On Sat 24th March we will be sharing our parking spot with members of the Dartmoor Tin Research group (DTRG) an archaeological group who, as the name suggests, study the history of tin working on Dartmoor.

They will be going on a guided field walk to Western Wella Brook, T Girt, Gibby Beam and Huntindon Mine. An approximately 4km walk over the moors and have invited any members of our gang who are interested to come along - there is no charge.

The group will be led by Dr Phil Newman author of The Field Archaeology of Dartmoor ( http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/publications/field-archaeology-dartmoor/ ) and there will be many other interesting and knowledgeable people attending.

Phil has told me that some members of his group are far from mountaineers so the walking pace will be very gentle.

As there will be handouts and other details to arrange we have been asked to submit approx numbers a few days in advance of the walk, so it would be useful if, when indicating your attendance at The Great Dartmoor Bake Off, you could also say if you would like to go on the walk.

ATB Paul

P.S. They are a rather serious and sober lot, so we'll have to be on our best behaviour! :)

Exxxxcellent dates! No clashes for me this time around and I expect to be there.....it does seem a long time off and a long time since I last saw you.

Glad you all had an eventful weekend in December (while I was organising and attending the Beekeepers' Christmas lunch) and a sociable Wrap Up Tour last weekend (while my organisation and running the Honey Show encroached on the weekend).
When I put up to be Plymouth Beekeepers Social Secretary I was pretty sure my duties wouldn't clash with anything else - just a couple of important events in the middle of winter - what could go wrong?

See you in March

I'm coming :) When you say bake off does that mean cakes??

Ivan...
18-01-2012, 19:47
No , you sugar coated bakery item , it means that various meet members are going to excell themselves , in the woodland kitchen to provide the best food we have ever eaten at a meet ! You included , so get your thinking cap on !

I got to be honest , if you make one Skate , i for one will be happy for you to wave the thing around , like a 17 year old clubber , until it falls to bits , anything , anything has to be less annoying than that dam stick dance !!

Seated I may add..

Ivan...
18-01-2012, 20:06
My Dear Paul , trust you , it in no way refers to the deposits left , either in the little blue tent , the woodland drop , or in the ditch on the open moor , where there are no moles !!

With the current interest in every other programme on telly , being cookery related , i just thought we would take it to another level .

Now get thinking !!

Ichneumon
18-01-2012, 20:15
Oh! I stand corrected - silly me! :togo: Ermmm... In that case, how about Chicken dhansak (a Persian curry) served with saffron rice, yoghurt and mango chutney?

Ivan...
18-01-2012, 20:30
Everybody in the woods , say yahaay ! Except Adam , like your thinking Newman , there are no hard and fast rules , as obviously extra marks will be awarded for full preparation in the woods , similarly marks will not be deducted for prior prep either , so lets make this a eat meet to remember .

It's partly Rich's fault with that beer bread !

( Wasn't picking on Adam , its just he don't do curry )

jonajuna
18-01-2012, 20:32
Will it be real saffron rice or a poor turmeric imitation?

Its really good to have a lurker , come out of the shadows and contribute to the thread , our little Dartmoor thing is not restricted in any way to existing members , or people that have been before etc etc .

So, jacko1066 ( Steve ) thanks for your comments , i understand of course Cambridge is a long way to come , when you don't know what you are letting yourself in for and don't know anyone , but as you can see we are a very friendly and lively bunch . True we may not take Bushcrafting too seriously , but we always have a great time .

Testament to the fact , that 2 newbies took the plunge for the last meet and enjoyed it so much they are coming again , to my mind thats exactly what it is all about .

Anyway , if ever there is a time that you feel the urge to , find time in your work schedule , and think sod it i will travel down for a nose , you , along with any other lurkers would always be more than welcome to come and try it out , its flexible enough that you can always come a few days early or leave a few days late , as i have control over the site annually . Anyway suffice to say one day " Come On Down "

Patrols , you sucker for punishment , so glad you had a good time , and have decided in your wisdom to return !
We are planning to do a few more activities this time .

Tea Bea , another to return to the madness of Dartmoor , great that not even the bee's are going to stop you coming , please let me know your travel plans , you know what i mean that hill ! so we can sort something out .

Looks like I'll have to make a special trip to Dartmoor in the first couple weeks of March, as well as at the end of it. Must sample the moorland birch sap, see how it compares to our midland offerings. I should be there, as usual lol.

Ivan...
19-01-2012, 15:01
Ok ! This meet looks like its going to be a culinary delight , so as we don't end up with more food than we can shake a stick at , just a suggestion , that those intending to cook , actually cater for say 4 heads , that way we can all sample each others cooking !

Its NOT compulsory , but those who fancy a go , great , those who " can't cook won't cook " don't have to, so Chef Newman has started the ball rolling with his dhansak , anyone else has any ideas please post them , and see what we end up with !

We have plenty of time to compile a final list , and i think we could be in for a veritable woodland banquet , yummy !!

Also valid point by Adam , about the birch sap rising , about the second week in March , sometimes because we are so many feet above sea level , it can be later , but seeing as we have had such a mild winter , it could be on time .
I can always pop up and check , so for any interested in the elixir if life , that only comes but once a year , give me a shout .

I'm an ok cook on a stove with all the bits and pieces.... In the woods, on a camp fire, I'm limited to chilli and rice or stuff out a tin.

However, so I'm not completely dipping out, I'd like to bring and prep some campfire baked chocolate and marshmallow stuffed banananananas. Will bring enough for all, so what I lack in creativity I'll make up for in numbers ;)

Hope thats okies with all? :)

Hi Steve , welcome aboard, nice touch with the offer of a lift , and very interesting angle on your " stir fry of the woods " looks like we will have a lot of things to try at the dinner table ! Look forward to meeting you .

Jon , I don't think anyone wants to see my face on a book ! it's bad enough when rogue photos appear on here , still i am sure some other readers of this thread will know what you are talking about !

I have never tried " now't more " but if big Al has anything to do with it , past experiences tell us it will be very good .

That dam Badger ! digs trenches like he splits logs ! At least the one for Newman , was dug at at a leisurely pace , and only when he peered in was it easy to give him that shove , to rifle his gear , you want to see all of my new olive drab clothing , it's ace !

Padawan, as I prefer ! Is a sub district of the city of Kuching ( near Hennock ) in the state of Sarawak ( just north of Newton Abbot ) Malaysia . The name is also used to refer to the local Dartmoor Government , in Sarawak . The Padawan Municipal Council ( Majalis Perbanderan Padawan ( Dirty Dartmoor National Park Authority , had a million pounds cut from their budget , HA Ha ! , nosey barsts ) and to Bidayuh Village ( Skate and i had a pint there once ! ) Which is also known as Kampang ( note how like camping that sounds ) .

The Jalan Padawan is the name of a road near mile 23 of Kuching - Serian Highway . Tis not only you who can go off topic , you bridge builder you !!

I'm afraid I'm another one who isn't brilliant with this darn new-fangled technology - I have a facebook page, rarely used, and exactly what do I need to send you? Also how do I find Ivan on the darn thing?

More importantly, in looking through my kit since last packing it up in a hurry in the rain after my last meet (yes THAT meet) I seem to be without my mora knife on a green knotted cord, did anyone find it at the end of the meet? I may just have thrown it into something I haven't searched yet, and I am moving house so things are spread over two houses, but I seem to have run out of places to look.

Confused of devon

Hi Lucy , thank goodness a fellow gang member , who knows very little about these things ! Adam and Jon have had a fair amount of amusement over this modern transition , and doubtless will gain some more !

In answer to you mora question , i have not found it , i have had a look in lost property and apart from a pair of smelly socks , nothing ! I will put a message out on the tannoy at regular intervals , and offer a reward . Also when i am up on the land i will keep my eyes peeled , cos if i find it there is a reward ! If not i will just put it on Ebay !

If no joy in your search , don't worry you can hire mine at the next meet ! job sorted .

I know it's a bit of a trek for most (around the 180-200 mile mark, from Devon), but it would be a nice change of scenery. Plus you'd love to have a nosy around the bunker complex Skate :)

AAAHHH! My weekend will become complete , as i always suffer withdrawal symptoms , after and between meets ! I have managed to talk two very respected members of Dartmoor LTD , to come and play , i couldn't possibly divulge who they are ,you will just have to wait for the photos and write up , of our exploits , suffice to say i am a happy bunny , with much fun and merryment planned , for the next couple of days .

Ivan...

Anyway gotta go , Crimewatch is on in a minute , and i always like to see if i am on !

Arry has told me he hopes to come to the Moorland bake off - but told me not to tell you! He spent a number of years in his younger days as a chef, but don't tell him I told you - wouldn't want anybody to think I can't keep a secret.

I might have to visit Northants too but I'll go incognito to check-out the military situation - ssshhhh, don't tell Adam. I've already dyed my mop-head grey, which should make a great 'syrup' and I'll black out a front tooth and dress in jeans - that should be good enough to fool Katie, let alone Adam! Skate: As part of my cunning plan I need you to lose a certain person enroute. Rick: Please PM me some jokes - I need a repertoire or my cover will be blown. Message to self: Buy chainsaw oil.

:D

I'm hoping to get a board meeting of Dartmoor Ltd before March but can't make this weekend - dammit!

I have had to arise , under the cover of darkness, as i think something funny is going on ? After some detective work I have acreepy feeling there is a spy amongst us ! I know I know ! Its hard to believe after the great care I have taken with the rigorous selection process, so with that in mind please be extra vigilant, only whisper among yourselves , and we have to start planning these secret Dartmoor meets , by private message , or carrier pigeon .

I of course have my own suspicions , because i am not thick ! Things like , I marked my just for men bottle , and it has definately been tampered with , along with my chainsaw oil , also the wrigleys extra , that i use for weddings , funerals and other special occasions ( for the gap ) have been depleted .

Don't panic everyone as i am on the case , in fact this weekend , i have organised a secret special op's meeting on deepest Dartmoor ( no chance of bugging ) With Detective inspectors Savage and Skate ( Special Branch , oak and ash ) And we will root this imposter out !

Thankyou for your attention, and remember loose lips cost dribbles !

Ivan...

Ps no one seems to have had a go at the mystery campers competion , be quick, entries close at midnigt tonight , please do not call after that time as your vote won't count and you still may be charged.

Ivan...
27-01-2012, 08:18
I had a bit of time before the rendezvous, so have racked my brains , and i actually think the imposter is a WASP !
Dressed mainly in olive green , about 6 feet tall !

Habitat. clearings, tracks, footpaths and Bushcraft Meets .

Diet. Host body tissues, all day breakfasts and lager after 7.00pm .

Statistics. Up to 6 feet tall , slender , but sometimes with an enormous ovipositor !

Conservation. The giant version, is not listed in the IUCN RED list , there fore not protected .

Notes . Even the giant Ichneumons are harmless to humans , but can be a bit cocky , so if any of you spot one ,let me know , i now keep a can of raid in my pack at all times .

27-01-2012, 12:38
Ssshhh :27:. Gather round chaps :grouphug:. I think a certain upland dweller (Surface agent X-2-zero) might have heard the whispering and be up to no good.

My suspicions were aroused when I regained conciousness in a hangi pit and couldn't remember how I got there. Then there was the curious matter of the 'sleep apnea'. On the two evenings we were alone at the rendezvous he sneaked into his tent for a 'little sleep' after the evening meal. Ha! I think not! With all this talk about radios I reckon he was signalling to his Titan or Aquaphibian masters. I must get 'Phones' (aka TBL) to monitor all frequencies in future.

I have raised these matters with Cmd. Sam Shore (Dave53) so rest assured - action will be taken. I believe he has been speaking to a covert assassin (codename Kard133) but I can't say more. Atlanta (Mandimoo), steady your nerve gal! We all get cold feet once in a while - it's dangerous work! Marina (Lucy) needs to be debriefed after her exposure at the last meet. We can't use Oink (Dusty) on any dangerous missions, his cajonnes deserted him during a previous operation.

ATB Troy ;)

P.S. I believe Freddy Fish will be coming to the next meet - with a name like that we're gonna have to be on our guard.

Sorry for the delay buddy... Not on this area much at mo. The underquilt was made by a maker on here called Unsponsored.
It was (I think) 60 squid at the time and its down, rather than synthetic so it compresses really well :)

Don't get blown away with loads of dosh! A fair amount of swingers prefer a simple foam mat or even a folded over blanky! You can get away with a lot spring onwards.

Ok It's now time to chuck some more firewood on this thread , and get her stoked up , because it is only about 4 weeks to the bake off ! , so get that kit washed dried and ironed , ready for action !

Because of the numbers expressing an interest in the upcoming meet , it would be great to have a bit of a list of attendees and an idea of catering plans , some of you want to keep their recipes secret , but we must have a bit of order in the woods !

So if anyone spies , peoples intentions on other forums or that farcebook thingy , could somebody add their name on here as a possible .

Thankyou . Ivan..

Also any special requests for walks/ activities etc , fire away with any ideas . Only because this time i have ordered fine weather throughout the whole weekend !

savagebushcraft
21-02-2012, 21:48
Also I would like to add, it has become apparent that firewood (of reasonable size) is some what low, so if anyone has access to firewood, and the ability to transport it to the parking area, it would be great if you could help us out. The cheaper the better, as we are poor bushcrafters, who have spent all our money on kit/new toys/sharp things/booze/etc :D

I will be able to get a small about of firewood in my tiny little car, but anyone with...ooow, say Land Rovers, VW estates, Vectra estates, Convertibles, 4/8 tonners, Trailers, and the like, feel free to chuck a bag in the boot/bed/trailer/hold/box/whatever :)

Almost premium prices paid !

Ivan...
22-02-2012, 11:39
Nicely put Adam , firewood is now getting a little thin on the ground . It was always going to become an issue , so in future there will be a small consideration because it will have to be draughed in , and obviously it costs money .

For the " Bake Off " if anyone can bring a bag of logs/kindling along that would be great , and don't worry about carrying it up to site as i can sort that .

Also we may need more than one fire , with all of the woodland chefs performing !

If anyone has any larger cooking vessels they can bring along , that would be magic .

Any other concerns/ suggestions or questions please voice .

Thankyou.

+1. Hear hear Lucy! I also tried it. Rubbish!! An unfriendly, unintuative, all-pervasive, over-intrusive form of computer virus. It was worse than my worst nightmare about it. I have no intention of telling the world such important and life-changing things like whether my dog's got diarrhea or that my drains are blocked, and I'm really not interesting in reading that it happened to other people. Even though I had full security settings by simply adding Arry as a friend I made myself available to the public scrutiny of half the damned planet. I don't mind telling Arry that I found stains in my pyjamas one morning but I don't want all his friends, some of whom are a bit dodgy, to also know about it. :D

As you all know i was very wary about that whole thing , i know it seems to be the modern way of social contact , in the 21st century , and i was led to believe that a closed private group was just that , but i too are a bit dissapointed in all the dross that accompanies it . Its a shame that our group can't stick to one site to discuss what we all love doing , because we are pretty lucky on here we get left alone , and boy do we ever go off topic sometimes .
My biggest concern is , that a lot of the photographs and videos etc , are now all over the place and those members that don't like facebook are missing out .

Still hopefully we can get it back on here " Keep calm and carry on ! " On the plus side it has helped in me regaining regular contact with my older daughters , a bit sad really , but that is the way of the world .

So enough negative talk about F/B , lets get back on track .

What colour scheme will Ichneuman , mostly be sporting at the upcoming meet ?
Prize a toilet roll !

PS you can never have enough negative talk about facebook ( oops! here i go again )

my dog's got diarrhea" ... "my drains are blocked,

If you stop feeding it that rubbish that you cook on the moor then it won't have diarrhea - and if you make it go behind a tree like you do on the moor, then your drains wouldn't be blocked

Ivan...
27-02-2012, 17:03
Right ! i have aquired two more large cooking pots , one big enough to feed an army literally ! and another frying pan and two more chairs , also took a load of dry firewood up ( got stuck , don't tell anybody ! dear old Ruth pulled me off sorry out ! with her big Toyota, that will cost me ! )

The site is recovering well , and spring is definately on her way , sap is starting to rise , i have taken up some 12 foot half round rails and 8 foot posts , so if any body fancies building a big old shelter somewhere they can .

So if anyone is at a loose end before the meet , or just needs to get away just shout , because i am flexible and am always more than happy to camp out .

If anybody , has a hammock , they have been thinking about getting rid of let me know please , as i am going to have another go at it !

the beuty of facebook is that everyone is connected through it (as much as they want to be) its an instant form of communications if you have a smartphone whether android, windows or that apple thing

here you have to nav to the site, log in (unless you allow the site to store tracking cookies on your pc... and boy is it heavily loaded with ad based tracking cookies) scroll to the forum before you can read what has been posted... no immeadiacy about it, it relies on the person jumping through loads of hoops to read what you mate has said

Firstly , thankyou very much Adam , i was not whinging ! merely pointing out that , some of our film and photos were getting posted all over the place , and yes you are quite correct in your assumption that i am one of the more technically challenged members of the Dartmoor group . Sorry about the wobbly vid everyone , but it's better than none ! Cheers Adam .

Savagewolfrm, i am a little concerned , that this may not be the kind of meet for you , it's "Bushcrafting " and not late night carpark or moorland activity ! But if you are interested we may have a meet to suit your strange tastes later in the year , look out for details of " Swing Low Sweet Hammock 1 "

Kind regards Ivan...

Dave , i am sure Roger will let you handle , and ring a bird ! As i hear on the grapevine you have done it before !

Glad you liked the list of runners and riders , for the big Moorland Bake Off , ( A gruelling weekend , race over about a mile , with all contestants carrying , packs , on a demanding surface , the reward being a great time ! )

Another great weekend ! Friday a lovely walk with Skate , all along Fairy Glen , crystal clear river and a lovely old spot i used to camp , donkeys years ago , and a bit of derelict building nosing on the moor , thanks Al magic day .

Friday evening , my second oldest Jess ( now a member on here ! ) came to camp for the weekend , great time and she is now a convert ! First time i have had my hair cut in the woods ! Saturday night third oldest Emily returned from a drum and base event in London , and came and joined us ! We cheated a bit i went down the Indian takeaway and we ate like lords around the fire ! ( still hot )

They said they really enjoyed it ( despite the rain on Sunday morning ) They both mucked in with firewood gathering and other woodland chores ! And are really looking forward to the meet , as is their older sister Hannah , who was too unwell to join us for this weekend . So there will be 5 noisey Wilsons for Dartmoor 6 , to contend with ! ( well except for Katie , the quiet one )

Thanks girls love Dad xx

04-03-2012, 14:01
Oh ! Forgot to mention on our walk , near Haytor AL and I found a complete Dartmoor pony skeleton , whole skull with teeth, already spoken for , but i have two complete hooves , so for the more macabre and interesting of you the first to baggsy them , they are yours , make good pots , ashtrays , ornaments .

The skeleton was completely stripped by fox, corvids and insects , but perfectly bleached , seemed like a good idea , until i had carried it about a mile , and got some funny looks from the grocks walking along the road back to the car !!

Will that infamous ribcage incident be fixed in time ? And will you be bringing the Dorset rohipnol ? As i would rather like a weekend to remember .

Also please keep any of that , so called cider in its original packaging , to save confusion and disorientation , thankyou .

Is Ivan recruiting (by breeding) his own private petticoat army to overwhelm us all by sheer weight of numbers? Run lads!

Joel's tent is gonna look positively dinky compared to one big enough to fit all those Wilsons into.

Can anybody tell me (or do I mean warn me?) the names/IDs of these new Wilson recruits to the forum, so I can don my battle-bowler before replying to one of their posts and take cover afterwards. I'm sure, if they are even the tiniest chip of the old block, they'll be lobbing mortars (hopefully humour-mortars) back into my trench and showing no mercy. Even mild-mannered Katie can pack a mean punch when it comes to the art of withering invective!
What is the collective noun for a gathering of Wilsons? An intimidation maybe? :yikes: Suggestions to this forum. Victoria Beckham OD handbag to the winner.

Ivan...
04-03-2012, 20:03
My Dear Mr Newman , you are quite right to be afraid , very afraid . Thes girls are now in the latter stages of strategic planning with military precision , two of them came up this weekend on a recce , hauled firewood , built shelter, cooked ate , tested season 2/3 sleeping equipment , used the woodland drop , without so much as a whinge ! Oh yes demanded things like 3in 1 coffe , tea , full english etc etc . I am knackered they had me all over the place . Started talking about walking boots and packs and suchlike ,What have i done ?

Only one has joined so far , and is building up to an introduction , she is known as Jess . The one who has snaffled a new mora 511 already, carved her tent pegs and marshmallow toasting stick with my clipper though , as she did'nt want to get hers dirty !

Actually there is nothing to fear , as long as you speak only when spoken to, tip you hat and don't try and get smart by discussing things like hair and the gym etc, and on no circumstances , get embroiled in a verbal battle with the oldest one as , you WILL be led away in tears a gibbering wreck !!

Not really they are good fun , and are keen to learn , but if you find yourself surrounded by ( the yet decided collective term ) do not panic just try and slip away very slowly , as they can strip a grown man to the bone in seconds ( pirahna style )

All the very best

Ivan...

I've got some lovely rohypnol on the go at the moment, I've been self medicating on it so I don't really know if my cracked rib hurts or not (it probably does). It will be arriving in a non-descript container mind so be wary. Dave is in the plans if I can prise him away from his new Californian bird. Might drag her along too if she's over.

@ Bucephalas: Nice to hear we have another recruit to the FB inadequates. See post #159. Software evaluation is my speciality, but that cuts no ice with the FB aficionados (aka the Brainwashed). So welcome along pal. The debates round the campfire could be lively - but fun. :)

Good to have a new nutter in the Dartmoor gang. Looking forward to meeting you.

My dear Mr Wilson. Talking about finding a dead pony and claiming the head and hooves as some kind of morbid trophy is heartless and thoughtless now that we have Bucephalas amongst us. Please observe a little decorum and respect his feelings. A recent blockbusting movie has highlighted the valour of his kind. We should observe a degree of political correctness - please don't alienate new friends.

P.S. With so many of the normal nutters, an overwhelm of Wilsons and many new faces arriving in vast numbers, I'll try to get there early in the week to help (watch) you prepare. :)

Wow!! That's it! I had my eureka moment! The collective noun for a gathering of Wilsons!

It's an 'overwhelm'!

Hello peep's, just to let e all know that Adam ,Skate, Teabee and myself won't be around this weekend , as we are doing a bit of camping , walking, birch tapping , shooting , eating and drinking , so we won't be around to reply to anything , it's not that we are being rude and there are certain members that don't like it when we go quiet .

Hopefully pics and maybe a video of our exploits , just to whet the appetite of the impending gathering , it appears that some just can't wait !

So if you don't mind keeping an eye on the place , you know put the cat out , make sure you turn the lights off , oh and if you get five minutes push the hoover round .

Thanks The Boys .

Ps if you are good , we might even bring you back something nice .

I think it's about time we had a chip in for Ivan, so he can buy his own damn camera, or at least a couple batteries and SD cards, to use in mine. I have important things to document on these meets/outings. Also, I find it totally unfair, that I be made to lug around all the AV equipment, all by my lonesome. :p

I accepted a photography booking last October and didn't put the bugger in my Outlook calendar. I wasn't the happiest bunny when they called today to confirm and I've been unable to get anyone else to cover.

I have the biggest test of my hosting career tomorrow , i have 52 Air Cadets walking across Dartmoor to my place , as part of their Ten Tors training , and they want feeding ! Fortunately Mr Newman is coming to help me down from the tree, like the gibbering wreck i will be and to tell me " There , there,it's all going to be allright " Not that i am worried one little bit , anyway off up the woods to wait their arrival !! Ah, now, 10 tors is something I'd like to discuss. A few of my mates' boys are doing their training next week and I reckon they're going to be somewhere close to your site at some point Ivan. I have full backing from their fathers to go sh!t 'em up in the night as they are currently grounded (except for 10 tors) for being naughty and it would be nice to show them that even on Dartmoor they still can't escape the watchful eye.

17-03-2012, 05:34
Hi Paul , Although it seems a cunning plan and a laugh , if you were to try and sneak up on a group of youngsters on a Ten Tors practice walk , not only would you put the fear of God up them , you would probably get yourself arrested ! As the leaders and spotters ( to ensure the health and safety aspect ) not to mention the British Army ( landrovers , helicopters etc ) are obviously there to make sure nothing goes wrong . I think it would backfire badly , even with parents permission !

Then although , part of the route does pass right by my place (Pupers Hill) It is very unlikely that they will even be on that bit of the moor , they could be miles away . But if you are serious , then make sure the leaders know what your intention is , as i feel it could get very messy , and i for one don't want to play . Therefore for that reason i am out !

Good luck with whatever you decide .

As before. I will place a couple two way radios up in/near/around the car parking area, for anyone that needs to notify us of their arrival, or needs a hand with kit, or someone to come meet them, to show the way to the site. If anyone has their own two ways/walkies then we will be operating on channel 3,5, or 7 depending on traffic/availability on/of those channels. We should be ok for 3 though, as there shouldn't be too many folk using it in range, if any.

There will be a notice on the gate post/fence, detailing where the radios sets can be found (they're better kept in a dry place, and away from any curious walkers :)).

Due to battery life, the units will be switched off, but the power button is marked. They will be set on channel 3, but instructions will be left in case a channel change is needed.

I heard Milton Jones say he say an African warrior dancing in the back of a car, then over the radio came...."Zulu, Tango, Sierra"...:D

Well disapointment and envy have got the better of me and I have managed to get someone to cover my job on Saturday, so If it's ok with everyone else (including the horses head) I will now be attending for the full weekend.

As there were no tears and protests at my cancelling I felt compelled to re-double my efforts to attend! (Plus SWMBO'd put me on a full weekend of babysitting while she did a lot of retail therapy)!

On that note, would it be ok for me to bring a buddy along. No he's not the one doing a naked wager, he's an ex-RAF mate who loves the outdoors but is new to Bushcraft (newer than me that is). His wife is also 4 weeks away from dropping, I mean "giving birth", and he could do with a mainly estrogen free environment for a few nights. :vio:

On the food front, what's the score there? What do I need to bring/conjure up in the spirit of the "Great Bake Off"??
