View Full Version : Halloween Meet - With a difference!
Hi All.
This year I'm looking at arranging the annual Halloween Meet at Bowley Scout Camp (http://www.bowley.org.uk/), in the Ribble Valley.
This is for a couple of reasons:
Drew has arranged his bithday bash at Middlewood, and I thought you guys might like a change of venue.
Bowley offers us the chance to do "Big Boys Toys"...so I'm looking to make this a challenging / adventure training weekend.
Activities could include (number dependant as each comes at a cost!)
Archery (1 hour / £25 per 10 people)
Pamper pole / Leap of faith (1 hour / £30 per 10 people)
Jacobs ladder (http://www.bowley.org.uk/activities/on-site-activities/72-jacobs-ladder) (2 hours / £60 per 10 people)
Low ropes course (2 hours / £60 per 10 people?
Basic camping would come in at the usual £5 per person per night, with a donation to Help for Heroes (http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/) built in.
So, just a show of hands at this stage please....who would be interested?
Simon
I could be up for that Simon.
Not much room for hammocks and might be a bit windy if we're in the same spot as last time though.
Yep Im interested in anything in this area!

WICKED
What kind of usually goes on on these halloween gatherings?
If i have rough numbers i might be able to knock up a couple of pumpkin pies or soup or something if anyone is interested?
Dave
Not just for scouts is it?? Good to get back into that area. Used to live on edge of Ribble Valley in the past so would be good to join in.
What does happen on these meets? I only managed one and got there late afternoon so only enjoyed the night's entertainment round the fire. I am sure it is not all gabbing around a fire with some beverage in your hand?? Not that there is anything wrong with that, really enjoyed the banter myself.
Anyway if you do sort it out with prices and dates, etc. then I think I might try to make it. Last weekend in October I think I can make. Would be good to meet some local-ish people from this site.
Well Pumpkin carving , drinking , eating Pumpkin based foodstuffs , some more drinking , swapping skills ideas and stories are all things that have happened , as well as night attacks by , zombies , wizards and starship troopers too ;)
hi does anyone know what sort of ground this is, is it woodland? or grassland? cheer just trying to sort out which kind of shelter to bring .
Some trees but not many.
Hammocking is not the best option.
Think field with hedgerows.
cheers wayland will get some poles made for a shelter

What's a pamper pole? :dunno:
its what is sometimes called a "leap of Faith" on a high ropes course , you stand on a small platform on top of one pole and leap to grab a large plastic ball suspended high above the ground ;) dont know why they call it a "Pamper pole" at Bowley LOL
New thread started here (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81321) to tidy things up a bit!
Simon
Drew,
Which meet are you going to? Northwood or this one? Are they not on the same weekend?

it may well be ;) all I know is that some of the scouts cant half make the pole vibrate as their little legs shake before they jump :D
