Pack your moot kit NOW! Move it separately and keep it all together. You'll not be giving a talk to people you don't know. You know them all from here. They are just a bunch of friends you'll be meeting face to face for the first time. When I do demos and talks, I just treat it as if I'm talking to a bunch of mates. Works for me.

Good sound advice and it works for me as well. :)

The other thing to remember is that everyone there wants to be there to learn which is a great help as well.

And will be hanging on your every word waiting to pounce on the smallest slip up you make. :lmao: But that's a good thing... right?

I'm sure you'll be fine though, justlike Eric said you know us already, just not to look us in the eye. Sadly I won't tbe there this year and I so wish I could. Maybe next year. Have fun chaps and chapeses.

Biker how comes not? Are you worried about meeting up with John?

I've not started and won't until a few days before! As it's my friend ben, steve and my two ex scouts coming with me in my tiny Prius I'm having to buy a roofbox. Cheaper than hiring another car though...

Mostly that reasoning. I've seen some pictures of him and I have my reservations. See what I mean this is him at last years looking for Tesco's

http://www.diseaseproof.com/uploads/image/CAVEMAN.jpg

Actually it's a combination of being double booked and a slight cash flow problem and the logisitics of getting there. Think I might book a ticket next year to Portsmouth early and just worry about the details later once August 2012 rolls around.

I ordered (I believed!) FM tickets in march, now it seems payment did not go through. Unfortunately unless I come up with some money somehow I cannot afford them now! I may just bite the bullet and pay from credit card though... I'm waiting on confirmation from Tony before I do that though.

Tony
23-07-2011, 11:11
We can't find the payment, sorry about that. As a FM there will be no issues of you not getting a place at the moot if you can make it, so don't stress about a place.

Thank you Tony, Looks like I'm back in business! My boss is insisting I have a break away and is fronting the money up! Subject to conditions of course... I work two days of my holiday. No prob!

First thing - DON'T PANIC! If you do forget an essential, there'll most likely be someone with a spare to loan to you. We're a caring, sharing bunch.

So, you'll need:
Something to sleep in/under (Tarp or tent etc)
Something to keep you warm at night (Sleeping bag or blankets or both)
Something to sleep on (Kip mat or hammock)
That's you accommodation sorted

Clothing:
Stuff for when it's hot
Stuff for when it's cold
Stuff for when it's wet

Next, Food. Stuff you like and will actually eat.
Breakfasts x10
Lunches x 10
Evening meals x 10
Snack food
Brew kit of choice.
If you make the lunch menu easy it will free up time for other things (Pot noodle type of snack comes to mind)

Cooking gear:
Stove of choice
Fuel for stove.
Pots, pans, plates, mug, KFS.

Then there's tools.
Sharp knife of your choice
Folding pocket saw
Firesteel (or matches/lighter)
Axe

Personal first aid kit
Any medication you need

Towel, soap and shaving kit

Cleaning stuff (brillo pads, fairy liquid etc)

Favourite teddy, reading material, MP3 player etc.

Torch/candles.

Money.

That's all I can think of as essentials. Add any luxuries as desired.

See you there.

Eric

ill print this out and use it as a check list, then when i desperately need something that i dont have, i can blame you for it not being there! :lmao:

Just a bit of advice re the food side of things... the moot site is only 10-15 minute drive from a large Tescos and there's also a Lidl's close to it as well.

That means you can do a couple re-supply runs for fresh things if you're so minded

As Eric said, if you forget anything essential at all there's bound to be several people who can help you out with a loan. Failing that you'll always be welcome round other peoples fires to cook up your food :)

excellent thanks, 10-15mins drive sounds like i wont be putting my mountainbike in then to nip to the local shop, which i had wondered about, tho maybe could do with lidl?

ive got as far as hauling all the camping stuff out to think about seeing whats what and been stung by a wasp in the meantime

..... and been stung by a wasp in the meantime

Whereby hangs a reminder... the site has a number of wasps in residence - sting cream and repellant would be a reasonable addition.
as would;-

a camera
notebook & pencil
sense of humour, patience and willingness to dive in...

Maybe others to add later on
