View Full Version : Lincolnshire meets?
I'm not sure quite where Lincoln belongs, midlands or north (I've always said midlands) but anyway is anyone interested in a Lincolnshire meet? I don't know of any land we can use as of yet so if anyone thinks they can get access to some that would be brilliant. I've Pm'd a few people already about a meet so any additional interest would be great.
Or are there are any existing Lincoln meets?
Thanks for your time
Regards Mike.
This would interest me
I am in south lincs and have some thoughts on land
Great :D well I have had 3 Pm's and told them about this thread so that's 5 people who might be interested.
I'm right outside Lincoln so anywhere travlewise is normally good for me.
Yep interested. And have land access.. but have a baby due in the next couple of months....... plenty of woodland around here though if anyone wants to meet for the day
This is sounding promising.
Rob
Well the land I had in mind is not appropriate because:
1) the access to the woodland is through a feild of relitevly 'fresh' cattle
and 2) it doesn't belong to the person who I thought it did, even though it's in the middle of his field.
The land I had in mind is woods not massive but half mile from home
its owned by a community charity and thay have said free for use by anyone any time
Sounds promising :) so how big is not big?
im in if anyone gets anything sorted. i, like pignut, have a baby due this month but i would love to see something get going in lincs. i'm in sleaford. as has been said, there's loads of woodland near me too

Good luck mate!
How about a meet somewhere local to us all (if that is possible) for a bimble.

That sounds good, i'm only up the road from you.
Rob
i'm in lincoln stuck with public transport though so i'm fairly limited
I am only 25 mins from lincoln... Is a lincoln meet a possibility for everyone?
Anyone know any area aroind there
Hi, I'm out at Grimsby if anyone is near by?
Right then we need:
1) To know for definate what land we are going to use.
2) A date?
3) A rough estimate of numbers.
4) Possible lifts for those using public transport?
Have I missed anything?

Sounds about right.
Rob
I'm stuck with public transport at the minute but would like to attend. Are you looking at this side of christmas?
I'm booked up weekend wise this side of christmas plus it would probs be a bit short notice for most. Plus we need to know for sure what land we can use before we set a date. For now though probs best to leave date setting a week anyway just incase any more people show interest. I'll probs be bringing a friend with me so that brings our numbers to roughly 7 thus far.
Sure I will be bringing 2 or three folks
Thats ten...ish :D If we can get this sorted this could be quite a good evening. How does mid-late Jan suit eveyone. It will give everyone time to recover from christmas/ new year so saturday the 14th, 21th or 28th? I know someone said they can only so alternate weekend.
Good luck mate!
cheers mate :)
i probably won't make jan as i'll have a newborn but definitely after that. and anywhere in mid lincs suits me.
Ok well we can see what other people say and go with a date that suits the majority and if it all works out and providing we can still get land access I can't see why we couldn't have more meets.
Is there a scout camp we could hire anywhere? The one they use near Manchester (middlewood) is quite cheep.
There used to be one just out side Grantham, but i would'nt know who to contact.
Rob
I think there is one somewhere around Sudbrooke near Lincoln. I think I went there years of when I was in Cubs but I can't find it now. Does anyone know of it?

Rob
Thinking about it, i know some who is or at least was a scout leader, i'll speak to him.
Rob
Found it what do you think? There's an OS map reference and map just above the pic of the blue tent.

Yeah I agree, cheap enough and open all year too.
Yeah I agree, cheap enough
Those are 2005 prices, but don't suppose they will have gone up to much.
Rob
i third that. looks promising fellas.
I'd be interested, Lincoln is only down the road for me,
PREPER............. :)
where you at prep? i always thought you were in manchester for some reason
Could be interested as live other side of Melton from Lincoln but not clear to me exactly where any meet might be

20mins from Lincoln :)
say no moooore. ;)
harb, you go for it mate if you're happy to make the call. it would be nice to not have to drive to brum every time for a meet :)
Evening folks. So i'm thinking before I ring the site warden I best have a rough estimate of numbers.
8 People have responded to this thread and I will be bringing 1 or 2 friends and pignut will be bringing 2 or 3 so that's a maximum of 13 thus far.
Any advance on that?
(Can I see a 13 at the back? Yes you sir in the blue any advance on 13?)
Jan is not brilliant with me, I will also have a new baby in the house
Ok well how about I ring tomorrow and enquire about using the site in feb with roughly 20 people give or take?
sounds like a plan buddy :)
sudbrooke's nice not very big but most of its wooded and its nice and quiet, go there a lot with my scout group but never sort out the fees etc (cub leader does all that). they allow ground fires in certain areas too
I went there probs about 13-12 years ago (back in the day) I can remember doing shelter building exercises and seeing the instructor give up lighting a fire a whip out a lighter to still have no luck and I'm pretty sure I also woke up to a water logged tent.
Right folks. Sorry I havn't contacted the warden yet (Been busy and then went camping in the Peak District found out that my gortex boots are usless and my bivi needs a very libral coat of a nixwax type product). I'll call tomorrow and then we can dicusss our options.
Well I called the Sudbrook site warden and she told me that the site is purely for youth groups. So back to square one :(

Oh well - thanks for trying

She was whingeing to me in April how nobody else was using it as well hypocrite that she is. There's a place near market rasen called linwood warren that might work or there's another campsite near laughterton but the name escapes me I'm afraid
Well if anyone has the phone numbers of other sites or knows for sure where we can find land that would be brilliant.
I remember staying here (http://www.suttonscouts.org.uk/campsites/search?q=P&n=23) when I was in the cadets a fair few years ago. If this is ok for people I'll call tomorrow, see what they say?
Linwood Warren - http://www.highropesadventure.com/index.html
went there a few years ago bit more expensive than suddy but just as nice and its a private company so should be ok for us to use
I've called a couple of times and left a message but nothing as yet. I'll try again tomorrow.
I've just spoken to the lady in charge and she said we need to contact her again in the new year, she will then send out the forms and take it from there.
Sounds promising. I look forwards to hearing if we have a spot :D

Hi just joined bushcraft Uk, I'm in the middle of Lincoln and sleaford and would definatly be interested in a meet somewhere local.
Thanks Joe
Right them folks. Happy new year!!! I appologise for my month of absence I've been busy and also had my head stuck firmly in the clouds for a week or two. Any news from anyone regarding possible sites? Stevied any news from your end?
Hello again and happy new year.
Sorry its taken so long, I've just spoken to the lady again and she is sending a booking form out. The cost is £3 per person per night with a £12 booking fee, no minimum numbers. I'll put up all the bumpf when it gets here. Also I've had to provisionally book the 16/17/18th of march as all booking forms are sent out numbered for a date but can be changed/cancelled if need be. If anyone would like to have a look round before booking a warden will meet and show on request.
Thanks for this - cannot do the dates - already away for big parts of last two weeks in March. Have to give it a miss this time.
The dates aren't set mate, just a starting point as I had to give a date before she would send the forms out and can always be changed. Each booking form is numbered apparently.
ahhh - ok - thanks for clarifying - doesn't take much to confuse me these days:confused::)
So who is still interested/ reading the thread?
Yip:D
Quote of the day:
"Bless you Pignut!!!!! Big knives ROCK!!" (Robevs73)
Well I'm out of ideas, tried all of the local spots suitable and no luck :(
I'm not sure how likely this meet is to happen but I'd be interested too. Even just to socialise with you all, would be nice to pick up and learn some skills. I'm at RAF Digby.

I would love to be involved.
Anybody interested in a couple of weeks at the beginning of September?
The site's lined up, just need (probably) a couple of dozen people. Come and go as you please, but I need at least somebody there each day for the whole two weeks.

Hello to all you Lincolnshire lads :-)
I'm based in Nettleham Lincoln. Been looking at the chat and know most of the places your talking about.
I spend plenty of time out in the wilds in the peak district and out and about around Lincolnshire.
It would be great to meet up with some local like minded people.
Would be pleased to hear from you :-)

Hi All,
This thread has been going nearly a whole year i think and we are no nearer it seems. Just a thought. Why not start simple by just meeting up? Pick a pub say south Lincoln, i am thinking Navenby (no i don't live in Navenby) as a sort of Central Lincolnshire venue, or Lincoln itself. Then a night. Say Last Friday in August. And a time say 8pm. And lets just meet face to face have a drink and a chat and then start to see where we go from there.!!
What do you say?

Hi Guys - I live in Waddington - Just South of Lincoln.
I'm in, and can also help with transport to where ever if needed.
Im also a Scout Leader in Lincoln, so Sudbrooke is our local site - I also get on reasonabley well with Liz (The site warden) so could always have a word if you want.
I have no idea how I missed this thread - wish I was involved earlier - maybe could have helped a little more :)
Regards,
Mark :)
