View Full Version : Larger Knife?

I have been thinking for sometime about getting something a little larger for playing about with, plus around these parts there is the ever present threat of zombies so it will be a dual purpose tool!
But basically something with a little "grunt" but at the same time very usable.
I have a couple of F1's which I like, a BcUK by spyderco which suits me and I do use an axe ALOT (I am a chippy and regularly use my Estwing "professionally" & I have a wetterlings, so I do know my way around an axe and would ALWAYS use such a tool for chopping) and I have a CS Kukri machete.

I now fancy something to bridge a gap that now appears, something like an S1 I know have their fans and have always liked the Spydie Forager and I do like the idea of something Nessmukky......

Your thoughts on the above knives or any other reccomendations without spending daft money!

Cheers!

Marc

How about a nice sized leku?

Tried any Frost/Mora knives? Lot of knife for your money, typically £2.50-£20 depending on model. Very well respected.

If you know what you want, you can have it made by a custom maker.

Not cheap but what about a Fallkniven A2?

Loads of possibilities mate to fill that size gap between your kukri and F1 ;-)

Try a Fallkie A1. It's surprising how it performs beyond it's size without being Rambo-like.

Thanks for the replies chaps!:D

I looked at the A1, and I do like falkies anyway. I'm giving it some serious consideration
I have thought about a custom too as I will end up having a custom L/H sheath done anyway so sooner or later the cost will go up a little. I was going to get a custom made bushy later in the year if i can raise the funds and i have enquired to the guy I'd like to do it about a pair..........................

Might put some stuff up for trades and see if anyone offers me something tasty!

Can you still get a seventh back from the tax man?

I use it for work, honest :)

Might be worth a look at the Kabar, seems to be the large knife choice.

I know several makers that could make you pretty much anything you'd like...but as for production knives, if you are looking at an A1 here is another vote for it. I love how mine handles, the edge geometry is excellent, and it chops like a bigger knife than what it is.

I have been resisting buying this large knife for some time now. It doesn't look 'bushcrafty' but looks like a mighty fine tool: http://www.heinnie.com/Knives/Fox-Knives/Fox-Trakker/p-92-142-1019/

A Cold Steel Trailmaster would do the job. Not much more than the Fox knife but tough as hell. That or the A2. I would like either of those personally.

I have actually glanced at this one before actually, looks good and usable b'locks to how it may be concieved;);)

The trailmaster has also been recommended by a friend who knows his onions as a serious bit of kit..........

I am favouring an A1 or similar though the more I look into it

If the trailmaster is too big (is that possible???) then the CS Recon Scout is pretty good apparently. Seen YouTube ups if it in destruction tests. A lot of knife for the ££s.

To be honest, I'm not a great fan of CS knives............its very irrational as I have owned a couple and still have the long hunter which is an excellent light use campknife.

I like my fallknivens though!

I like those two too. Tactical bushcraft knives are cool.

I have a very nice Kukri, made in Nepal 2003, issue type I believe that would fit the bill.

Not expensive either.

Failing that, check British Blades for Variant 13 designed large Bushcrafter made by Stu Barker. I have that as well, VERY good knife and design.

Cold Steel bushman bowie, really cheap, very sturdy, great for bushcraft and handy for a horde of zombies :)
