Looking good Wheres Adam ?

Up the stables I bet

Ivan...
21-06-2012, 06:02
Well as we can see this little soiree is coming together nicely, i think Adam is cogitating (up the stables) i will nudge him for a response , sad news that Rick has got a wife thingy and that she insists on having her fourth decade celebration on that weekend (selfish woman )

Fortunately nearly all other Jolly Boys (and girls) have sworn their allegiance to the cause, with just a couple of undecided.Oh just going back to the Rick thing i have it on good authority that he returned to work early after the sex change op , (light duties you understand) and that within an hour his arm fell off! Get well soon mate .

Newman as ever (class clown) has decided in his wisdom to attend by using the proper channels , after threatening to gate crash , he foolishly thinks he has got out of car parking duty , silly man !

Anyway as there is a little confusion as to my own well being , my blood/tic juice levels are now stabilising somewhat , thankyou , i have drunk so much orange juice i am now continually farting sunshine ! And contrary to popular belief you cannot catch Lymes from a toilet seat , kissing me or indeed sat around a camp fire with me , and although a very kind offer Richie (to play with my diseased body ) I will abstain.

Steve , have you officially changed your name to GTF ? any way just so as you understand the above statement , Arthur Daley , your dogs got tuts and another gay man !

Might not be able to make this one. Have a barn sale to go to. Not sure if it's the Saturday or the Sunday though, so might be able to come for the Friday-Saturday, or maybe Sunday-Monday, if anyone else is stopping out for the Monday. Will have to check and let you know.

Ah! a new victim , sorry member welcome aboard sandsnakes , hope you like laughing because we are a bit good at that !

Hi Adam , you know me pal , and no doubt a couple of the others will stay on til the Monday , that might even Rick could get a pass out .

Mr Newman , if you continue to cast nasturtiums and slate my previously untarnished character ,you sir will face ridicule of the highest order , lager and lyme indeed, and as for that reprobate Arry ,i am concocting personal insults as i type .

Did Adam mean "Stable sale"? Sort it out Mr.Savage; or a letter from your mother explaining your abscence!

I think Rick is making up stories about his wifes birthday; I'll check the lunar calendar as I think it may be a full moon!

I'll be bringing two inflatable canoes and some fishing gear along with a 12 bore to sort out those pesky sand fleas.

Hi Ivan,

Me plus one guest please, can you pm with the grid/post code etc will be good to see every one again.

Ivan...
22-06-2012, 07:22
Good morning campers , well as you know numbers were limited ,so thats it folks ,apart from a couple of shy ones that have contacted me by PM , we have reached our numbers , if anyone has to drop out for any reason please let me know as soon as possible , thankyou .

I will go about putting together exact location and other details and Pm everybody on the list so please excuse me if they seem a little impersonal , you know me and computer skills !

Now , parking is a bit limited but if we arrive either early or late in the day (before the grocks and dog walkers it won't be a problem ) From where we park it is about a mile gentle walk to the site ,beach or coastal path tide dependant.

Fuel on the beach is sparse , but if we all go on a forage within half a mile it is plentiful, also there are two canoes coming so anyone who fancys bringing a bag of logs/ kindling it would be appreciated . When the tide is in its easy transporting .

It is best for ground dwellers , but those who wish to hang there are options although they are limited .

So as we don't end up with loads of certain food items , if we all chuck a fiver in the kitty , then send a gopher (Newman) to the supply shop with a list we should be fine , but suggest you all bring ratpacks snacks etc for inbetween meals etc.

The actual location of the site is tricky to find so you will be sent details of the nearest pub (about a mile from beach) so communication is very important , some have been before so we will ensure nobody goes missing in action! Mobile phone reception on all networks is very limited .

It is a stunning place and i know we will have a great time , great foraging, swimming, canoeing etc.

Any questions fire away .

Hi , right i have been in regular contact with my personal assistant (Newman) and she has put a comprehensive set of directions and details , which i will endeavour to pass on to you all via PM (hopefully she will do it for me , when she has calmed down a bit )

Sorry Stuart, forgot to say hello properly mate be really good to see you again and looking forward to meeting your plus one .

Dave53 ever the professional , hopefully wont need your new device where we are going !

Steve let me know timings re the Totnes thing , is it a weekend pass or just day release ?

Richie will you be bringing a trailer ? And let me know about the Thursday as the green man might just turn up early too , because it would make sense to convoy rubber duck and we can secure all the best parking , anyone else thinking about coming earlier please let me know.

Anyone heard from Lucy ? as i have lost her mobile number ?

Last year we found it easiest to meet in the local pub , and i don't mind sitting there all day to meet and greet ! Because the actual site is a little tricky to find , but with Icky's comprehensive instructions should be a doddle.

Skate a public apology for the suggestive texts ! i have now moved your number so as it wont happen again , thanks very much for the offer ,if i ever consider batting for the other team you will be the first to know !

Finally who keeps ringing me , thinking i live in a lighthouse ? and asking if the coast is clear ?

As ever any queries just ask .

I am imposing my Celtic charms on you for the whole weekend

"Richie will you be bringing a trailer ?"
So the lightweight thing didn't catch on then? Ha a brave effort though mate
Sorry I cant drink all the way down in the car with you but I will be very happy to join you for the return journey if possible

Ivan...
02-07-2012, 11:06
Morning ! Bin a bit quiet here , anyway Steve (GTF) I do still have your mobile , I presume you have mine? Anyway between us contact will be made re picking you up from Totnes or Dartington on the Friday afternoon which is not a problem (probably one of Icky's many tasks).

Icky taken over the keyboard now, the pain of watching him type was excruciating. We've been up on the moor for a few days, I think I've killed him off. Right now he looks like death but I'm sure he's just being a drama-queen.

The distance from the parking spot to the beach/campsite is about half a mile. At low tide that's a walk along the shoreline but at high tide it's a gentle scramble along the coast path. It's high tide at roughly midday whilst we are there, so low tide at about 7 morning and evening. Hanging really isn't very practical, the wood is back near the parking, so going to bed would be interesting - in the dark and after a beer or two.

Richie, can you confirm by which day you plan to arrive and that you'll be bringing HMS Buchephelas and her sister ship?

That's it for now - looking forward to it.

Back on my own keyboard now.

After three nights staying at Ivan's Tick Farm I'm now back home. When I left him he looked like something a fox had regurgitated - not a pretty sight. Nothing to do with the Lyme's this time but a tummy bug that we both picked up. So for those few, those very few, who are concerned about him - don't be.

One thing we forgot to mention in the earlier post is the firewood situation. There is next to zero immediately available. When Ivan (pass me the Imodium) can spare us some of his valuable time and wrench himself away from the dunny I'm sure he'll want to say a few words of wisdom on this subject. Rear Admiral Richie seems to be hatching some plan to re-enact the Battle of the River Plate. Told me he'd tried doing it in the bath but there wasn't enough room for manoeuvers. So before his Grand Fleet gets sunk at their moorings by Lt Cmdr 'Stagger' Savage VD & scar and his crack team of frogmen (cunningly armed with explosive water wings), we can use it to transport firewood.

Gettie fu:censored:!

Your not burning my fleet. :aargh4:

Anyway, apologies for my absence but I've been busy having my pockets emptied by numerous professional ladies whilst walking "Las Ramblas" at night with 3 gay Irish lads and a swettie! (Sounds like the beginnings of a joke but unfortunately it isn't), then returned home to find my moggy as stiff as a board on the kitchen floor and having to explain to the kids that he wasn't really having a nap! Then onto some Welsh lakes to canoe 300 goby kids around in a circle all day whilst practicing all those Spanish expletives I learnt earlier in the week.

Anyway, I hope to be there Thursday but am still trying to wriggle out of photographing a school load of 10 year olds; assuming I win that battle I'll be down for late afternoon.
I was going to drag down two Mad River canoes on the roof but I'll now bring two inflatables which I can throw in the boot to make life easier. With the guest list as it is there's enough wind bags to inflate them both in seconds! I was a little worried about Ivan ability to "acquire" equipment and a 14 foot canoe in his pocket would raise few suspicions.

Thanks for the PM with detailed instructions. I didn't quite unerstand all those longs and lat things with all those numbers so I went and bought a Garmin GPS to make sense of it all.

See y'all soon.

G...g...g...g...garmin. No wait...wrong product.

So with Richie's rigid floaters in dry dock, we'll need to find another source of wood. Hmmmm

I'm sure there are plenty more euphemisms in this subject, somewhere. Maybe involving puncture repair kits, rubber, paddling, pumping, blowing, etc

Hi Colin(KS) One of our illustrios troup has announced that they will only be a day visitor so if it fits in with your plans pal , you can come along and earn that stich sir , just give me a shout and i will PM you extensive directions .

Talking of directions , you try and do something properly and concise and you get slated and ribbed on a public forum, just out of interest as you all know there is no way i could have put that little lot together , so i employed the services of the Green Man, so any further negative comments should be aimed at him !

Firewood for the meet , as Sticky said earlier the fuel situation will take some foraging , but there is a dungkicker just up the road selling logs £3.00 for a big bag , don't worry i will act as interpreter and if we all go on one wander , that coupled with whats washed up we will be fine .

As you know i do not profess to be an expert (at anything) but the foraging at this spot is excellent, and watching the egrets and cormorants the fishing don't look bad either, also when i was there a couple of weeks ago there was a chap who knew his stuff and he had shellfish galore (made i jealous)

Starting to itch now.

Although i am somewhat pleased with your concern for my buttock welfare , i think that is more of a jealousy thing as it is quite clear to all that you dont have any ,it's just where your legs meet at the top. But seeing as you have asked , so far no injuries to report.

Another gay maaaaannnn!

I have a plan. Everyone brings a bag of firewood (any timber will do) and they dump it the boot of my car on arrival (which I'll leave unlocked) and then at high tide we can chuck it all in the Lilo and then back to base camp!
Simples!
As our resident thespian swettie doesn't drive, he'll have to tie a sack of logs to his waist and thereby having a temporary **** which we can burn later.

Colin, we use hand sanitiser as lube; it has many uses!

Kernowek Scouser
04-07-2012, 20:55
Sadly I will not now be enjoying alternative uses for hand sanitizer in the near future.

After having assured me that I could loosen my shackles and join in the beach side fun, by employer / slave master has now indicated that I will be required to toil at the coalface throughout the weekend of the planned festivities.

As I do not currently have a Plan B on the employment front, a winning lottery tickets down the back of the sofa or a girlfriend whose Father owns a brewery (although he has spent enough in many a pub to have honorary shares in one) when my rather hollow ultimatum to 'start looking for another job if I wasn't given time off' was met with a shrug and a 'whatever' by Ernst Stavro Blofeld's sh:tty sibling, I quickly adopted a less combative tone, to avoid a P45 moment and a potential swim with piranha's sharks in the Evil Ones secret underground lair.

So after throwing my has into the ring, I must once again reluctantly withdraw it.

I hope you all have a wonderful time, get suitable lubricated and hide a pasty in my honour.

This morning the BBC were giving rain warnings of upto 60mm of rain here today with flood warnings all over the shop.

Well it's hammering down here, has been all day. I used to have a garden, but now I have a lake. Access to the property is via a 30p ferry ride, followed by a 20 yard swim. When I went to get some chips from the freezer, a passing trawler asked directions to the nearest shoal of cats, before weighing anchor and proceeding in a northerly direction (toward the cape of fear, just past shipwreck cove), where he attempted to get more sense from a merpostman , delivering fresh sails and oars to the boat house (previously known as the town hall).

Harvestman
06-07-2012, 13:22
I I used to rent my property from a housing association. We were having problems with drainage, and the garden kept filling up with water and then cascading as a waterfall into next door. Repeated complaints were met with no response.

One of their rules were that we could have any pet we liked, so long as we notified them first. So I called them and said "Since our garden is currently a swamp, we are getting a pet crocodile. Just letting you know."

The drainage was sorted within the week.

I'm awfully glad we don't live there any more though.

Hi De Hi ! campers, just got off that brilliant invention the telephone ,to our Lucy , and unfortunately things have conspired against her so she will be unable to attend on this occasion and will be sadly missed , but i have promised her a late night gang phone call from camp beach to let her know what she is missing and hopefully she will be reunited with the crazy gang very soon.

On a lighter note , not long returned from a night out in Bradley Woods , very interesting safe to say it rained a bit ! Beat my previous record in a tent , now 28 hours , still i was with very good company (sorry Adam ) which made it more than bearable!

So as our esteemed gopher/car park attendant/bikini designer, Itchy said there is one place left ,(all aboard the nut bus) so be quick .

And all this talk of weather , i rather like Richies approach to it .

Here's a genuine forecast that includes Thursday and Friday. 75% and 70% precipitation isn't what I'd class as 0% chance of rain lol.

In order that people don't think we are just a bunch of ne'erdowells messing around' I am publishing a short selection of some of the skills based workshops that will be available over the coming weekend

First up a new and exciting take on first aid-World exclusive preview

Self aid for buttock wounds. single and repeated
Our kind host Ivan has developed a very personal interest in this area and has been practicing practical self administered techniques which could save your life if you are ever stabbed in the behind.
Also some campfire chat around Lymes disease and how to catch it.
He's almost a Doctor

Next up and not to be missed if you want to appear to be moving towards an ultra lightweight set up

Rich the horse will be expanding his theories and practice around talking about a lightweight set up; while hanging a great big Zebra pot off your overfilled 70 litre rucksack. This talk may also include tips on how to manage your " ultralite" gear in the field if Rich manages one trip without losing something.

Blink and you will miss this next one

Most of us will have heard all this before and walked away disinterested; but our resident camo expert will be telling us all about concealment and the pros and cons of various military and civvy camos.
Yes Paul "as long as its green" Newman will be talking about and modelling some new and exciting developments in the colour green. This is really miraculous readers as he is in fact dead.Last chance to get genned up on the glory of green?

Something for everyone here

Social skills training-Yes I know not one for the purist schrafters but variety is the spice of life

Adam has kindly agreed to let us in the secret of his social success;in business around the campfire and strictly up the stables with the ladies
I personal;l feel I need this one so count me in Adam.
Adam will also be telling us how easy it is to get everyone else to put you to bed ;once you have mastered a few simple techniques. using only a bottle and a suggestion.
Get there early for this one or you may get the sign language version. Talented lad

The next one is guaranteed to change your life
I will be demonstrating my own personal take on foraging and the relevance of CRB checks on fellow campers.Ivan will expand on his "waste of time theory"with regard to wild foraging
A sub class on this may be my Kelly kettle demo- to get you in the mood here is a quick review "Not worth picking up"
Again Ivan will be helping out with some real forging for lobsters tips
Where is the nearest M&S?

There you go folks all this and much more, but if all this education seems a bit serious and a bit too much. I am sure we will have time in our busy schedule for general mayhem drinking eating and laughing.

Thank Goodness, at last some worth while comments from one of our more educated among the group, i feel a few alterations to content.

Firstly the Lymes talk will be a closed thing , so as not to bore the masses like an old man talking about his operation scars , maybe topped off with inguinal hernia tale (old hat)

After serious research into the buttock thing , i have been misled (some old prison movie footage) It is in fact to aim at the femeral artery on the front of the thigh ,upon ringing the door bell.

The lobster forage is cancelled, as M&S only do them in the week leading up to Christmas , and the dressed variety is particularly difficult to come by due to cctv and privately employed ,heavy handed security guards .

I for one wont be attending the green man thing as i have heard it too many times before and am slowly becoming a convert , and have felt like i am dead in recent weeks anyway.

The beach seems to bring out the best in Adam (Richard Dreyfuss) and with his competition prize in the bag , this one is not to be missed , an all new episode , with exciting new content , can't wait .

On the Rich thing , i am vey keen to see the ultralite take on shoreline equipment , as even larger items can be buried in the sand , for later retrieval, always brings something new and innovative , desireable and expensive to filch.

Dave53's masterclass on ground set up is one i am salivating over , as is to physically watch him trying to sleep , and the eerie echo created by him sleeping on his back will i am sure be haunting (recording a must )

This time i am taking a real chance , not having an interpreter along , for the Sweatty forage amble ,talk, and resulting cookery class ,will i am positive be very informative , but as with all professionals , one will come away enlightened astounded but , when asked in the pub at a later date will have no idea what the bloke said .

Any additions to the list much appreciated

Thanks again Steve .

I also have a new instrument to add to the existing orchestra (previously, only a harmonica), which arrived the other day. A Jew's harp (also known as a jaw harp), which I have been looking at all week. No idea how the two instruments will sound together, as I can only attempt to play one at a time. Could be interesting if no one else wants to take one of these instruments in their mouth , as I will have to find some other way of passing air through the harmonica, or find some other orifice to press the harp against...

...still, I'm sure it won't make any difference once beer o'clock hits.

See folks these genuinely are social skills to be marveled at; watch and learn as Adam uses cheap musical instruments in his very own up the stables way

Ivan's interpreter will be covering such sayings as...
"Ey would nee know, Ey've neer treed et" meaning "I would not know. I have never tried it"
"Dinnie fall doon the steers, and bong yer heed" meaning " Do not fall down the stairs, and bang your head"
"many a mickle makes a muckle" meaning ... we'll have to find out at the meet, as I have no idea.

I hope you Jolly Boys have a good forage, catch a bass or two and find a few breaks in the weather. Shame I coudn't join you this time but I will be dodging the showers on the beach at Southwold this weekend. Hope to join you all on a moor or in a wood sometime soon.

Ivan...
10-07-2012, 10:39
Hi Trev, glad to see youm still about , enjoy your own break, and as you have said if we ever get any summer we will get together in a wood soon.

Right ! I appreciate that most of you have let me know your arrival times , if anyone is not sure please shout.

Upon parking, walk down the concrete beach slip and turn LEFT ! (MOST IMPORTANT BIT) Follow the coast around for approx half a mile to the headland turn the corner and thats where we will be .

Alternatively, walk towards the concrete slip , just before there are some steps on your left saying coastal path , up through the woods , follow this path for approx 3/4 mile and you will descend to our spot its the first beach you will come to.

I have various peoples intended timings , and will do my best to come and greet you , but if the chaps that are already there just say whos coming next and when ? I will remember , i know it sounds a bit Harry Tate , but the mobile reception is dreadful, and i don't want anybody in tears at the parking area.

For those bringing too much kit (you know who you are ) Don't struggle trying to carry it all in one trip , as you know there are plenty of willing hands to help.

There is a fresh water run off to the beach close by , but i would be a bit concerned from a chemicals on the fields etc , point of view .So if everyone brings a bottle of water with them we will be fine .

Trying not to repeat myself , but firewood is covered and we are all chucking a fiver in to a kitty to cover food and other essentials!

As always any last minute changes, questions please raise them.

Bring it on !!

Damn you all!
Having just caught up on the Jolly Boys latest, I've now just unpacked the car and re-packed my gear reducing it down to a mere TWO 50KG packs plus water, cast Iron cookware and canoes. I've also added a metal detector to combe the beach and recover my gear when done!
Was considering bringing a 3/4 tonne skip too to help the swettie with his foraging class but it won't fit on the roof rack.

I've also packed 2 ltrs of KY for my new masterclass. This isn't available in olive green but I do have some containing ground glass for those put in the naughty corner.

Probably the last call for the Jolly Boys Beach Meet , any last minute questions , say now or forever hold your peace ! Skate , Myself, Adam ,Green Man and Richie will be safely ensconced at the beach from tomorrow afternoon , and although the met office are doing their best to put us off , it wont work as they are liards.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday's forecasts are a lot better , so pack your trunks and in some cases bikinis, would also be nice if some of us can bring beach type games and toys !

really looking forward to getting together again ,as it seems like ages .

Roll on tomorrow ,see you guys there , drive safe.

I really wanted to make the 'jolly Dartmoor beach boys outing' but alas, work intervened. Don't feel sorry for me though, I'm spending the next two days in Bournemouth on a works fancy dress do as me and 24 of my colleagues try and drink our own body weight in alcoholic beverages. Well that was fun!
Back early as busy tomorrow. Great location and all the local dog walkers were very friendly. A young (22) lad strolled past with his back pack on and said hello, ended up staying with us overnight and joining in with the fun. Now he is an honoury member of the Jolly Boys.
Lots of fishing done but up to when I left nothing caught.
Can't believe my head is actually sunburnt!!!
Great to meet Steve and Richie and hook up again with my other mates and already looking forward to the next one.
By the way.....Ivan has a strange way of catching tennis balls!

I will let others more affected tell the tale of anger inducing vandalism and stupidity
A great time on the beach not only met the young hiker but on first night met a few thousand sand hoppers who were passing by and stopped in my tent.
adequate zipping put a stop to that.
Jones the butcher and Skate great to meet you; Greenman you never said goodbye to me so in my own way I now assume you hate me.Ivan and A you need to get out more!!!
Richie thanks for the imaginary tow in your tactical lilo lol.It was like an evacuation situation which I rather enjoyed apart from the near swamping
As usual good food ,beer and company. Back to work and planning my Galloway Hills solo jaunt.

PS if anyones interested I am having an overnighter in my local spot 28th julyto meet a local guy who is making whoopie slings Jolly boys welcome and the stay can be extended if you want PM for details

Hi Guys, well that was great fun , firstly i won't list all the poor fellas that couldn't make it for various reasons ,safe to say you all appeared in our thoughts conversation and mickey taking. Next time !

I think i have to touch on a subject, that i was so incensed with i nearly started a new thread about it , to see if it had happpened to others on BCUK, i still even might .

We all had a magical weekend , despite a mixed bag of weather , but on our return to our vehicles we found some very brave soul had punctured an offside tyre on two members cars , although not my vehicle and the fact that one of ours was untouched , it took whichever fool responsible a fair bit of effort to get to where we were parked (very remote and obvious they drove a vehicle there to carry out the deed ) Which leads me to believe it was somebody relatively local to the area .

Not to worry , i have taken out a contract on them !also i am putting a poster together to be displayed at the area ,to warn others and to offer the idiot a showdown (seriously complete with my contact details ) I am not a violent man by any means , but if i only could have been wandering back to the car (to get more beer) and have caught the sh1tebag , it would have been a very interesting spell , followed by the "leave no trace ethic" dragged his sorry **** back to camp cooked and eaten the pillock .

Anyway , moving on for the moment , thankyou everyone that came and had a fab time , i certainly did , once again ,great company ,brill food , lots of beer and as usual stomach ache from laughing , some very good photos to follow .

Much more to come , but for now i am off to the beach , to do some detective work , to try and find the phantom tyre stabber, and those who know me , know he will be very very sorry indeed , he will wish he had not bothered..
