I love this stuff (I bet I'm not the only one), it turns a bland and uniteresting meal into something a lot more palatable, or masks the taste of stuff - less tasty. I read somewhere that is was a highly requested item for squaddies in Iraq. Problem is, it comes in a thunking great glass bottle. What do you guys use to carry such condements? Do you just lug the bottle along, or do you decant it into something lighter?

We have loads of US MREs about ... some of which come with a 5ml bottle of tabasco.

I think you can buy the small bottles direct from the company that makes it ... I'm sure i saw a link on another forum.

I managed to get my hands on an MRE, opened it up and..... no tabasco. I'd got a vege pack and they don't seem to contain them . I think that selfridges in the Trafford centre has packets of the mini bottles. If your willing to go there .

Found the link....

I'll have to keep a look out for them. Are the bottle glass or plastic? If they're plastic, might be worth getting a 6-pack and fillingvthe others with worcester sauce, garlic sauce etc..

I've bought MREs from Jasper over at http://www.strikeforcesupplies.co.uk/2.shtml ... if you know which you want, he can usually cut boxes to suit.

(I'm speaking as a happy customer and don't get a cut of the sales ... honest :0: )

Really? Cool! That size is more suited to the palette over here in the UK anyway.

I just like to buy something of the size that I'll get through in a sensible timescale ... I think we still have a 5 ml MRE bottle going nearly a year on!

I like it, just in very small doses!

MRE stands for `Meals Ready to Eat`.
They are from the millitary where you can eat them cold or hot as they dont require the addition of water.

dont get upset.but i have to laugh at the vegetarian option...here are soldier rations for guys trained to be tough and possibly kill ,and they give them a vegetarian option? why? so that it will save the cows? just dosent seem to figure. anyway that said im sure they are full of protein and delicious.are they worth the dough? really? perhaps i.ll try some .
obviously no offence to any vetarians out there :-D

People work better when given what they like/want. Variety is a good thing ... it's very hard to eat the same thing day in day out for weeks.

I think that the British Army vegetarian rations are odd though ... they contain such vegetarian delights as "baked beans with vegetarian sausages". So, while being vegetarian, they are nearly all "meat-style".

Not everyone who eats the vegetarian option meals is a vegetarian to save the little animals. Some refrain from certain meat for religous reasons... some for healthy living (not wanting all that chemical gak in their bodies)... others have medical/dietary considerations... so with all this, its a good idea to offer a vergetarian subsitute....... kepps everyone happy :-)

Good points ... add to that the fact that meat can make some feel very sluggish too.

Whether you get the meal you want is another matter though!
