View Full Version : Sussex Bushcraft group meet for SEPTEMBER: 28th to the 30th
We had a fun but small meet this time round as lots of people were away etc.. Had a great time & booked up next months meet while we were there. After September there will be fewer people around as things quieten down over the winter. We have booked pitch D13 again, so please park in the Ranger car park (not the main one by reception - see map or ask if unsure). Big thanks to Richard for bringing my Tarp, kettle & grill after picking them up from Jack.
I have the parachute & will bring it along next time; PM me if you need it earlier. I also have Bill's folding poles x2, which I have put in with the parachute as well.
The usual rules & regs are here:
Location of the Campsite & details of the Venue
Broadstone Warren is a Scout site situated in the Ashdown Forest in the North of Sussex, midway between the South Coast and London. The site which is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) comprises 386 acres of the Ashdown Forest with campsites situated throughout the woodland in many of the glades.
How to get there
http://www.broadstonewarren.org.uk/find_us/
By Road
From the M25 - Leave the M25 at junction 8 following the M23 southbound towards Brighton. Leave the M23 at junction 10, and take the first exit on the roundabout along the A264 towards East Grinstead. When you get into East Grinstead, follow the A22 southbound towards Eastbourne. Remain on the A22, straight through Forest Row. Broadstone Warren is on the left-hand side approximately 2 miles south of Forest Row.
From the South - Follow the A22 northbound crossing the crossroads at Wych Cross (just after the Roebuck Hotel). The main entrance is approximately 500 metres after the junction on the right-hand side.
SAT-NAV - If using Sat-Nav, the postcode for the site is RH18 5JS. As you get close to the site, you need to look out for the signs as the same postcode is used for a number of local properties.
By Rail: The nearest train station is at East Grinstead, which is approximately a fifty minute train journey from London Victoria. When arriving at East Grinstead Broadstone Warren is a bus journey or ten minute taxi ride away.
By Bus: Bus services pass Broadstone Warren from East Grinstead, Uckfield and Haywards Heath.
Times & Car Parking
You can stay the Friday night if you want, although the main meet starts on Saturday Morning & normally goes to mid/late afternoon on the Sunday. When you arrive on site you can drive to the pitch to unload but then please put your car back in the main car park; unless we have a pitch near the Ranger's car park at the end of the main dirt road in which case use that.
Fees
We have managed to get the discounted day rate of £4.92. Please note that this is charged on a 24 hour baises , so if you arrive on the Saturday & leave on the Sunday after being there for more than 24 hours then you need to pay for 2 days. Sorry but that is their rules. They like the organiser to collect all the fees & pay the bill, which I normally do.
Pitch: D13
What we do at the meets
This is an opportunity to meet some local(ish) Bushcrafters, camp out with like minded people & practice/learn some skills. We have had a handful of these meets before, some at other venues, but they mostly follow the same pattern. We tend to do as much or as little as you want but try to have a few sessions where anyone can take part if they want; these are usally things like different ways to make fires, carving, tree id etc.. We cook on the shared fire, often having a communal meal & have tea on the go all the time. We have a few beers round the campfire in the evening but tend not to stay up too much past midninght as others are ofetn asleep by then & we tend to get up early when you wake up in the woods, usually round 7 (although some sleep on for a bit).
The other important stuff
WATER: Standpipes are located at various points around the site.
FIREWOOD: There is ample wood for burning lying around the forest. Under NO circumstances is live wood to be cut or damaged. Chain saws are NOT permitted on the site. (NOTE: I have not yet verified the availability of wood, so if you have access to any, it may be worth bringing some wood or charcoal with you)
PITS: Due to the nature of the ground on site NO pits of any type may be dug.
VEHICLES: NO vehicles are to be driven onto the campsites or parked on the rides other than with the Duty Manager’s permission. On arrival you may be allowed to unload your equipment at your site after which you must park your vehicle in the car park allocated. At the end of your stay, after receiving the Duty Manager’s permission, you will be allowed to take your vehicle to your site to load up your equipment.
CYCLES: To comply with the Forestry Commissions Laws and Natural England, cycles are NOT permitted on the site.
DOGS: NO pets of any description are allowed on site. Sorry but that is the site rules.
NOISE / NUISANCE: As the consideration for other users is paramount, music players, radios and the like must not be audible off your own site. Noise must be kept to a minimum between 11pm and 7.30am. Unacceptable behaviour by any users on site will not be tolerated. Unacceptable behaviour includes: Bad language that causes others to be seriously offend; Trespassing; Vandalism; Consumption of alcohol by minors/excessive consumption by adults; Illegal substance use; Setting fires (with the intent to cause damage); Acting in a way that may cause danger to self or others; Verbal, Emotional, Physical or Sexual Abuse etc...
SECURITY: In the interest of security we would recommend that you do not leave any valuables in tents or buildings.
RUBBISH: Recycling facilities for glass, cans and tins are located at Camp Centre. Please clean all glassware, cans and tins before disposal. All combustible rubbish, where practicable should be burned. All other rubbish should be brought to camp centre and placed in the bins provided, or taken home for disposal.
FIRE: Fire is to stay within the main fireplace, unless people are being taught how to make fire under appopriate adult supervision. This is mainly aimed at kids, as we need to be careful where embers land away from the main fire for obvious reasons. This excludes personal hobos, gas cookers etc.. which are the owners responsability when operating.
Brining Guests: If you bring a guest to a meet or invite them then you are responsible for them until they become an established member of the group, which will be after 2 visits. We have been asked to add this rule in by BCUK. This especially applies to bringing other peoples children. The person who brings the children to the meets are responsible for them & their safety.
* Forum members are responsible for themselves, the kit they use and their own actions (and any non member accompanying them) at the Meet.
* Under 18's must be accompanied by at least one parent (or appointed guardian).
* In the highly unlikely event that I need to make use of this ... I reserve the right to stop any individual(s) from attending a Meet. Any individual(s) who I feel endanger our future use of the site will be required to leave the site; outstanding fees will still be owed. This also applies if the site staff have problems with an indevidual. Nothing like this has ever happened but we need to have the standard disclaimer, like those found at other meets.
Hope to see you round the campfire soon

There you go mate.
I am waiting to see if I will be up to it which I hope I will.
I might camp the Friday night but have work on Saturday & Sunday afternoon/evenings so will have to leave fairly promptly in the morning.
Won't be cold, Simon, got underquilt & winter bag (plus trusty tea-blanket!)
Cheers Hugo, Spandit you'd be cold in a sweat lodge! See you in a few weeks.
Simon is giving up smoking next week so we can all give him grief at the meet when he's shaking from nicotine withdrawal...
I am a cold sleeper, yes, but sure I'll be warm enough next time...
Go on, give me some grief when I'm off the roll ups, I dare you....
Go on, give me some grief when I'm off the roll ups, I dare you....
if you are selling tickets for this, i'll have a couple of ring side ones please:)
Good luck with it Simon, i gave the smokes up fours years ago now and have never looked back

i will try and come to this one guys, will let u all know soon
We're not sure yet Fledgling 1 hits the big One-Oh that weekend.
@Simon when are you stopping? I haven't quit this month yet. Did it 15 times at Christmas.
Go on, give me some grief when I'm off the roll ups, I dare you....
Bring it on, beardy boy... :D
I'm stopping at midnight, on my birthday, next Tuesday. Have tried numerous times before but I know this will be the one....
I'm a pussycat really, honest!
I stopped about a month ago & started doing more exercise: a small jog each morning, going for a walk each evening etc.. Has worked for me so far
Looks like I may be off to Canada during the next meet, as I have a date for a couple of weeks canoeing down the French River. Got an unexpected tax rebate & work wanted me to take time off, so it had to be done.
I may have to hook up with one of the regulars to give them the parachute as I took it home after the last meet.
Who you going with, think RICO is off that way too. I'm off to Vancouver in 2 weeks to go cannoeing myself.
I am doing the same trip that Rico is doing, down the french river for 8 days with bits at each end
Well I have bought the trip so I am going to Canada, which means I wont be able to go to the next meet on the last weekend of september as I will be deep in Bear country by then...
12300
So I need to hand the parachute to someone before I go. Forest Row is doable at a pinch, as I work in Horsham so is 30 mins from there, if Simon can take it. Or I could drop it off at Jacks' or at Robin's as I am up that way on Tuesdays & Wednesday's in Horsham. Or I can keep hold of it till the next meet. Let us know what you think?
I also need someone to run the meet & collect the money at the end if one of the regulars can do that. PM me if you can help with that.
We just confirmed yesterday we won't make the September meet, so can't help out on either front I'm afraid.
Can help with 'chute (bringing only) but can't take it back or do the money. PM sent
Cheers Robin, that is a help. PM me when you are around & I can drop it over to you. Best days for me are wednesdays. It would good to have a peek at your famous Pinz while I am over that way. Dave
I'm around most of tomorrow but working in the evening
I am going to Canada, so wont make the next meet or the Bentley wood fair.
I still need someone to collect the fees & be responsible adult for the weekend. We also have a couple of new members who want to come along, FedUpFrog & his mate who lives in Forest Row. I willPM some regulars to see if they can help.
Parachute will land at Robin's next wednesday..... I'll get my coat....

Not sure I'll be there as I'm also off to Canada on a canoe trip (different one). I will only have been back a couple of days, so might be pushing my luck to go off into the woods again.
This is looking in jeopardy for me too now. Will confirm or not nearer the date.

Thats alright, i can tell you about my time in Norway, Finland & Sweden or my time in Ethiopia, South Africa, The Sahara.............:):p
Well I'll chip in with my Egyptian eve of the revolution trip and skiing in Serbia over land mines before they closed the piste. And a rather uneventful trip to Florence. :)
i'll see your Serbia trip and raise you counting the bullet holes in the hotel wall in Croatia:)
I went to Hull once, do I win?
Nobody wins going to Hull.

Here's one for the group to think over. Paul Kirtley, chief instructor at Frontier bushcraft, popped by at the end of one of our meets to say hi. On reading his blog, it would seem he's done a couple of BCUK group days and i wondered if enough of the group would be interested in doing something similar http://frontierbushcraft.com/2012/05/16/rough-close-bushcraftuk-meet-paul-kirtley/
RICO and I have done a few courses with him, which we've both enjoyed and it seems Neumo is off to Canada with him too. Anyway, if people are interested, I'll see if we can't organise something.
Maybe. Depends on the content. e.g. I assume we would not be doing things like bow-drill and spoon carving since we do those all the time.

I think we would decide the content up front.
Depending when you wanted to do it, Neil and myself can do stuff with you for free. We should be able to make the meets from November, we may be able to do October it's hard to say at the moment. What did you have in mind? Simon spoke to us earlier in the year about doing a deer carcass, and group meal. Plus the other things you can use the remainder of the animal for.
Give us a shout if you are interested.
Luke

I'd like to skin a rabbit but I'd have a go at a deer

Same here:)
Cool guys. It would be good to learn more things. As much as I enjoy chatting round the fire, I would also love to learn more. Butchery is definitely something I would like to do.
Perhaps we should put a wish list together and see who could help out and when they are available. I think it would be nice if we kept things to a couple of hours tops as I wouldn't want to impose too much on such generous offers from you guys. And then I think it would be a nice gesture if we then catered for our instructors.

should be along too:)
Yes, this is good & lines up with how I personally would like to see happen at our meets develop. While we have had many good meets where we sit round the fire drinking tea & chatting for most of the weekend I have been thinking that it would be good if we did more over the weekend. So some kind of events, like a tracking session at 10am or whatever would be good. Sort of like the skill sessions that you have at the Moot, Wilderness Gathering etc.. where one of us can arrange/teach a simplish skill like map reading to follow a bearing, following a deer trail for as far as we can etc.. I like the way this is going & if we can all have a think what we would like to do for the October meet (when us jet setters are back from Canada) then that would be good thing, I think.
With regard to inviting Paul for a Sussex meet, probably going to upset the apple cart but, in the past we have been offered free tuition from well respected people, people like Neil and his mate Lee, simon and his partner Iona also Mark.
These offers were sometimes taken up, I remember a great time with Neil and Lee making us all a venison stew, along with a tracking course tutorial around the fire under Neil's parachute, I personally had a great time that weekend, and on quite a few occasions doing fire by friction with Mark and also Neil, and following on behind Lee tracking deer, Mushroom and other fungi with Iona I missed as I was busy doing something else probably carving something, but quite often what happens is some people get up a bit too late and the momentum goes out of doing Bushcraft stuff.
Now is there really a need for inviting someone new along to teach us a few things, I personally do not, I have looked at quite a few threads where Paul is mentioned and have a high respect for him knowing that he is shall we say a grand fella who knows his stuff, people who have had tuition from him regard him highly, and let it be known.
That's my view on things, by the way, most of you who are regulars know that I am usually very lethargic, I'm still working on that, so yes I don't do as much as I should, or would like to do.
One other point I would like to mention about our meetings is, it has not been as busy since the two occasions one after the other when somebody new, on each occasion, had been a bit loud, and very loud after having had far too much alcohol,
not much was said about it but it does ruin a good weekend.
What do you guys think about alcohol and sharps together around a camp fire, I for one think everything in moderation as sometimes the banter goes far too far and personal when people drink to excess.
See you there guys.
Regards/ respect
Feel free to tell me to wind my neck in if I'm pushing too much, but I've set up a separate thread for people to put down things they'd like to learn at the meets.

You push away Jack, im all for doing things at meets, everyone, and i do mean everyone, has something to offer, it might be the most basic of things, but we all had to learn the basics at some point.
Before you say, you cant teach anything, wrong, you taught me about teaching a left hander, i still use that trick you showed me to this day and it works a treat - cheers mate.

+1 the great thing about meets/moots is the the two-way peer to peer nature of it.
@ Hugo
I can't remember where it's from (the Bushmoot I think) but there's a line "when the beers come out the sharps go away". That seems sensible to me.
@Jack
Items added on other thread.

Well said:)
What do you guys think about alcohol and sharps together around a camp fire.
Alcohol and sharps dont mix, as Swallow quite rightly says, when the booze comes out, the sharps go away, can i also add, that sharps when not being used, also need to be sheathed or masked and put away, not just left laying on the ground, and if people want to use someone elses tools - ASK, dont just assume it's going to be ok, it's not, it took me ages to get the damage on one of my Orfords repaired after one meet, where someone decided they would just help themselves to MY tools, this is despite the fact they were in a closed and buckled down leather pouch.
I too have had to sort out damage to a cutting tool someone abused, in my case it was a knife. Kepis is right any cutting tool should be stored correctly when not in use. A common error I observed at the 2 meets I have been to, were bow saws lying in ambush by the wood pile.
Hugo my names Luke not Lee, don't worry I have been called far worse!
Looking forward to getting out at Broadstone, hopefully next month.

Beer and when it's dark is when sharps should go away IMO.
I'm up for any tutorials, but find that when I bring the brats I have no time for anyone until it's dark. Oh the joys of it. (When I'm not looking after Spanders and Jack the children take up a lot of time too :lmao:)
Oi!
Oh, wait, fair play.
There's a slim chance I could be there in September. I've been given my pass, just got to see if I've got the energy.
Hiya I am not a member and only joined this forum about a week ago but could I come along? Hiking and bush craft is something that I have enjoyed for the last few years and I have now joined this forum to try and learn more and meet more like minded people.
You don't need to be member mate, just get your self to Broadstone and remember that on the first trip you are expected to keep us all in tea and biscuits.
lol tea and biscuits sure :) I should just turn up then?
Should I bring my comfy stuff like a tent and a kettle or my light weight stuff so I can carry it for miles?
You can drop stuff off at the pitch by car. Water is piped in so no need to carry as much ;)
It's a fiver a night, sleep in / under what you like. Plenty of trees to hang from and clearing to dwell on. Just add your name to the list.
A kettle is a good idea, especially if Hugo is going.
Thanks very much, I will check with the wife on the dates as I never know what is going on!
Dear All,
Dunno whether or not I am working the Sat yet hence my pensiveness. Did we ever bottom out the kettle? Do you want me to buy a kettle and we can chip in when we see each other. Some of you can pay me at the same time you pay for the chute ;)
Riich83, you are most welcome to attend.
On arriving at Broadstone call into the office and ask where BCUK members are, they should put you in the right direction.
And Go heavy, tent and all that entails comfort.

Be good to meet you, Rich. Bring plenty of warm stuff & sharp things. Most importantly, bring a chair and a sense of humour. Most of us know each other quite well so the banter flows quite freely which can be a little off putting for newcomers but we're a nice bunch on the whole!

YES,Looks like I may be returning to the group, having not attended since last September, due to health problems.Running now at about 75%.Anemia has been cleared having been on iron tabs,The breathlessness is caused by a genetic condition called Alpha 1 Anti Trypsin Definciency which has caused me to have emphysema, this I was diagonosed with last month, and it now appears that I have chronic fatigue syndrome according to my gp last week,so that clears up why I have no energy, and why I am always feeling exhausted.
At least now the medical guys know what they are dealing with and I can improve.
So hopefully will be adding my name to the list later this month.
Glad you are getting on the mend Graywolf mate, be good to see you at the meet again.
Fatigue! tell me about it, tis a right bu**er as I have it, apart from that things are good for me.

...and don't worry about it too much when Spandit talks about how attractive his cousin was.
Which cousin was that?
Did we ever bottom out the kettle?
I think we should get one of these 5 Litre 'Kirtley Kettles':
http://www.greenmanbushcraft.co.uk/o...le-5-litre.htm (http://www.greenmanbushcraft.co.uk/outdoor-kitchen/kirtley-camp-kettle-5-litre.htm)
Or maybe even the 7L one. They are a bit expensive but they are well made, so if we did another Group Buy again then it would only be a few quid each. Having a decent kettle on the go all the time is at the heart of a good camp, as you never know when you will need a good cup of tea.
Which cousin was that?
The one you thought was attractive UNTIL she got married.
Be good to see Graywolf back and hopefully on the road to good health again.
But it does take me back to a conversation Wildbill and I were having about our collective medical conditions and people being aware if anyone is taken ill. Now I'm not suggesting that we have to do manditory medical forms or have trained first aiders on hand. But I wouldn't want anyone to more unwell because we didn't know how to help them or who to contact.
So I think I'm going to make myself a medical card that I'll encapsulate and affix to my bergan just in case as I doubt many of you know I'm asthmatic or where I store my inhalers.
I have the blue card in my wallet Jack stating what meds I take and must have if in trouble.
You can ask at your pharmacist about carrying a blue card for emergencies, no charge for them.
Neumo about the big kettle, I have a round piece of cast iron that an ordinary kettle could sit on whilst on the camp fire, it's about ten inches across, when it heats up it should be good as there would be no burning of the kettle handle.
In my opinion a large kettle is not so good as it takes a long time to heat it up and it can be heavy for some people, also not many people actually have a hot drink together in one go, as RM has said in the past (less is more). my opinion only mind, as I have a billy can.
DarkHorseDave's kettle was on permanent duty the first time he bought it - it's a 3.5L one. Far better than the Kirtley kettles, insomuch that it's stainless and whistles but they're like hen's teeth in this country
Actually Robin I could have had two of the hens teeth over the weekend.
At my local boot market I could have had one identical to Dave's and one that was a dead ringer to the one Neumo wants, it was very old school, I did not buy them as I don't want to lug too much gear around, having a group buy for stuff can get to a point where a trailer is needed to cart it around, and storing it is another bugbear.
What a pity - I would have had one of those off you! Couldn't go to my local boot fair as daughter was asleep and we missed it

Thanks Hugo, I'll do that and keep it to hand. Also good to know that you've got one.
My first aid training is a bit dated and was skewed towards being a lifeguard. Mind you, the last meet I was at drowning was a distinct possibility!
Hugo, I've NEVER seen you use a billy for water but seen you use one of the kettles umpteen times ;)
I'm up for a GB one. A 5 ltr is a good size and can just be left on the boil. It doesn't have full all of the time.
I'm sick of filling up my 2 person kettle, putting it on to boil and then finding that a short time later other people have taken the water and not bothered to fill it again!
I'm sick of filling up my 2 person kettle, putting it on to boil and then finding that a short time later other people have taken the water and not bothered to fill it again!
Thats the problem isnt it?, the same thing happened on more than one occasion with my big kettle, i would fill it up, put it on to boil then when i went to use it, find it was empty and nobody had bothered to go fill it up again, despite there being full or nearly full water containers nearby, usually yours, Simons or mine, one occassion, the thing nearly boiled dry, as nobody had filled it up after using it, but had conveniently left it over the fire, if it had got knackered it would of course then been "my kettle" and "I" would have been left with the bill to replace it.

Neil and myself hold current first aid qualifications, and when I'm there my first aid kit is very comprehensive. You are right though, the group should be aware of any known medical condition/needs. Hope to be out soon.

Same here .
Cool guys, I was just concerned for when first aiders aren't always there and additional info on people's medical history could mean the right treatment quicker than having to wait on results. Hugo's blue card thing is something I will do and let you guys know about incase I have an attack. Like a donor card, it's no use if people don't know you've got one. I think it's worth carrying every day, so will go into my wallet.

My big kettle is made by Zebra of billy can fame by the way, it that helps in the search for another.
It will be used this very weekend in fact at a locally organised dads 'n' lads camping weekend (though I do understand Hugo's point about lugging loads of gear around!)
I'm doing a first aid qualification tomorrow & next Wednesday too, to bring my rusty skills up-to-date.
I'm at work so can see ebay, but Zebra Kettle is pulling up ebay results when typed into Google. No Google shopping results though.
On the FAK kit front I haven't noticed anyone carrying one (though they might well be carrying one in a pocket or non-descript pouch) and I thought that having a FAK in proximity to your sharps was a "Cardinal Rule".
On the kettle front. Ours melted the plastic handle & whistler. When I've modded that I'll continue bringing it along, but I'm also up for a GB if the buy is for Stainless.
I get the idea that a bigger kettle also has a downside, surely that needs topped up with the same regularity as a small one? Otherwise there will be a big re-fill and it will take ages to boil. Swings and Roundabouts though.

Just on that point, my standard practice is to have on me a 'cuts kit' at all times (ie pocket sized aloksak with plasters, steri-strips, wipes etc), with a more comprehensive kit in the side pocket of my pack. I think (hope!) that's what most folks do!
I'm a qualified first aider too, normally with a small kit in my pocket/on my belt at meets and a bigger one in my pack.
A group buy on a kettle would be good, I'd be happy to put in, maybe we should have a group training session on keeping them full too....

Do we have anyone qualified to run it?...:)
How observant you are Simon mate.
Even though Im not a tea drinker, I'll chip in for a big kettle as the hot water is good for cleaning stuff after cooking.
I'd be really up for attending a first aid course, I did one when I was a Coast Guard but that was a couple of years ago now and didn't really deal with cuts more falls, drowning and maiming by motorboat!

I've just finished a 3 part paediatric emergency first aid course today, too. Looks like there will be plenty of ppl with first aid skills.
Only just noticed this post Widu mate. I love you too you nice chap you, you can use my billy can any time you want, just top it up if it is low, billy cans are like wine glasses, they can be half full or half empty, I prefer the half full ones.
Looking forward to the meet, hope I remember to take a sleeping bag this time.

Jackcbr: I can take it home, but will be off late morning Sunday so will need to have it down by then
I may well be covering Forge Wood next weekend so might not be able to attend, but I will try and pop in at some point to drop off Bill's new sheath. Will know for definite later in the week.
If you need a lift from home just ask mate.
Hugo, you're very kind as ever, and I may well take you up on that offer. I'll give you a shout later in the week, cheers mate.
Hi Si, if I make it I'll be in the beast. Heading over from work at about 4 on Friday and heading home before lunch Sunday if you need a lift.
I've just got a Golf yesterday as a present from my wife, will that be OK on the camp site or will it be too low?
My Aston Martin gets in OK... ;)
You can't drive right up to the site, but ty carpark and main tracks are fine...

Thanks Jack, I'll let you know mate.
Hello can i ask a couple of questions? do have any space for this weekend? would you mind a couple of strangers joining you? (I say strangers, but i am sure we will recognise faces if anyone has been at the bushmoot over the last few years) we are both members of BCUK but dont go on the forums much.
Should be plenty of space. Looking forward to seeing you, unless I've gone already!
Thank you. I am Paul by the way. I will be down Saturday morning and my freind (also called Paul) will be down Lunchtime Saturday.

I wont be around this weekend after all. I had a minor opp on my back yesterday, all went well and I feel fine but I've been told I cant come out to play. Have a good weekend all.
I've got some tent poles of yours, Bill. Is there anyone I can give them to or shall I hold onto them for now?
Not 100% sure I can make it now...

Those poles can stay with the chute. They come in handy for making a doorway.

Hope you're ok mate and back to fighting fit soon.
I'm not going to be able to make this one now as I am covering Forge Wood on Saturday and am still carless. Thanks to Hugo and Jack for the kind offers of lifts though. See you all in October.
That's a shame, Simon but glad it's for the right reasons

Just to update the list. Also is anyone taking care of collecting the money and paying the site as Neumo isn't here this time?

Jackcbr: sorry guys, not feeling well. think I caught something on the flight from the guy next to me who hasn't heard of a thing called tissues! And I had Canadian treats to share too.
To all the new guys, sorry I won't be there to meet you all, but have a great time and hopefully see you all in October.
Not looking like a great turn-out. I'll bring the 'chute but might not be worth putting it up. I'm ordering some new rope for it - 30m of 10mm polyprop - should be strong enough?
Rope ordered but doubt it will arrive by tomorrow
Change of plans! Can't now make Sat will come for Fri night and leave Sat before lunch.

Hope you're having fun guys. Gutted can't attend this weekend.
It's pretty chilly...
it could be 90F in the shade and you would still find it chilly:lmao:
What's that in real money? It was +30c during the day and -5c at night whilst we were in Canada and Suzy coped (just). But she did have me to cuddle up to in the tent.
Couple of the guys built debris shelters one night and camped out in them, no sleeping bags just the clothes they were in. Mind you it was a little warmer that night, but quite windy.
Nice to see some new faces at the meet this month, thanks for coming guys.
thank you for making us welcome. i have your paracord taut line - found it holding 2 trees apart.

OMG, you didn't take the line down did you. All those trees with nothing to hold them up. Think of the trees, won't someone think of the trees.

I'm thinking of the trees but only getting wood?
As always I have forgotten something. If you would like to keep it you can mate, I checked double checked but forgot to look up and check.

Dont worry Hugo, I have to write myself a list to check things off against. My problem is I tend to lose the list.
I hope someone has my chair!
my chair now;)
That's a one of a kind custom chair! Is it stashed up a tree at Broadstone now?

You never remember your own, Spandit's never going to see it again. :lmao:
I'm impressed it held together - it was lashed up with £shop utility cord
I can't remember how much the chair cost, Jack, is it really that important?
(sobs slowly in the corner) no, not really, just wanted to belong...
...you meanie
Is there an October meet?
I am back from Canada after a great time. We need to arrange for a date for the October meet. How do people feel about the 24/25th of October? I can see if we can get D1 again. Let us know what you think & we can get it booked up.
24th & 25th are a Wednesday & Thursday?
27/28 then is it. D1 sounds good.
Can't make it, unfortunately
My weekends are free again now so I can make that date, or any others if it helps. Be good to see you all again.
Might pop over on the Sunday, im working on the Saturday
I can get over for that one. Friday to Sunday, could do with a bit of green time, not been a good week.
Ive just set up a thread for the October meet rather than keep adding to the September meet thread
