Fire steel Problem

Firesteels are getting quite popular lately so i thought I'd post this.

I recently droppped my firesteel on a concrete floor and it shattered. I am now left with a firesteel half the size.

This did surprise me as it is made of metal but it happened.

I was curious if anyone else had the same problem????

Theres some really knowledgable people on this forum, and im sure theyll correct me if im wrong, but i was under the impression that it was kinda like a tightly compressed powder, or something like that, as opposed to being made of actual metal? :confused:

The construction of the Ferro-magnesium fire sticks does seem to give rise to some frailties. Aside from avoiding to drop the stick, you also need to avoid protracted contact with moisture. :eek: See this previous thread:
