Looking to invest in decent base layers for this coming winter, has anyone tried out any of these brands? I have read here http://www.mikaelstrandberg.com/ that termo is about the best you can get, but its not easy to get a hold of.

A bit late maybe. Just a thought, how often do you travel in siberia? Do you need underwear that lets you work in -50? Or will they be too hot for the british winters?
Mikael Strandberg is/was a great writer and traveller, if you can find his books in English I strongly recommend you read them, they are very well written and have awesome photographs. The movie -58 is a great one, truly inspiring. However, he is a convicted wife beater. That's right, he has, on several occasions beaten his ex-wife and fellow adventurer Titti Strandberg, and was sentenced to involuntary mental care and heavy fines. Should he the treatment stop prematurely he has to do 4 month in prison. According to early reports in the media she was close to loosing her life at one time. So what has this to do with underwear? Nothing really, just gossip. Puts another dimension to his books and his film though.

I've got some ulfrotte base layers, very comfortable, very warm.
I rate them very highly.
big_swede,
thanks for posting-got me interested and I started reading about this -58 film!
johnnytheboy,
have you considered one of those Dutch 80% wool HH fleeces from Endicott's? Use a thin base layer and the fleece as a middle thicker wool underwear? It has a full zip so you can cool off. They come in chest/height so maybe try a cheap Grade 2 out.
