Just thought I'd stick some snaps up of our last evening out...

we had planned this a good week in advance, and myself & Guv had nipped up to the site for a poke around, and get a feel for the place. as I hadn't been over there since my teens. we found the place quiet, and peaceful, the perfect spot (well enough out of the way so that we wouldn't be bothered by anyone, mainly as as it's so much of a pain to get to!)

once we had got our kit together, and locked the car, it was time for the off!

and finally we make it to our campsite!

while I'm no Ray Mears, I've been spending nights out in the open for years (I'm also into my Astronomy) and Wayne too is a keen Bushcrafter, and is no stranger to things, but it was Guv's first night out under canvas for years! fair play he did well for a first time out!

and Guv's *creation* ....

despite being a pinewood, and having a week or so of drying out a lot of the wood was in bad shape, and it was only down to Wayne's amazing firebuilding skills that we got things going!

Yup, it's Holy Island, I used to row across the Inland sea to get there as a teenager (my folks house is on the opposite side from where we were lol)

the pics are down to Guv, though the penultimate one I took of him lol

I learned to kayak in the inland sea near four mile bridge. We used to go down to cymyran beach too. I'd forgotten that there's nice foresty bits down that way.
I was passing Dulas beach the other day; I remember foraging in the woods there as a kid. Nowhere to leave the car now though.

I grew up in Capel Gwyn - between Bryngwran and Rhosneigr - before moving to Caergeiliog, and in Bangor now. I miss living in the cuds.

it's a 5.11 PUSH versipack... Mexped stuff is damn near impossible to find around here :( added a few pouches in the Molle - condor pistol mag pouch- just the right size for my leatherman surge! a condor ipouch, fits my iphone and bits ect.... and a TOPs small pouch, which I just keep full of things I need regularly/quickly.

I carry it on me pretty much everyday, but it's dual spec', weekdays it's flash drives, netbook, and lunch - weekend it's stuffed full o' shinannery ;)

picked it up at SoF a couple of months back, best buy I've had from there!

just been checking the website http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk, but it looks like they aren't selling them at the moment :(

I have found them here though , which is a good tenner cheaper than I paid for mine ( P&P might bump it up a bit though!)

http://www.polimil.co.uk/acatalog/5.11_PUSH_Pack__39.95.html

this is as it comes 'out of the box' so you can see where my pouches are :)

http://media.midwayusa.com/ProductImages/Large/134779.jpg

it easily fits in an AcerOne netbook, and a lunchbox, and leads, and a book, and a couple of cans for my weekday carry...

the side pockets fit a Yukon NVMT Spartan nicely- it's like a damn tardis! though it was designed for the US concealed carry market, there's a zippered back pocket with Velcro inserts to take a pistol system... fits my DS and notebook just as well though! :D

I want a 5.11 Rush 72 for use as an outdoors go bag. My Mongo is reserved for other uses. I nearly went for a Kodiak but I've really gone off the singe shoulder carry thing. It gets painful after a bit.

I've seen a rush 72 up close.. they are VERY roomy and there are more loops for Molle than on most assault vests... it's a bit bigger tahn my needs tbh but an amazing backpack! :D

There's nowhere to try out this stuff round here though. The Rush 12 would be ok for my edc but I want something better equipped than my crappy 45l pack and more versatile than my Vulcan.

if you're around Corwen way sometime, nip to SoF - we do a lot of 'try before you buy' there, it helps to actually get a feel for the stuff rather than the facelessness of online shopping....they have 5.11 rush 24s and 72s in, if you like it you can always hunt one down online cheaply then :D

I'd forgotten that SOF were up here. Thought it was only a warehouse. I used to order from them but the p&p is extortionate. Might have to go see what I can see after payday.

It was a good trip! Rained quite hard all night. At one point the rain was going sideways under my tarp and into my face. Thank goodness for the bivi bag. I just pulled it over my head and relaxed.

I can't believe you went while I was in Englandshire visiting the folks! We will have to go again asap. This bear needs to get back out into the woods real soon... :)
