Does anyone know of a good place to get a traditional fisherman's style wooly jumper ??
Preferably not an edinburgh Wool Mill £80 job.

The Norwegian store up in Keswick in the the Lake District. I got a Janus jumper there a few years ago and it's superb.

Woolovers make a lot - British wool too.

But also look at the country styles as the suede patch huntin shootin fishin styles are quite practical too.
Not strictly a fisherman's job but this http://www.fifecountry.co.uk/PRODUCT_DETAILS.php?pid=1315&cid=25 might be worth a look and is cheaper than some and Hoggs of Fife stuff is usually pretty rough.

The missus knits and I HAD a beautiful cable knit jumper. Really warm and I loved it. Unfortunately some varmit came and nibbled holes into ALL our woolens stored in the eaves, my jumper was one of the casualties :'(. Now she will only knit small stuff for the kids :(

Funny that - I pulled one out of my drawer yesterday that my mum knitted and I never wear. PM on it's way.

I recommend charity shops. If they don't appeal maybe these could fit the bill. I don't have one but have been tempted. they appear to be very good quality and value.

You can't get rid of a jumper your mum knitted. :nono: I gave one knitted by my mother in law to a charity shop once and lived to regret it. :yikes:

My mother is not sentimental - ans she knitted one that suited me better shortly thereafter. This one wasn't even knitted for me - so all good.

Look for Guernsey sweaters - especially from Guernsey Woollens. 'The' traditional fisherman's sweaters. Usually in dark blue, but are being made in other (more 'bushcrafty') colours too. Very tough, mostly windproof and surpisingly water-resistant. Not as warm as a thick cable-knitted sweater but those are too warm unless you're just standing round, and aren't windproof at all. Highly recommended.
These guys do great jumpers - the big cable jumper looks fisherman style http://www.jackrussellclothing.com/Mens/Casualwear/Knitwear.aspx

My Sou'west chunkie arrived today from the above link, great people to deal with and the jumper is fantastic, made to measure, I'm gonna call it tailored !! :) Really thick, really really thick, great quality all over, just been out for a 20 minute walk in it (minus 1 here) and I was warm as toast, brilliant value for money £22.00 !!!.....go get one !!
Jumper Heavy Wool, any Army Surplus Store. Green, thick and should only be a few quid.
