Howdy,
I just joined. I've checked the site a couple of times now looking for tips didn't realise all this was here, excellent. A lot of interestin stuff.
I'm having problems gettin my bow drill kit working consistently. I've made a coal a couple of times using a lime drill and a willow hearth, but it's a bit hit and miss. Once I get it smokin good and proper I give it a bit of welly and the cord starts to slip. Spendin too much time knackered and dissapointed. Any tips would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hey - welcome to the campfire.
I'm currently practising my bowdrill as well - generally when the cord slips with mine, it's because it isn't tight enough. But I'm not very strong, so can't press very hard anyway, which would be another reason why the cord might slip - if you're overdoing the pressure.

Welcome
Sorry I can't help with your question. Match would be the person to ask. Have a look at the Scottish Meet Up thread. You could come along and get some hands on lessons.

It is meant to be for youth groups only so it would be interesting to see how you explained that in the booking form. Unless you are planning on having lots of children at a stag do
A warm welcome to you :)

Cause I work as a ranger and I explained what we'd be up to he seemed quite happy that we could spend a night.

If you are working as a Ranger you will may know Stuart Chalmers. It was him who got us permission to use the camp.
