View Full Version : Carbon steel and rust.
Just noticed a bit of rust on my clipper even tho i take good care of it..
Best way to maintain a rust free blade i asume is with a oil but i could be wrong, any help?

Just keep it dry with a light wipe of oil.
yup, i use oil every now and then but i don't scrub the blade clean of any patterning from use, so after a while it develops a pateena, and resits corrosion a bit better imo.
remember to store it outside the sheath when not in use. Occasionally the odd sprinkle of silicon gel down the sheath helps.

Continual usage works for me!

Use it and get an authentic patina on it and it'll be a little more resistant to rust. Tomatoes, vinegar, mustard - go for it ;)
Apples... eat an apple a day and always use the knife to core the apple. Once you've finished eating the apple rinse the blade under cold water, no detergent needed. If after a week you don't have at least the beginnings of a nice patina, you're eating your apples too fast ;)
