Looking for a decent bag, problem is I'm 6ft 6" or 196cm as i measured in work today (as you do!)

really like the look of the Nanok range, but most bottom out at 195cm, other than the Endurance SF 0C which measures 200cm, 65 squid and looks good value for the money.

only thing is its fairly heavy at 1800g.

I'm still not sure if i want down or synthetic, hammock or bivi so open to suggestions if anyone has the same predicament.

VFM, performance and weight x length i seem to be struggling to find.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

TBL.

The Woodlore bags should fit you, they are 225 cm long overall (just measured my Osprey). Weighty though.

Thanks for that Jonathan, i noticed they are also Nanok... maybe the general measurement is from shoulders (or rather neck) to feet on all the range?

I just assumed it was the total length of the bag, inc hood.

Could anyone clear this up please :) they do a rather nice Comfort Down 0C at 1200g, but its 195cm.

Thanks again for the advice.

I had a Nanok Endurance 0degreesC and it was slightly shorter than the Woodlore versions without a doubt.

Ah... that could save an expensive mistake then LoL!

Osprey seems good VFM, might have to look into that.

Its not easy being a tall fella, but i rarely loose me mates in the pub :)

Thanks again, al.

That's handy to know, thank you.

I'm 6'6" too and I have a Snugpak Travelpak Traveller which claims to be 220cm long, and really does seem to be so. It's very comfortable but only a Summer/indoor bag without thermals or a liner or both. Very compact though.

I also have a Snugpak Navigator which also claims to be 220cm long and I can't get the hood on without it feeling like it is trying to compress me. Last Winter the only way I could comfortably keep the top end warm was to wear a hoody to bed which, as it turned out, wasn't that bad, but still less than ideal.

I'm only 6'5" or 196cm (=77.165") And I use a Marmot bag in XL. I also use a golite quilt which copes with comfort temp of -7C supposedly as I've not tried yet. That is also XL. The Marmot is good for 6'6" but as a I'm 1" less I think that is underestimating it. I can put my arms inside the hood folded and still not touch the foot end. By my reckoning it is almost good for 7'6". I got it cheapish from Outdoor Warehouse in Windermere and online. A good source of golite and marmot and montane stuff BTW.

You do have to be careful with length as someone who used a synthetic for years that was standard and only realised why I got sooo very cold feet was that I was compressing the foot insulation because I was fitting myself into something too small. My other problem now is that the larger sleeping bags have a wider girth and I have yet to develop that despite trying my hardest with food and beer. That is partly the reason for switching to a quilt.

Can I suggest that you look at the PHD website. They do simply the best down sleeping bags and are soon to have a sale on. The preview is online now. They sell off sleeping bags that are between their standard products relatively cheaply for what they are, high end kit. The Minim 300 is a good bag to have for most of the year IMHO. You can get the XL versions for a little bit more. These are all ridiculously light for what they are as they are meant for UL backpackers and alpine style climbing where weight is very much critical. Perhaps the Nanok is more Bushy though but thought I ought to mention PHD sale as they are such a good make and some on here are into light gear.

Thanks for that paul... some intersting reading!

'Can I suggest that you look at the PHD website'

would you have a link for this please as i cant seem to find anything.

Just had a look at Outdoor Warehouse and the Marmot range and although it looks good, the style/range is limited and the price is slightly higher than i have available at present.

Is this the special forces one? I bought a Snugpak Softie 6 via ebay and it's nowhere near long enough (6'4").

There you go Big L. However if Marmot at Outdoor Warehouse is pricey perhaps the PHD stuff even in sale will be above your price bracket. Worth checking anyway. IT is really good stuff though, worth putting off a purchase for until you do save money. I sometimes think a delayed purchase until you can get something truly good can be a wise option. Its what I've started to do.

If you do look at PHD and decide to buy one then there is often an option to buy the longer sized ones but IIRC it only comes up once its been selected.

Thanks again Paul...

My budget is around the £200 mark, but i'm debating going second hand via fleabay to save a few quid, and end up with the same product (being its in good condition and has been looked after/hung properly).

i'll keep an eye on the sale, see what comes up!

Must have been looking at varous sleeping bags for at-least 3 hours last night, i really didnt realise there where sooooo many but i'll take your advice and go with the brand names mentioned me thinks!

Well, just for reference, a used PHD Minim 300 went on eBay on Tuesday for £138 + postage. Considering a brand new one is only £145 in the PHD sale, for that at least, you might not make such a saving

No worrys fizzy... and thanks for the reply.

I'm pretty savvy with prices, so if it works out negligible, i always go new.

I've seen some items on ebay go for more than retail, which always makes me larf, and larf!
