Anyone got any advice on planning a 2/3 days bike ride with an overnight or two along waterways ending/starting in the North East Wales (Llangollen) area?

I've found http://www.waterscape.com/map and it looks like the canals from Llan branch down either to Newtown or over to Nantwich/Chester or over to Staffs...

problem is I've not done a long jaunt on a bike before and have no idea of how passable said sides-of-waterways are, or if they are crumbling away into the canals! Or of what is reasonable sort of mileage and best route to pick...

Anyone here able to advise on towpath conditions, mileage/assumptions for planning, or the best (scenic!) routes to take?

Cheers

I've walked the Llangollen area of the canal and it is in perfectly good nick. Cycling the Pontcysyllte aqueduct should be a pretty hairy experience! As far as I am aware you can cycle most towpaths since the popularity of canal boating has meant that they are generally kept well. The people to talk to are the BWB.
