View Full Version : mackerel?
Are there any mackerel showing up in loch long yet?
I know i might be a bit late in answering you but i was there last week & caught about 50 between 4 of us. im popping over on sat afternnon for another shot.
We're catching them in the Forth Estuary, seems to be loads of them.
We were catching literally hundreds off the beach a few weeks ago.
Had them in guernsey by the hundreds for well over six weeks also lots of turbot and brill
I tried locally and never got a sniff.
Haven't managed to get up to Loch Long unfortunately, as I couldn't sort out any campsite details.
thanks anyway though
all the best
went out on Saturday, very few about and they were only small, about 8 inches, very poor again this year.
caught a few when we were up north on holiday ,, good times
Went for a stroll with the dog on Sunday, headed East along the shore towards the mouth of the River Almond opposite Cramond.
There were loads of folk fishing from just past The Hawes pier most of the way along the Shellbeds. They were catching mackerel by the dozen and a few had trout.
Monday morning I'm up, showered, dressed and hot footing it to Longcraig pier East of the Forth Rail Bridge. Just as I drop my gear (tidily as I'll have to move back as the tide comes in) I see a sea trout jump and splash ahead of me!
Spinning with a beach caster earned me two sea trout which were skewered above a wee fire. Not having done this in yonks, my right arm ached for a day or two.
Great fun though!
Had three dozen today was flat calm out on the water so not many were being hooked BBQ is on the go as I type
Went snorkeling the other day, cant help you with Mackeral, but the sea here is literally full of Pollack, mostly Juvi ones though i did see quite a few keeper's, and a mahoosive conger!
