Hate to admit it, the parang is something I have to try out..

Knife, not my thing, but looks capable...

I quite like them both as tools, still not convinced about the orange logos though

I like the parang, and for the price, it's going on my list. The knife looks quite well thought out for all the Bearnannigans it'll be used for. I take back all the rolling eye smileys I gave it originally.

I like the look of both of them.
Assuming I can get to the Moot next year, I might buy them and bring them especially
:D
The knife looks very sturdy, thicker blade than I was expecting, the horizontal carry sheath is interesting too.
The parang looks good too.
They seem like decent tools for the price.
The parang could almost certainly be rehandled fairly easily.
Does anyone know where any of these are available ?
thanks

The knife will go on sale in October. The rest will be available next February when the new series airs. I should imagine that most stockist like Heinnies will have them as they will sell like hot cakes.
Thanks Jonathan - what sort of price are we talking? I noticed a couple of references to them being good value.

The knife will be about £50-£60. The Parang £40-£50. Maybe less, as the price in $ is the same.
hmm - I'll look forward to some reviews! Thanks again.
I still thinkt that I would not touch one of those with a novelty sized barge pole. The parang looks capable but the aesthetics make my eyes bleed. The knife is not so bad, but I know from experience that gerber serrations are shocking, and I am suprised they have not learnt from the number of requests to make a LMF II without the serrations. I will not buy either of those untill the action man logo is removed.
they will sell like hot cakes.
My thoughts entirely.

You gonna be stocking them then?
Yup. I have a Gerber account anyway so I might as well.
Anybody got one yet :) Come on fess up.
I was having a look around but not seen them on sale yet.
I had a play with the knife a few months ago and it didn't feel too bad, a bit gimicky but it felt solid enough.
will they be any cheaper on a group buy regards dave

Been released in the States but doesn't look like they've hit our shores yet.
That's because the UK importers aren't getting them in until spring for "CE marking reasons".
Which sounds like a load of old cobblers to me. I've looked at all the blades I sell and own and not seen a single solitary CE mark on any.

Gerber dealer margins are very poor, so I'd have thought not.
The parang thingie look to have some possible purpose, I am going to order one and give it a go. They are supposed to go on sale in the USA in the spring, for less than $30. Sounds fair. I hope to have it in time for a course I signed onto in Utah, 2011, I will give it a good workout.

Thats funny, Bore Grills & Garbage knives go together so well. i still don't know if this is a joke video or not!!!
I hope the cheap Parang is better than the BG knife. I just read a bunch of reviews on Amazon for the knife and it seems to not be well made. In fact, it breaks easily and is made in China. The knife is not at all something I would like, carry or use. The parang looks like a decent chopper for a cheap price though. I still plan to get one of the parangs, even if it ends up in the garage.

Well about the BG parang, I don't really see it on my hand. Traditional parangs, kukris and other tools like that have so much history and a big amount of knowledge is put into the forge of one.
For example, these tools (the tradional ones) don't have full tang. Why? Because it sucks on this type of tool. You want to cut something big? Go 4 it but if you use 3 parangs all equal except the tang (one would be full tang, other stick tang and the other a partial tang) you would see that the stick tang and the partial tang parangs would deal great with shock absorving while cuting a tree or something else and without breaking the handle. Other thing is the selective quenching that makes a big difference how a knife reacts to everything.
Common let's face it, the asians used those tools for centuries like that and it never failed why change it? And they use it for everything (building houses, in the kitchen, skinning animals, open new roads, even digging holes in the ground).

IMO, Parangs & Goloks both make far better slashers than they do choopers :D
Kind regards

The new knife is getting very bad reviews across the board. It seems to be cheap and not at all full tang, with the pommel falling off due to it only being held in to the end of the thin plastic handle with two small protruding pins.
