View Full Version : Hello there...
I have always been a great fan of outdoors and bushcraft and came across this site while looking for some intresting reads on bushcraft, tips etc' for my site which I have set up http://www.thinksurvival.com
The site basicly takes the same role as this but dedicated to the great Ray Mears, who I belive most wish to follow his footsteps some day.
I first got into bushcraft from the relaxing landscapes and sounds a great forest produces, and is really something I wanted to become more specilised in.
Thanks. :)
Welcome Mutley, you will find peope here who are not soo keen on ray and his ways but im not one one of them hes not the be all and end but hes someone for whome i have a great deal of respect and admiration, your site sounds interesting *goes to have a look*
jump on in to BCUK im sure you will find a lot of interesting people and information here and that you will have much to offer also!
What is it that people arn't so keen about Ray and his ways? Never heard this side before. :)
my statement would probably be more correct if i had said woodlore in place of ray. view some of the old treads on he last serise.. you will see what i mean but its probably a topic best left in the archives.

Hello and welcome. :D
It may well be that he's methods are not the only one on this earth and there's more than one way to skin a rabbit or cat or whatever. :)
Another thing, may well be that some people are eating everything he teaches and writes about raw without thinking for themselves.
Immanuel Kant: Sapere Aude.
Don't get me wrong, I like watching his shows, whenever i'm at my grandpa's (who have so many channels) and gets to control the remote. But I've got many other people whom I've got a great if not greater respect for.
:)
Aha, I can't say I'm much of a hardcore Bushcraft person yet. I hear about alot of other people who really make history with it, I see Ray as one of those people in the future, where he really sets the message like all these other people do.
Woodlore I don't think much of, it is just a company and like all companies only really want profit. Brighter days to come I feel. :)
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
Welcome to the fire. Its good to have heroes. i am not a member of the knock Ray brigade. However i can see he is a tv personailty and not a god. there are many highly skilled people out there. some would make good tv personailties others not. Ray has made a good living by doing what he does best. Bring bestcraft to the masses.
Welcome abaord Mutley.. good to have you here. Any questions you have please feel free to ask :D

Welcome aboard. Ray Mears has done a lot to publicise Bushcraft and has some very knowledgeable and entertaining books and TV programmes which I have enjoyed but like many others here I would agree that there are many other "wise men" that aren't as well known. Many of them are on this website so join in, enjoy and learn.
Who are these "Wise" people on the forums you say? :)
I admire Ray, some don't just someone a favour over other bushcrafters, I think telling the world is a great thing.
Welcome Mutley and good to have you on the forum, nice little forum you've got yourself.
Most of us also admire Ray and think that he does a great Job of promoting bushcraft, he surely knows his stuff and he is, generally, highly thought of on bcuk. As are all the competent instructors that we know, which it must be said is quite a few of them.
So, that's the feeling about it here on bcuk, now we can return this thread to a 'welcome to the forum' thread and leave the 'who like's who and why' conversations for another place ;)
It's good to see that you've got stuck in, it's the best way and the guys and girls on here are fantastic so if there's anything you want to know, there's likely someone that can point you in the right direction ;)
