Hi All,
Anyone got the blizzard conditions yet that the met office have been on about ?
U.K., that is.
Dave
overcast but dry in central London
Nope!
:-(
Last time we had snow here I lived next to a main road on a hill. Traffic was terrible and if cars were stopping, they couldn't get enough traction to get going again. I'm surprised there weren't more crashes than I saw.
There were loads of abandoned cars from people giving up and deciding to walk home!
Did anyone say snow...better be quiet since I dont live in the UK.
We had a brief flurry here in Bradford midmorning - nothing came of it though

Nothing 60 miles North of Inverness.
But it is a bit cooler :0:
A bit in Snowdonia but nothing on the lowlands
Clouds do look snow ladened now though. If I do get to make a snowman I'll post pics!
:biggthump Cool idea! We should have a competition! :-D
None here in Nth Lincolnshire.
Nothing in Staffordshire, but the weather is starting to look good for it.
Nothing in Sussex, but doing a Yorkshire/Wales/Sussex triangle over the next few days.
Could do with getting stuck on my way over the Pennines. Somewhere with a nice pub
Last time it snowed here in the lowlands (Christmas Day, 2000) we got a few inches and the kids were out till 2 am! I made a massive snowball about 7 ft in diameter - so big I couldn't move it anymore! Luckily some kids came along to help!
:biggthump Cool idea! We should have a competition! :-D
Still no snow.
And Adi, it's not all about size - style is important too! :-P
Snow.... did someone say snow..... We have lovely blue sky.... not a cloud can be seen .... and SUNSHINE
Ed
Tuesday 27th Jan, 10:18 .... no snow
When it's 7 ft in diameter, style doesn't come into it! :-D
Still no snow.

Did the same about 12 years ago Adi, (last time there was half decent snow over here)
Started rolling it, picked up all the fresh snow and looked like a thin long carpet...
only got it to about 6ft before we couldn't move it though... but we we're young whipper-snappers then.
If i did it again though, i'd shove some sticks in it , and start making a Quinzee! :)
Actually it got a lot bigger  but by then I'd passed control of it over to a group of teenagers ... there must be pics of it around here somewhere bcause it was the same Christmas that my wife got her first digi camera :-D
What is it about snow that brings out the child in a man! :-D :-D
10:47 ... no snow!

The hill road here is about to close - drifting snow. There's a couple of inches on the ground, the clouds are building over the hills and minus 6 forecast - lets hope it delivers!!

`Here's my first snow of this year:
http://www.yoxio.com/images.php?id=9796
near Clermont Ferrand, France, six day hike and as you can imagine it involved a lot of fire making
(ai, the picture is a bit big, sorry)
Well I think I can cancel that last post - heavy rain started about an hour ago and washed the snow away - bugger!!
Something about counting your snowflakes before they've landed....
:-P
Still no snow here (Hatfield) and I can even see people playing cricket on the field! :-?

Looking out of the window I wouldn't be surprised if Cambs County Council didn't have to issue sunbloc to the gritter drivers today! :-D
Dave
Been cold, clear and crisp here all day... until the last hour or so when some high cloud has started to drift in
Bring on the snow!
Well I reckon sleet is the "napalm" of the weather world. Horrible. I just had to go out for half an hour and got soaked! It sticks to you before it melts and somehow seems to make you wetter than rain on its own :-(

Tomorrow is the day i wreckon.

Yeah looking on the Met website earlier and it looked like most of the country would have snow tomorrow but not really any on thursday!
Do you think they're overhyping it a bit so people aren't caught out this time?
Overhyping seems to be the order of the day these days :-x

since last post 3.30ish its started snowing here in the Borders again. we,ll see if it comes to anything! I don,t think it,ll be up to much myself. why does the British public seem to think that everything will grind to a halt(excluding us bushy boys) when the weather forecasters say we,re in for a bit of snow? my old man is a muscian & travels to Sweden north of the arttic circle and just laugh,s when he hears people moan about snow in Britain. I bet Viking is p*****g himself at us....

27-01-2004, 18:57
You think Viking is, I am rolling on the floor here!!!! Ohh snows forcast and every one goes into panic mode, round here anyhow (18 miles north of London). I have 2 feet if all else fails. I hope it does snow, I want to see how my Impreza handles in the white stuff!!!!!!

Maybe it will come some for you too :-D
had a small snow flurry here in Bangor earlier, but nothing since, though the mountains look an inviting shade of white!
Paul

All I got here was a light dusting
just a small amount in Aldershot - not even enough to cover a car top.
Got some, but only about half inch thick. The sun is already starting to melt it away! :-(
We got an inch, but it's stopped snowing  hopefully there will be some more later

Similar here, but the untreated roads are like ice rinks - some very dicey moments cycling in to work this morning!
finally got a couple of inches in staffordshire. Here's the view (8:30 am) out my front door....

We have snow here we are snowed in at the moment with a blizzard blowing outside.
Road blocked by snowdrifts, Car refuses to start I think the carb has iced up,
Oh the joys of Winter, out this morning through the wood with the Dog made me realise why I live here.
The Deer are down off the hill so it could get worse
This is more like it - some serious snow swirling around outside, but not yet sticking
No longer can I see the hills from my (3rd floor) office window
About 3 quarters of an hour ago, there was a brief (15 second) flurry of snowflakes in London (Westminster)
Woohoo.
No longer can I see the hills from my (3rd floor) office window
Humph, the hills are back, the snow has gone :-(
The snow is falling here too... :-D

Snow's been and gone here in the lowlands of Anglesey, Wales. Snowed for about 20 mins, enough for a few snowballs and now all gone :-(
:-D Have we got SNOW try 3" in 15mins and still falling, been constantly heavy for the last two hours.
AND I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! :-D
just got back down from the hills and the snow, bloody hard going it was too. one high road impassable for me ford escort and the other closed by police. so i had to walk up  still good fun though. the dog had a hard time towards the end, had to break off the snowballs sticking to the fur between the pads on her feet. she seemed prety happy with it all still.
cheers, and.

Well, we had a little yesterday (wed). About an inch laying in the morning. Started to rain about 3pm which turned to quite heavy blizzard so that we got sent home at 3.30. My normal 25 min drive home took 2 1/2 hours. Seems like a lot of people just can't drive!
Dave - bored and back at work!
 Its melting
 But I have put a bag of it in the freezer, so that I can play when I want to :-D

We had some last night. Perfectly timed for my journey home. Leave at 5pm, rain, sleet BLIZZARD, white out in the space of 2 minutes. Never seen the likes. Only a couple of inches, but its frozen solid now. My girlfriend span her car, (serves her right should have bought a real car, one of them SMART things) her half hour journey took 2 1/2 hours!
Anyone been TRACKING ? Its the best time to see whats out locally and find out their haunts and where they live. That way you know where to look after the thaw.
More snow please I wanna go sledging.
Cheers
Rich
Anyone see the picture in the Daily Mail today? (looked at one over a hotel breakfast this morning)
Showed a snow storm blowing in over Harrogate (taken from a Helicopter). I was driving out when that came in - was watching it in the rear view mirror. Looked like something from a film.
Dorset finally got some of the white stuff last night - around 6.00pm in the south of the county.
It came in as a blizzard and although only about an inch fell here that only took about 10 minutes! It was also accompanied by thunder and lightning - first time I've ever experienced those and snow simultaneously!
A lot of it has melted away now but some areas still look great!

O.K. I got it wrong  It snowed here for a full 27 minutes and even made everything white!
I've never seen so many posts about snow. Your obsession with the white stuff is impressive. It's like kids in a candy store!
I wonder, would you guys be so eager to see snow if you had to get up early every morning before work to shovel the stuff? Especially if a snowplow were to come by AFTER all your hard work to deposit a 2ft high snowbank across your freshly shoveled driveway? :-D
I lived in Newfoundland for a couple of years and I have to say that I miss the snow, even with the drive clearing and the digging out of snowbanks :-D

" I've never seen so many posts about snow. Your obsession with the white stuff is impressive. It's like kids in a candy store! "
True - but then you rarely get to see it down here (only a few miles from the sea with lots of salt-laden winds!)
And it makes tracking so much easier!!

the snows all melted away now thanks to some heavy rain  but i,ve just been down to see the river which runs through the town & it.s the biggest i,ve ever seen it. went in my mates car to have a look farther out of town &the river has burst its banks, we came round a corner and there was the river where the road used to be  so we had to drive on,it was a bit hairy for a moment when you see water nearly coming up to the bonnet. just goes to show how misleading it can be,it did,nt look as though it was that deep, anyway i should of had a gill net with me cos i could of stuck it out of the window & done some trawling for trout mmm... cheers
