Does anybody know a good link to a table with the following information (or similar):

A list of 'main' types of trees
Pictures/descriptions
Uses for carving etc
How they burn

Basically I want a resource to teach me the uses for different types of trees, and how to recognise the main ones.

There are some really good descriptions of trees, including identification, biology, burning, charcoal, uses of timber and historical information on the excellent Royal Forestry Society website at: http://www.rfs.org.uk/ . Look under 'trees by species'. Hope this is of some help.

Here you go Biddlesby. A couple of nice tree sites offering just what you want.

Probably the most comprehensive:

the-tree.org.uk - British Trees, native & introduced (http://www.the-tree.org.uk/BritishTrees/British_R.htm)

Includes native and non-native, about 130 trees.

british-trees.com - An Introductory Guide to Native British Trees (http://www.british-trees.com/guide/home.htm)

Good info and photos on all 33 British Native Trees.

That's great, thanks. I'll make it into one big table.

I'd be interested in that table too when you do it! I think many others may also find it useful! Cheers!
