What a fantastic weekend, I've just spent 4 days in the Welsh hills with a fantastic group of students doing their silver Duke of Edinburgh award practice expedition. Weather was good and a I got a few opportunities to stroll up a few peaks whilst waiting for them, campsites were remote and apart from the mental stress of running this sort of expedition it was quite a refreshing break.
We finished yesterday at Llangorse lakes and whilst the students were getting changed for the trip home a lady called me over to try and help her with her new campervan. We started talking and being the kit geek that I am I commented on her PHD top which led to her showing me other items of kit. One of her favourite items of equipment is her Terra Nova bivvi bag, as she can sleep anywhere she feels like. She then casually threw in that one particular item had kept her alive in -60C in Siberia. Throw away comment like that take a few minutes to sink and Rosie continued about how she had run around the world towing a trailer, I have to admit I was quite awe struck with the level of achievement that this lady had accomplished!
Rosie offered to give me a copy of her book to read and a contact number, she talked me through some of the photos in the book before I had to reluctantly leave as I had to had back to Southampton. Rosie was off to France to carry on running from Paris to Rome where she was going to receive a medal from the Italian Prime Minister!
I hope that I can meet up with Rosie again to continue our conversation as she really is the most amazing woman to talk to and I'm thoroughly looking forward to reading her book.
