    Default The knife handle material Encyclopedia (75+ pics)

    How it all started
    I got inspired to start this ‘Encyclopedia’ a few months ago, when I made up my ‘own’ design for a custom made knife. I trawled hours on end through countless threads on BCUK and on BB to decide what handle material – and later what kind of wood – I wanted on my knife.
    Now, the design is finished, the order given and the waiting (12 months) started – so a good opportunity to share the research I did with you guys. So you can save precious time and do some more bushcrafty things.

    Back over on BB I came across this thread
    which was of some good assistance. Especially the post made by Tvividr, who made a picture of his wood-stock . This picture is the base of the encyclopedia.

    Goal
    The Encyclopedia is meant as a picture database for your comfort. No technical chatter about what material is best, their pro’s and con’s, or about what should be the best edge – plenty of threads about that around, nor is this thread meant for a comparison between knives or their makers. Just pictures, nothing more – nothing less.

    If you have a (technical) question about a specific wood (or other knife handle material), feel free to start a new thread and fire it away! We’d love to help you out – under condition you show a pic of your knife when it’s finished though.

    With every pic I’ll try to give credit to the person who made the picture and / or knife. If you see a picture which is yours, with wrong info or you don’t want me to use your picture (you can check this with a click with your right mouse button and selecting the last option in the list) – please let me know by PM and I’ll change it, so you get the full credit you deserve.

    Disclaimer
    I do not have the intention of stealing (your) pictures, therefor I added (your) names or (partial) website addresses in the pictures namethis all is purely for informative and educational purposes, and has no commercial goal what so ever.

    New information?
    If you’ve found (additional information or) materials which aren’t (or not fully) covered in the Encyclopedia, please PM me, so I can add it.

    Online stores for your knife supplies:
    * Brisa

    * Traditional Materials

    I want to thank all of you who PM-ed me to say they liked the Encyclopedia, and to those of you who supplied me with more pics for this update
