View Full Version : Sussex Meets?
I keep looking for a meet in Sussex but can not seem to find one. Is there anything going on regularly in the West Sussex/East Sussex area? I have been looking for a group of people to go out with on a regular bases but can not find anyone. If there is not one then would anyone be interested in doing a weekend soon? I have found a few bushcraft friendly camp site, that should be pretty empty at this time of year; I have a link at home to a web page that lists campsites where you can have fires & remember there was one not too far from Brighton that sounded good.
as far as i know there arn't any regular meets:( but i would definately be up for a meet up soon! i have a mate who mite come too, tjroots (he doesn't come on here much). try asking lamper too, we have been trying to organise a meet too but it hasn't happened yet.

Thanks for the reply, which is pretty much what I figured. I am getting my car back on the road soon and feel like doing something in 3 or 4 weeks time. I will see if I can find the details of that bushcraft friendly farm campsite that is north & a bit east of Brighton from what I remember. I will see if they have any space (which should not be a problem this time of year) and are open then see if we can arrange for a bunch of us to meet up.
Not a meet, but if you ever fancy a bimble gis a bell, always nice to meet up with other like minded people

im up for regular meets:)
I wouldn't mind meeting some like minded folks.
Ok so where is everybody in relation to me, im near Shoreham, can see a few people around Brighton & Hove from the profiles, sounds like we need to get something sorted out, either a good days bimble or if we can find somewhere a meet up for a few days.
Hi all.
I am happy to host a meet at the Forest Knights main site near Arundel.
Date will now be in June I am travelling to Japan to teach Bushcraft from the 13th May so will not be around to organise anything sooner.
In return for camping and burning my wood it would be nice if we can complete the odd project during the weekend.
If you would like to attend date depending please add your name to the list below:

What you want doing Wayne?

I haven't really decided. Just got home from running the BCUK first aid course.
Some extra seating would be nice.
Also I would like to create a few new examples of debris shelters.
What would you like to achieve during the weekend?

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for the offer - I'm up for helping out and learning along the way!
Let me know what sort of days you're looking at, I know that I'm busy the first 2 weeks of June (not that in anyway should stop you from having it then!).
Joel
Count me in as please.
I was in the process of trying to find a site and Wayne has saved me the hassle! Cheers buddy! :You_Rock_

I wondered where you two have been lurking!
I would be up for that. I think I saw what may have been the forest knights in action as I was coming back from a walk on Saturday; saw a parachute, hennesy hammocks etc.. looked too fanncy for a homeless camp. I would have popped in to say hello but I had to meet a mate at Avisford Park over the road to do some 'rabbit management'...

The tents and hammocks belonged to the BCUK crew on their first aid course.
If you're in the area this weekend pop in for a coffee. We are running a bow making course on site.
I forgot to add I am glad we didn't look like a homeless camp.

Sorry about the above reference, I hope I did not offend. It's one of those woods I walk around from time to time & about a year ago I saw that there was a few basic shelters covered in builders tarps. When I metioned it to a mate he thought that it was a group of homeless people living in the woods. When I saw it the other day I remembered that, hence the comment above. You have a good setup there by the looks of it. I am getting back into archery again & want to have a go a field archery, so was thinking of going to meet up with the ratpackers over the road some time soon. I should be around over the weekend, so will try to come over & say hello as it's not that far from me.
You will learn that I am not easily offended. :D
I have been leasing the land for about 5 years.
I can pm you the contact number for Andy who organises Ratpack Field archers.
That would be great & I will hopefully get to meet you at the weekend. Dave
hey,
its getting close to june, this still all happening?

I'm up for it. I don't get many weekends off and can't offer anything much than graft, but I'm up for it.

Looked on twitter, i think Wayne is still in Japan, or on his way home
Yes, I would like to get something regular going in the West Sussex area, or not too far away. Any dates would be great.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to Bushcraft, but willing to learn. A meet would be great.
Guys,
I have found a spot on the South Downs where a small group could camp - in the Wild sense.
I'm gonna scope it out this weekend, but Stanmer Park has plenty of "opporunities" as well.
Let me know.
nice work lamper :)
let us know how it goes ;)
TJ
Sounds good to me. It would be good if Wayne got back to us as they have a nice setup there & it's just down the road from me. I would like to have a regular once a month meet for the Sussex BCUK people but getting somewhere to do it is proving hard.

TJ - If you are up for it, come with this weekend. It will just be me and my mate, very chilled.
Good luck with the camp over & hopefully it will be the start of something good. I have asked half a dozen people I know that own woods (usually farmers) or have access to them but it is always a confused No, especially when the word 'Fire' comes up. I will keep on looking & hopefully will find somewhere of my own to play in & have a group of regulars over when things are established.
lamper where is this place youv found?
pete
between Sussex uni and Lewes - or even Stanmer park.
Looks like a few interesting woods around there, image coutesy of MultiMap (not sure if we are allowed to post such pics??)

Neumo, did you get my PM about dates?
Yes, got the PM & replied to it; neen busy so sorry for the delay
Lamper: how did the weekend's scout go? Did you find anuwhere good. Hopefully we can hear from Wayne soon to see if there is anything happeneing there.
Only walked it, didn't camp as the England game was on.
The place on Plumpton ridge is good for about 4 tents and be secluded.
Stammer park is about the same.
I spoke to Wayne at the weekend, who is a nice guy and has a good setup in their woods. It looks like they are more of a business with paying customers attending various courses, with a few open meets every year so may not be suitable for a regular (monthly?) meet by Sussex based BCUK members. I will have to keep on looking but a quiet bushcraft friendly farm campsite may be the best idea to get things going.
I might be able to help with a spot soon, currently in negotiations with a landowner for camping & shooting rights, keep you posted
any news kepis? fingers crossed:)

Got a meeting next week - fingers and anything else i can think of crossed
Hi Kepis, is there any news?
I got use of the land, but not for overnighters at the moment, working on that one at present, just need a bit of time to develop the relationship up and build that all important trust with the landowner
Good luck with this. I will keep on trying to get somewhere round my way but it is not easy. Maybe we could all get together at a bushcraft friendly campsite? Having been camping at the Moot I now have a taste for it & want to do some more locally.
there's always Blackberry Wood, not that far away, bushy friendly, fairly cheap but at this time of the year packed full to the gunnels, prob best to wait until Autumn/Winter to get in now
i would be up for blackberry woods
pete
I would definately be interested, work permitting. Providing a relative unknown and inexperienced person would be welcome, if not....I understand.

theres alway the wild heart gathering in spring and autumn.
google it is near chelwood gate(i think)
it is rather full of dope smoking hippies though
Looks like we are making progress & a first meet at a camp site sounds a good way to get started.

I'm in the Brighton area, and would love to pop out and have a camp with people. Did anything come of all of this? I can just pick a date and place if people prefer, and see who can come.
