I've started whittling woodspirits (just for fun) and was looking for a proper blade, came across this kit.

What are opinions on this fellas ?

Is there a cheaper alternative ?

Or, do i need just one knife ?

I have a 4 knife set in a roll which works well
I find I only use 2 of them really. The bigger, stronger one for most of the time and the really fine thin blade for the small spaces.
Handles work well too

Those are both good knives and will come carving sharp. If you want to kick it up a couple notches, though, I'd suggest something from Drake Knives. (http://www.drakeknives.com/new_page_38.htm) Absolutely top quality tools. None better, imo, and I have a bunch to compare them to.

And maybe the best bargain in starter kits comes from Little Shavers (http://www.littleshavers.com/BegKit.html). Each tool will be hand sharpened by the owner of Little Shavers, Rick Ferry.
