I've been looking at the vast range of drinking chocolate powder available, I usually carry a tub rather than individual packs. I do like army ration stuff and sometimes I make a mix of cheap stuff. What is your fab brand or recipe?

For that pure taste of luxury on a cold winters day... Green and Blacks :)

Good 'ol Cadbury's with some mini-marshmallows just makes me grin from ear to ear!

Try your favorite mix with an actual square of milk chocco or two in next time, but it has to be piping, and stirred well.

I'm a sucker for the Galaxy sachets, the Bourneville ones in hotels used to be nice too but you don;t see many these days.

The ratpack ones were tasty too but they all got drunk donkeys ago

Ohhh yeah ;)

http://www.alcoholfree.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=2_25&products_id=94

they do a smaller one thats about £2.50, and i think there's 2 or three in the range.

Keep your eye out for the gift pack they do over chrimbo, it has 4 or 5 variety's of chocco (10 bars i think) and each bar size is perfect to plonking in the drink... now i'm getting carried away LoL!

Swiss Miss (individual packets) ease of preparation, good flavor. The powdered milk is already mixed in, just add to your Crusader cup of steaming hot water.

Abuela (a Mexican chocolate that is a bit different, but quite good if made properly, according to the instructions.

Hint: 1/8 teaspoon of chili powder to two cups of milk gives a cup of hot chocolate a very good flavor. It will not taste like chili powder--just different but good. Try it sometime, you might just like it!

At Cub camp, we always give the little horrors hot chocolate before bed (spoilt they are). A couple of years ago, on the last night of a weeks camp we ran out:yikes:, we had a billy full of brown liquid that tasted like dishwater.
One of the mums that was on camp that year said no problem, bung this in and pruduced a large bar of dairy milk, it still tasted like dishwater. Another bar appeared, still no good.
Some Galexy turned up, then more. A couple of multi packs of Mars bars went in and by this time we had a brew that was thick and very chocolaty. One of the cubs noted that it tasted a bit different, but the adults loved it.
Not recommened if you are lightweight camping:D

Cocoa powder is good if made properly. You have to let it thicken though.
BTW Green and Blacks is owned by Cadbury, it's their luxury range.

I drink mostly rat pack hot chocolate as I get it free, but for shop bought ones, I used to love the Lidl stuff. Sadly they no longer sell it, so I have to use Cadburies hot chocolate.

Cocoa powder is good if made properly.

Coupla tsps cocoa in a mug, ½"-¾" of condensed milk, top it off w/ boiling water & stir well. Mmm-mmmmmmmmmmm. Multiple yummifications!!!

Chocolate Ovaltine is nice too.

Gotta be Rat-pack choc!
Preferably with either a shot of rum or (non-alcoholic) Maple syrup!

My favorite is proper Cadbury's make with hot milk, hot chocolate. If milk isn't practical and I have to use instant make with water stuff then my preference is Galaxy.

Well I have a collection of about 40 rat pack choccys including some orange ones. :P

But when those run out Ill be drinking cadburys sachets.

The hot chocolate packets you get from the Big Blue hotel in Blackpool - without doubt the best thing ever in the whole town.

It is the sole reason for going back there to do work..........

Hmm G&B drinking choc is wickedly delish, must say though i'm a big fan of ovaltine! they do a "Light" version you make with water, touch of milk in there and its the ultimate sleep bringer on a cold night by a fire.

I like Mexican-style hot chocolate mix. It is spicy and wonderful. A lot of it comes in tablets which require grinding, but some comes in a powder. It all requires milk, so I use powdered milk. You can jazz up regular hot chocolate with vanilla, cayenne pepper, nutmeg, and cinnamon if you want to kind of get the flavor.

Rat pack choc is great but cannot beat

with lots of evaporated milk and sugar or sweetened condensed milk with some sugar all topped off with brandy :)

Don't laugh, it's very good.
Heat up a wee carton of Alpro soya chocolate in my Ti mug if I'm camping and it's excellent:D
Sprinkle with real cocoa powder and a add a teaspoonful of Cointreau if I'm at home

It just works :approve:

cheers,

I've often thought that Montezuma's milk chocolate with nutmeg would be nice done that way. Hopefully Santa will bring me some more. Chilli in the cocoa should be nice too. yum, yum, yum. :D

I second rat pack choc. I wouldn't choose to drink anything else when out camping. I find the other stuff like cadburys/mars/malteasers etc too watery and you are left with far too much sediment in the bottom of the mug!

And then Cadburies were bought by Kraft, yuk.... but whilst the ethics may not be what they were the choc is still good.

I find all commercial drinking chock has too much sugar and too little chock for my taste so I mix it 50 50 with G&B cocoa powder. Rat pack chock is just neat sugar isn't it?

one sachet of chocolate horlicks

one over generous slug of brandy

drink then sleep

or at home 100/200ml warmed milk
two spoons whittards dreamtime chocolate
half bar little bar galaxy chocolate
brandy (for me not lisa or shan)
slug of baileys makes an interesting mixer

Sleep

mind you any hot choc is good if its got brandy in it

Coca powder
Powder milk
Chocolate angel delight

Well, Nido is made by Nestle so it sould well be the same stuff.

I got in from work the other day and pulled a tin of Milo out my bag. "Wow Milo, I haven't seen that since I lived in New Zealand!" says mum.

Aldi's own. Big jar for a quid and it's better the Cadbury's in my opinion. Doesn't leave sediment in the bottom of the cup either.

Cadbury's for me, we have a drinks machine at work and I'm well in with the girl who orders the replen for it so I get the odd pack or two now and again. Empty the contents of 2 of these little cups into a mug and fill with hot water. Perhaps when feeling a bit devilish I'll add a splash of Mint Liquour for that added zing.
