New Year – Comrie Croft
Having spoken to Toddy this evening I’ve decided to plan a New Years meet at Comrie Croft (with Toddy’s help :) ) …the dates being Friday 30th through to Tuesday 3rd Jan. I spoke to Andrew at Comrie earlier today and he had kindly reduced the camping fee to £7 per night instead of £9. He is also looking into the availability of the hall which, if free, we may hire. If this is the case we would ask everyone attending to contribute to the cost, as we did at the last meet there. If we can’t use the hall then we can use the barn but that will also be open to others staying there over the new year period.
It will be a casual format with everyone fending for themselves food wise apart from the evening meal on Hogmanay when we could all help in a communal feast to bring in the new year….more about this nearer the time. Even a casual event takes a bit of organising and Mary and I cannot do everything so other helpers will be needed…so don’t be shy…put your name forward. As usual the biggest task is firewood…apart from that it’s just the general running of the communal camp set up. I’ll make a list of things that will need brought along & things that will need done to see who can help with what.
I will need to leave on the Monday so will need someone to wind things up on the Tuesday…not that there will be much to do. Please add your name below if you’re interested in coming along and for what dates. If anyone has any questions / suggestions please get in touch.

warthog1981 should be there for the duration :)
I have always wanted to spend a new year in Comrie and visit the Flambeaux Procession. (fire festival)

It might be a good weekend to spend some time in one of the Katas with the family , i will have to run it by the wife and kids before i can commit to anything .

Russ...Didn't think you'd miss a New Year meet at Comrie. I picked some sloes for the first time yesterday so hopefully something will be ready by then!
Be great to see you and your family there Craig. I've not been to the fire festival but might head along this year...Comrie is 2 miles from Comrie Croft...not too far to walk...or drive if you're not drinking but get the feeling it might be tight for parking.
Catch up soon... Vince
I like that idea.
Put us down provisionally for it, depending on our shifts over Christmas and new Year.
If we can make it we're happy to help out anyway we can :)
Cheers
Ness :)
Hmmm I'd love to go for the duration.
Thing is, every Hogmany I do a huge buffet for my local Masonic Lodge and have done for years.
I'd pass on it but it's a good earner for me and you never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Especially when that's what I've put in the sausage rolls! :D
Liam
We were aiming for Hogmanay, the New Year, Ne'erday and a couple of days afterwards, thinking that if the weather's good folks might come up even for just an overnighter and wish folks the best. Chill out in a beautiful place with good company.
If you're free after your Masonic do's bye Liam, come away up and join us :D
V'ness, I don't know if the rooms in the Lodge are going to be all booked, but you could maybe see about a family ensuite room if that'd be easier with the children? They were brilliant in the Kata though :D
cheers,
M
I will be up on Friday 30th and leaving on the Monday morning .
Jen and the kids will be coming up as well and we have booked into one of the Katas for our stay .
Craig.......
Brilliant way to bring in the New Year :D
cheers,
Toddy
A lot better than sitting in the house watching TV with a couple of drinks . :)
Craig.......
Toddy, we've been considering investing in an all season canvas tent with a stove. Just so we arent so restricted to only good weather camping with the wee ones.
This might be a good trial :D
Cheers
Ness :)
You have no idea how hard I'm praying third time lucky :D
1st one, Russ had a wee mishap with an axe :yikes:
2nd one, we had -17degC and two foot of snow :hatscarf:
This year's going to be brilliant :D Isn't it ? :beerchug:
Sounds like a good set up Nessa, especially if you'll get good use out of it
The bell tents are incredibly practical family space.
atb,
M
Just a wee BUMP to see if there is anyone else that fancies a new Year getaway at Comrie Croft .

We'll all show up at some point
I'll let yi know nearer the time
I was looking at Comrie crofts website last night and noticed that Camping with your own tent is closed till march 1st ,while the katas will be open all winter .

I gave them a phone this morning to ask about new year and the camping is open for anyone from BCUK that are heading up there for new year weekend .

might try and bring my wee boy for this one Craig. Are you booked into one of the tepis?
I'd love to come but I'm committed here with my Fiancee and the first proper break we've had together this year. I'll have a scout around for some logs, we're not short of fallen tree's at the minute. Someone mentioned walking to or from Comrie for the Flambeaux, I would strongly not recommend this. The road and in particular the straights either side of the Croft are used by the local kids to race along at v high speed. I met one kid belting along at a vast rate of knots without lights on a crappy dark night! Enjoy and I'll see what I can do about some wood.
Thanks for the advice about the boy racers mate and any wood for a fire at this time of year is always appreciated.

i will be there on the friday and leaving on the sunday drew
Good to hear you can manage it Drew .
I was talking to George from Comrie croft the last time i was there and he did the walk one year on the farm tracks well away from the main road so it might not be to bad , i was going to walk the route the day before just to make sure i don't get lost in the dark and after a couple of celebratory nips.
Hi col , we are booked into the kata in the bottom field , we will have the stove on the go most of the time so if you want the wee man can have a warm up when he wants.

Hahahaha , i know what you mean about the earplugs ! I'm afraid i will be stuck with them for a good few years yet . the age difference might be a bit much and my youngest is broken again (13 and she is on broken left arm no. 5 ! )
You and yours are welcome in our tent anytime .
Craig.........
A wee shameless bump for this one so anyone who hasnt seen this post can plan for new year, come along and meet some old friends as well as some new ones and Comrie croft is such a lovely friendly place.
I tried and failed, she's roped me into going out with her mates on the lash, then for a curry and back to ours for a bit of a party :(

Rich i thought you said she doesnt get out a lot drinking wise, if so, wont she be too hammered to notice that you sneaked out the back door and driven 300 miles up the road to be where you belong, in the Scottish Highlands, bringing in a Scottish Hogmany. Hope you have a good time this new year mate and maybe catch up next year for a wee trek somewhere....
Just found out that the wifey is even coming up for an overnighter with the wee man as well, i will be up for the usual 3 or 4 days glamping, looking forward to seeing some old friends and Comrie is a place that i have come to love, hope everyone thats thinking about coming up, just goes for it, the more the merrier..

Yeah defo mate, get Chrimbo out the way and then I'll see what's on. Have you got anything planned?

As usual i do everything on the hoof mate, but if you want a nice trek we can sort something out like the birks of aberfeldy then up onto urlar moor and back down, but i know dozens of nice walks, so we can easily get something sorted for the type of walk/distance you like Rich.
Been out walking 3 or 4 miles most evenings lately in training for my lands end/john o'groats trek next year, but it must be an age thing cause i swear im getting slower and fatter lol...
Sorry for the thread hijack....

Drew
Hi Drew , there is a parachute set up in the lower field with a wheel rim fire pit in the middle with plenty space for everyone to sit around .

There is plenty or space in the woods for camping and hammocking and you can have yourself a fire there if you want , just keep it to a reasonable size and don't cut any of the standing or fallen trees . there is firewood available to buy from comrie croft or Colin might take the landy for a drive up the hill to pick our own .

I should be arriving at Comrie Croft around Midday to early afternoon tomorrow. Hopefully someone will already have the fire up and running if not i will get it going. Looking forward to this one, a pleasant change from spending new years eve in a pub with hundreds of other people. see you guys and girls there.
Not even sure whos going to this one as i have just finished packing most of my gear for the trip and cant be bothered trawling through 6 pages of comments.
Just a wee final BUMP for new year at Comrie croft , Me and the family will be heading up for Friday lunchtime and staying right through till Monday morning .
As usual there will be the parachute in the lower field with its fire circle to sit around , also i have the makings of a big pot of soup and for Saturday night i have some haggis, neeps and tatties (both veggie and normal)
So if you are at a loose end on the 31st pop on over for the night and have a dram round the fire.
P.S. we will also be requiring a first foot or two !

You guys never DID get around to mud wrestling LOL I am rather proud of my spoon(s) freshly carved by my own fair hands. I left having met some terrific new peeps, had a giggle with some of the usual loonies and managed to keep the dog from eating the hens (just) .... AND I was not the only lass there, Cols lovely wife joined us for night 2 and Annie for night 3.
Highlights of the long weekend ......... I got to see Cols wee lad make mud angels he gave me a cuddle and I found out he REALLY likes bananas, I danced a sort of punk version of scottish country dancing with charleslockerbie at the flambeaux, and I also seem to have gained a SON in Drew Dunn Respect:lmao:
ONLY on a BCUK meet .... right ???
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!

There are quite a lot of trees down on the site from the last wind and with all the rain they have had makes some of the big healthy trees fall.
Luckily we were home before the wind got up so had no problems traveling apart from some snow on Friday coming over the ungritted moor road from Braco .
