Ok, so we've all got these wonderful new matchcases, but filling them with Swan vestas leaves a big space.

Does anybody know a source for long strike anywhere matches or are we all going to have to think of something to fill the gap with?

Cotton wool for tinder :)

I found some that are slightly longer called Titan, but you still end up with a little gap.

Yeah, cotton wool is what I'm using at the moment, I use it on just about anything that rattles out of habit.

I know you are supposed to leave a small gap for safety but where do you get these Titan matches from?

Good question, I have had them lying on the sideboard for a long time now, I'll see if I can find them again down town and let you know :)

OK, I have just e-mailed the Essex Match Company who make a range of strike anywhere matches to find out some information from them, if and when they reply I will let you know what they have to say.

They make "cooks matches" in a strike anywhere version.

Cheers Martyn, have you a brand name or make that we can look into :)

I would recommend stuffing the cotton wool on top of the matches instead of placing a wad at the bottom of the case....you want no chance to have a high riding match head scrape the bottom of the plug when you twist it.

We sometimes have to trim our Diamond Strike-Anywheres to fit these cases, but Keith advises against carrying anything in the case that could make a match ride up or jam....

I always twist the plug holding the case pointed away from my body too, early life experiments with matchheads and pipes convinced me of their powerful capabilities. :D

Not sure of the brand name, but the box looks like this (except this is a pic of the safety version)...

I know you can get long matches for lighting church candles and so on, but are probably more expensive. the Cooks matches are probably about 1/2 inch longer than Englands Glory.

There are plenty of places selling long matches though...

I looked at some of the cooks matches today, they are about the right length but all I could find were the safety type.

Thanks Martyn, I'll have a blast through there in a while and see what I can see.

Wayland, I know the feeling, I have done something similair looking through the cooks matches for strike anywhere versions, for the minute we'll have to see what the ones Martyn has posted are and what these other people that I have contacted have to say.

Hopefully one or the other will turn up a match which is ideal for these cases :D

If you put "matches" into a google search you get an Ebay advert for "new and used matches".......you really can sell anything on Ebay :D

I think they are made by the Swedish Match company.
