You can fish in the river down from the bridge on the ogmore for free with no licence at all and of course the sea.
If you want to fish for the trout in the river that goes along the outer edge of the woods you need to get a permit from ewenny angling in town for 20 quid. I used to be a member of the ogmore angling association you see.

Nice part of the world for a passing bass :)

I see beachcasters being recommended above. Do you fish from the headland? I was only thinking of bringing a small spinning rod for the estuary and perhaps ledgering for flatties if the water's still tidal that far up. What kit does everyone recommend? I've not been before so I can't visualise the place.

Not been myself to the very spot.... its a popular venue though.

Spinning rod and a light bass rod should be plenty (if you have the latter). You could always fish the beach to the right/mouth of estuary- one in, one out.

A bubble float and a few redgills would be well worth chucking in the box. Its prime bass season so they will be around that area. Also smoothound, flatty's, ray, mullet off the top of my head.

Is it worth bringing mackerel gear - are they this far up the Bristol Channel, does anyone know?

Mackerel cooked over a fire a few minutes after being caught: Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

They catch them off the deeps, a mark just up from the estuary.... So, its possible!
