Hiya, Im off to Epping forest (Essex) for a couple of days and a night. I'll be sleeping in my hammock, and will probabley avoid having a fire, (Theyre funny about that sort of thing  ) I dont drive, and will be going by train. Just wondered if anyone had any locations in mind, or things to look out for while im there -- Any suggestions really.
If anyone has any ideas, PM me. Id really appreciate it. :)
Thanks guys.
There a large campsite run by Newham council on edge of forest, Debden House, Pryles Lane, that allows fires on its site and open straight onto part of forest. However I have not used site this year. Will look for phone number.

found phone number 0208 508 3008, Debden House Camp site
That's your best bet Millbilly you aren't allowed to camp in the actual forest they're quite strict about it.

Cheers for the info guys, much appreciated! Ive never been very big on campsites-id rather have a bit of solitude, and besides, i dont own a tent! I suppose i'll find a couple of trees around the outskirts of the campsite, suitable for a tarp/hammock.
I really should pick up a tent, it would give me more options-I once saw lightweight nylon Lavvus for backpackers, but wouldnt know where to get them in the uk (any suggestions?). Like i said, cheers for the info guys. :)
Debden Green is a big site and you can usually find a nice secluded wooded area away from most of the other campers. :)

I must say, its quite encouraging to see people from all over essex posting on here-id quite like to get together at some point, for a short one nighter (ooo-er! )
Well a couple of essex lads from this forum set up a group for bushcrafters in the south east they meet up reguarly for weekends down in Ashdown forest they got quite a few members now I have been meaning to get down to a meet but keep missing them think it's all quite official now. There's a big thread on it here somewhere called Ashdown or something.
Or rather there was a big thread on it but it seems to have disappeared! Perhaps bambodoggy or someone can enlighten us...

:) I can indeed, I asked Tony and his team if they would delete the Ashdown thread on here after a vote at one of our tribal councils and they very kindly did so for us. :)
We do all still meet up there every other month but due to being litterally swamped with new people wanting to join us, we have had to regretably make the events invite only. We don't want to stop anyone from joining us but on the other hand we don't want a group that is so large that we might as well be at the Glastonbury festival lol. :D
Each member may bring a guest if they wish so if everybody did then we'd have well over a hundred people on site....not ideal for a quiet weekend in the woods I'm sure you'll agree despite the size of our pitch. I believe Shinobi, Maver and a few others are trying to set up a meet in West Sussex seperate to the Ashdown Group so I'm sure they'd be happy to have you guys along (as would we if and when our numbers settle down a bit :) ).
We asked for the Ashdown thread to be removed so that it would slow the trickle of new members to a manageable size....which is sort of working although Paganwolf has far too many friends for his own good! lol :D
Hope that makes sense to you all....if you wanted to ask anything else then please feel free to pm either myself or Paganwolf.
Cheers,
Bam. :D

Gave 'em a call at debden house, and a kind of plan is coming together.
Getting the train to debden green, then the bus to debden house campsite. Fires are allowed, and setting up a hammock and tarp is no problem, as apparentley theres lots of trees around the edge of the campsite. Im also told that debden green campsite is in the middle of epping forest, so lots of exploring, and practising of various skills during the day (ive got loads to learn! ) Now what i need to do is get some time off work. Im probabley going to go on a sunday afternoon, relax around camp that night, and spend allday monday exploring and head back Monday afternoon, ready for colege and work on Tuesday. If anyone wants to join me, or has any ideas/suggestions/advice, please PM me. It'll be the first time ive gone somewhere other than Havering for a while, and im quite excited about it. :D

Yeah, i just started. Studying photography, something ive allways fancied doing. Still have to work in the evenings though, which is a bit naff. I dont get much spare time.
Still, im sure it'll all be worth it. :)
Looking forward to my trip, Epping forest is a magical place.
