View Full Version : Carrying the firesteel
Does anyone has any good idea how to carry the firesteel along with your knife, I have tried tou use a inner tube on the sheat but ended up with one less firesteel =(
i have stitched a strip of velcro round my shieth and it holds the fire steel very well its also attached to a loop of para cord for hanging round neck and shoulder if needed which is wrapped round before the steel is strapped by the velcro
i had two new sheaths made for my knives take a look at this site top work

Some nice stuff there, were either of the sheaths with the firesteel holders yours? How much?
yep the mauser it worked out to Ģ68with postage both ways thats for two the same :-D
Viking why not stitch a leather loop onto your sheath - its easy to do.
Dampen the leather before stitching and use a contact adhesive to make sure it stays around the sheath.
Those who saw my wildfinn Puukko at the wilderness gathering will know what i mean.
I have modyfied my sheat to my S1 and it works great, but have not find a good way to make it work with my other sheats.
Gary, donīt you have picture how it looks (need som inspiration =)

Wrap your sheath or knife handle in paracord and attach the firesteel to the loop?

Unfortuntely i dont have a digi cam - it was something santa forgot.
Sorry guys
you could always put a small bit of para cord with a small clip then have another loop through your firee stick. clip these togeather when your carrying

I use the inner tube trick, but quickly discovered that two were needed. With just one piece of tube over the kydex sheath of my F1 there wasn't enough grip and the tension in the tube would push the firesteel back up. Two layers of innder tube make it harder to push the firesteel into place, but the extra tackiness/friction seems to grip solidly. Mind you I've also covered the handle fo the firesteel with bright yellow tape......
If I'm not using the F1 then the firesteel lives in my tinder pouch..
Cheers

Put a lanyard on yer firesteel, and tie it to your belt. That way if it drops out of the inner tube, you don,t loose it

I have made a firesteel holder now, going to test it this weekend to see if it works. The image quality is bad I know...

Viking, Is that knife around your neck a Lapp puukko?
Is it a different sheath for it?
one more question.....Can i get another sheath for my puukko?

I donīt think itīs the Kellam Lapp Puukko, i bought it from a swedish version of e-bay. It says Lappin puukko on the sheath and on the knife.
Maybe Stuart can tell if its the same or not...
A better picture of the knife

Is there a purpose to that flare at the tip of the sheath? :?:
No, itīs very common among sami sheats. Why itīs there id really dont know...
Looks like a handy ice scraper for the car windscreen! :-D
Hmm no not a lapp puukko, but almost identical though this is not unusual as the lapp puuko is just a traditional design used by the Sami
the flared bit of leather at the end of the sheath is for holding the sheath still when drawing the knife whilst wearing mittens
to hold a fire steel cut a section out of an old bike inner tube and slide it over the sheath.

I have figured it.......all you need is.....
Araldite (strong super glue)
Leather strips
Cord
Make a tube that the firesteel fits into, then glue this. Add a loop to the tube to hang off your pouch. When dry, simple thread some cord through the loop, and hang it onto your pouch. If the hanging irritates you, then just glue the tube onto your sheath.
