tyring to find some info about Bushcrafting in South-Wales as regards to meets (fee or free) craft fares and recommended couses/providers. i notice there's lots of events on the calender as in moot's, weekenders ect so i may just skip the course and learn first hand from fellow bushcrafters. not shure.
looking at building up some kit over the next month or two and then a few solo nights out, autumn/winter reading and then a spring summer out as much as possible!
I'd like to hold onto the thought of summer presently, but it aint looking good :p
cheers for any pointers or advice, TBL.

be grateful for just some general advice.
TBL.
As for courses try Dryad Bushcraft based on the Gower, they are putting on a bushcraft day at Margam Country Park, Port Talbot. Next week on the 25th, only cost is the entrance fee to the park which is about £3, Hope this is of help.

Cheers for that hiraeth... typically I'm studying for exams over the next fortnight, but i might see if i can take a few hours out to pop down.
I'll also look into Dryad, as i spend alot of time down the Gower, which is a very nice part of the world :)

Just go out and do it! best way to learn, Started with ex army kit and a pot noodle in Wentwood forest. Now im swinging from the trees in my hammock and eating bushcraft gourmet meals in Hereford. Loads of helpful people on here, with the ability to answer any questions or point you in the right direction.
All the best

Hey, there's worse places to live than Talywain. I just can't think of many right now ;)
Well, Trevethin of course...
I'm a bit to the south in Griffithstown, but tend to get up your way. I got badly midged around sunset today on the Blorenge, as unusually, there was no breeze at all.

LoL :)
I didnt realise you got the dreaded 'midgies' south of scotland till i moved up here!
and i've heard trevethin is 'a warm and friendly place' rich in 'character'
(just pulling a leg if anyone's from that way ;) )

Sounds interesting dave... I know nice remote spot not too far from me, and can offer secure parking (10pm locked gate and owner lives on site) if anyone fancies a small meet/overnighter.
wont have kit for a few weeks, but after that i'm good!
I'm not the worlds best organiser, but i can offer the parking and somewhere not too far on foot for a camp (wooded council land, lots of old campfires, as remote as you get)
see what happens from this...

if there is a meet going give us a shout I'm in ynysddu, next valley over from dave

From the weather forecast it could be mellow but wet and windy as well. Like a fool, I'll be there anyway.

Both the weather sites i use for fishing say 2-7mph SSW's which are ideal for the location... Water-wise, the forecast has changed from showers 1pm sunday to 10pm saturday since i checked yesterday. But....
Like a fool, i'll be there too! :)

Weather wise, it actually worked out better than predicted holding off till 1.30 am before we had any noticeable rain,
and then boy did it make up for it!! but everyone stayed dry, and it settled down just as we where leaving after brekkie.
The river gives you a clue to the ammount of water we had overnight...

Top company, everyone mucked in, brought something to share and it was generally a very relaxing and informative night.

Thanks guys for a great trip. Glad that we all survived my mushrooming, given that I'd never eaten Amethyst Deceiver before! As soon as I work out how, I'll get some pics of my own up.
Al, you need more credit for your cookery. That wasn't bushcraft food, that was cuisine!

Pleasure mike... Old habbits die hard in the cuisine department!
(and it was lighter than 3 tins of spagetti bland-bol) :D
I have to admit, you are the first guy crazy enough to pack a bakestone and hoyk it a mile up a sheep track, but fair play those scones where worth watching you tun varoius colors through-out the journey!
goodjob

Just to cap it off, when I got home and stuffed all my clothes in the wash, I realised that my cheapie Asda torch and my mobile phone were still in my trouser pockets.
The phone is now drying out and the prognosis is very uncertain, but the torch was completely unfazed and works perfectly straight from the machine. In fact it actually got switched on whilst it was being washed, so there was an odd light show. I'm quite impressed for a £2 torch.
Not as bright as others on display last night though.
