It looks similar to American Plaintree (sycamore) (http://www.domtar.com/arbre/english/p_plocc.htm)

Sycamore leaves arent as straight/angular as that, sycamore is about the only tree I can ID :o It grows like a weed round here!
Is it definitely a leaf from the tree, and not a tendrill/vine growing on the tree?

ps I am no good at tree ID, am just asking!

A useful link that, Goose, thanks. I too have seen these leaves and wondered what they were. I thought they looked like big angular oak leaves.

I think you're right though, with London Plane:

Looking at the pic I'd say Goose is right, it's a London Plain :D

Cheers,

Bam. :)

The biggest ID feature for London Plane is the distinctive bark, which falls off in plates, leaving the tree ( especially in urban areas,) with a distinct 'dappled' look. This is the tree shedding toxins that build up in the bark. It's why they are such successful trees in London.
