Is there anywhere you can purchase semi finished knife handles?
So a relatively unskilled type like myself can make a "sort-of" custom.

Not sure about semi finished handles, but you can get precut slabs fromplaces like Brisa (http://www.brisa.fi/start3.html) maybe these will help
Don't know of any stores that do them but I'm sure someone on BB would finish a knife for you up to the stage you require.

I have some walnut and might still have some cherry or some spalted ash that i can cut roughly to shape for you.
Nothing with a particularly fancy grain pattern but it's here if you want it.
Do you have a design worked out or a blade to work from ?
Stick or full tang ?
I'm working on my first stick tangs right now and will be trying to get cutting some walnut for the handles this week so let me know if thats any use to you.
(Might be my first and last stick tangs as they have been a PITA so far :()
If you want something fancier then buy it from Brisa and i can cut it with the band saw if that helps.
