    Default Free visits, Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland's free entry weekend is 1st and 2nd April 2006.

Go on, you know you want to visit a castle Besides, it's a huge saving. Normal adult entry to Stirling castle is £8.50 , multiply that up for a family and it's an expensive outing even if it is a great place.

    Cheers,

If a man is talking in the woods and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

It's ok,I'm a member of English Heritage and there are reciprocal free entry agreements with Historic Scotland I believe.

    It turned out great.

Hawick was having a "Border Reiver" festival this weekend.

The Clanranald trust were there doing their thing,as was a group called Saor Patrol.

    Magic stuff.

Ooh,thanks for the Saor link Toddy.I actually spent £10 on their CD.

I had the the other one already but Google didn't find Saor Patrol.

Yes they do seem to enjoy themselves.I know I did watching them.

And I actually learned a few things too.

    Now I'm worried
Knowing that bunch, and I do, what were they up to? I think they're doing Bannockburn and Lanark this year too; I'm supposed to be in Medieval kit running a stall this year, spinning, natural dyes, hides and skins, that sort of thing.....I'm still in two minds about the kit part

    All perfectly respectable.

They were showing how to kill and maim people using the weapons available to the ancient Scots.

Very informative as well as entertaining.

The kit looks good in that setting and really adds a touch of realism. One of my old friends is a Reiver;he walked up to me and was talking before I realised I knew him. I think is was the big blue bunnet that confused me.

I'm sure that you will have a great time with that bunch.
