i would guess a rail as well.

hey, P7--i noticed your avatar...Sir Winston is supposedly my 7th cousin (or so). our family (mother's side--Krause) married into the Burtt family (English) in the year 1600...

does this entitle me to a castle or knighthood or something? a free pint?

You deserve several pints for that!!!!

I'll go with juvenile Heron. Although I reserve the right to change this if I'm wrong.

Coot?

too late in the year to be a young heron, they breed very early.

obviously a young velociraptor.

The feet look sufficiently huge for me to guess coot. :)

The beak's not too clear in the photograph - it's not cormorant length is it?

Hmm all the sensible answers are gone, so i'll vote for ostrich.

Although i wouldnt be surprised if it tuned out to be a coot or other watery bird.

This is a hard one :o the birds wet so the coulours are all wrong and i can't quite make out the beak but I'll put my mone on warter rail as well. Knowing the habitat your in that would fit quite nicley

you could have put a beter picture up kevin :p

As Leon-1 pointed this out

Just a little one for you, if you "save picture as" in your thread on what type of bird it is, it asks if you want to save it as "Water Rail".

I thought I would put up the answer :o

i wonder how many of those who got it right, had sussed that out

It is indeed a juvenile Water Rail. Below is a picture of an adult I took during the winter.

Well done to those who got it right! :D

Hmmmmm...mixed feelings

Feel pretty smug that I got it right just from looking at the picture, early on, and not being into birds.... :D

Feeling a numpty that I didn't think of the "technical" solution, or even notice it when Leon posted

Oh well
