Drinksafe-systems purified water filter systems contain multi stages of water processing technology; These include patented ABSOLUTE filtration for the life of the filter, with Environmental Protection Agency purification media pre purification and chemical absorbing media inbuilt into every system; Combined these are proven to exclude threat from pathogens, protozoa, schistomas, spores and viruses that are the causes of disease and sickness from untreated water sources – often the result of human and animal interference.Disease causes that may be found in untreated water.Causes of disease and sickness that might be found in freshwater include vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter , Salmonella, Shigella, and the diarrheogenic E-Coli , Cryptosporidium , giardia , bilhazia from parasitics in snails, weils‘ disease, Norwalk , and many others. Drinksafe-systems are the only portable systems to have been UK Govt laboratory tested for instant removal of Anthrax. User Review
When I first saw the Explorer canteen there was a part of me that thinking “is that it”? The bottle is made from a lightweight and flexible plastic with a removable neoprene case and a bulky lid containing the filter. The wide neck makes for easy filling from most water sources and it’s easy to remove the lid fully to avoid contamination. The plastic that the bottle is made from is flexible enough to enable you to squeeze water out rather than relying on gravity.
The drinking nozzle is similar to most “sports drinks” style bottles designed to be used on the go. Probably the only disappointment, and is really more of an irritation, is that the protection cap for the drinking nozzle is actually attached to the bottle and not the cap, this means that you can’t leave this in place whilst filling the bottle.
Flow rate is reasonable for a purifier although filling other containers would probably be slower than some of the larger pump based systems, but then that isn’t what the explorer canteen was designed for, if you were treating water for groups or more than one person Drinksafe do make other products with larger capacities. The bottle is advertised as a complete purification system and after talking to Giles, the owner of Drinksafe, the mechanisms of action is to pass the water through a convoluted maze designed to stop and shred any harmful pathogens whilst filtering chemicals. Taste from the flask is very good although I am careful to be fairly selective when choosing a source, despite the claims I just can’t bring myself to fill up from standing/slow moving water if a more appealing source is close by. Due to the nature of the filter there is no iodine/chlorine taste remaining which my wife appreciates after using iodine based treatment in Dartmoor recently.
1 litre is not a great deal when walking any distance and I’ve found I either need to fill up other bottles from the flask, fill up regularly or I might look at seeing if a spare bottle with a sealing lid is available so I can just transfer the filter between the flasks, rather than carrying the extra weight of additional filters – not that they’re heavy but when you’re gram counting…
Overview
An excellent and lightweight purification system that doesn’t rely on pumping and provides a reliable method of producing drinking water, downsides are capacity however Drinksafe produce other products, using a similar technology, that address this. I will update the review as I get more use out of the flask and get a better idea of the life span and durability.
