Well look what happens when you stop bushcraft for 15 years! Bushcraft communities! Knives for £200! What's all that about? No I haven't been in a coma, I actually stopped because of the Rambo-esque/survivalist bad name people practicing bushcraft was getting, not to mention a number of other projects and a demanding new career. Shame on me eh?

I switched on the TV a couple of months ago and noticed the Mears programmes, logged on to the net and noticed that maybe things were turning out a little better for the bushcraft folk. I dug out my knife (rusty and blunt) threw the sheath away (mouldy) and tried on my trousers (too small - must have shrunk!) I went to the woods and puffed around like a small elephant.

Anyway, enough of this nonsense. My names Pablo. I spent a few years in the army and I'm now in Essex UK. I'm looking forward to re-learning lost skills and buying new kit! My philosophy is based on the less you have the better, but I go equipped for wildlife watching. (Aren't these digital cameras great?)

This community seems awesome and I'm really looking forward to learning and contributing. See you all soon.

Hello Pablo...........I am quite new to this site and can tell you that most of the users I have come across are all into bushcraft rather than the Rambo types. Everyone is very helpful and seem to bend over back woods (sorry) to help with any questions etc you have. For me this site is the nearest you can get to being out there without being out there. Welcome
...............Jon

Welcome to a very friendly corner of virtual bushcraft......the real thing is alive outside (which is where I'd rather be, instead of being at work, ALL weekend....thank heavens I've got access to a computer) And the weather has been good, despite the forecast...That's the sunny south for you :)

Roll on wednesday....I wonder if my son's packed yet (he's a bit keen) :red:

Hi Pablo,

A very warm welcome. I am also attracted to the "less is more" bushcraft and tend to explore areas of bushcraft where the only tools you use are provided by nature. Knives make me nervous.

KellyKettle, that is.

Welcome Pablo. As you can see there is a lot of focus here on conservation, outdoor skills, primitive technology, environmental awareness and reconnecting with nature.

I've been to a few meets and without exception, bushcraft people are nice people. The other striking thing is how capable they are - it's quite humbling to see someone succeed in making fire with a hand drill when you know it's hard enough with the bow drill.

I've not met any Rambo fantasists here!

Thanks to everyone for your warm welcomes.

ScottC, I'm in a small village just north of Braintree called Wethersfield.
