Studs and stitching are spot on as are the belt loopd all very strong, the material gives in all the right places when bending down and they just seem to fit great when you stand up with no need to pull them up to hide the builder's bum , they feel like chinos weight wise and iv been walking around in them for a couple of days with no hotspots .Big pockets with dedicated phone pocket (now edc knife) . Worn by me a 20st male who suffers in jeans when worn on long walks but not these , all in all a nice cut jean type light and durable pair of trousers . Only knocking about in them next trip will be in the woods. Atb stewart. Ps no affiliate to company but sure that they have a website

Hello all,

I was considering buying one of the new US Navy Goretex Parkas. It's not the cheapest so before I buy the wrong size I thought I'd ask here. Are these jackets made particularly big? The large size states 41-45 chest size. I'm a 42 so this sounds about right however I know some of these military jackets can be made quite large. Would the large be ok here or would a medium be better? The height also seems to suggest that anything above 5'9" should be covered by the "long" version although I've never had to buy the "long" version of anything being only 5'11" so that again is an unknown.

If anyone has any experience of the sizings of these it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi folks,
i have an old westwinds cairngorm jacket. Recently i had to use it at work (tree surgery) and now it has become rather grubby. I'd love to clean it but the cleaning instructions say only to sponge it down with a damp cloth.
I don't reckon this will shift most the dirt it has aquired. So, any suggestions? hand wash with a wool detergent? cool wash in washer? etc
I know ventile can be easily damaged once wet, so i thought i'd ask the wealth of experience here (ie, John Fenna ;))
Cheers

Also got a wool shirt, and couldn't resist an unopened Individual Protection Kit (basically just a small tarp sheet with some pegs and cordage).

The shirt label says:
'FEC.S.A. 1985, Lana, Talla
Tratamento Antipolilla, MITIN'

Italian wool shirt? Can anyone enlighten me? It has velcro sealed chest pockets with buttons for extra security, and reinforcement at the elbows. It is, I should add, the scratchiest, most abrasive item of clothing I have ever worn, but it fits, and at £2 per item I wasn't arguing. For £6 the lot, I'm more than happy :)

Although it isin't quite the weather for it I am considering purchasing a wool poncho from sites such as these:
http://www.zocalo-trading.com/poncho/wool_ponchos.htm
http://www.alpacamall.com/en/ponchos-c-5643.html
They are 100% wool and appear to be of great quality. The issue is neither website has any reviews or testimonials which is quite worrying. I was wondering if you folks know anything about these two websties and their products or just wearing a poncho in general.

I will be frank however... I watched Fist full of dollars recently and went on a western movie spree. A genre I have otherwise completely ignored. Beyond looking pretty cool is there any reason to purchase a poncho?
I'm considering combining the poncho with a rainproof one for ultimate warmth in winter downpours. Furthermore I love my Italian wool blanket but it is too dam heavy and bulky so I rarely take it. Perhaps a poncho will be a better option? Also what weather are these appropriate for? Both websites stress traditional makes will this be suitable at any time of the year in the UK? Too hot in summer too cold in winter?
Thanks for reading.

Hello all,

I am looking to get a surplus goretex jacket as a lighter weight waterproof jacket now we are into warmer weather. I have had a bad experience with a used ECWCS jacket I purchased which leaked after 10 minutes in light rain. At £75 for what I was lead to believe was the "Rolls Royce" of military jackets has left me a little bit cautious.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get a surplus military goretex jacket that has been tested/ won't leak.

Thanks.
