Ok i brought one of those swede army bags but when it came the leather was crappy and a couple of the straps broke after not much use. I was a bit miffed i got a duffer but all was not lost, the leather was crap but the canvas was perfect and nice and heavyweight with no holes etc. so i set about proccuring a bag with good leather. I got one off the 'bay for 7.99 after long emails with the seller to make sure the leather was perfect and i got a minter through the post a day later. However the canvas appeared a lighter weight and wasnt as nicely put together as my older bag so i swapped everything round and ended up with a nice bag with perfect leather and perfect canvas. Conditioned the leather and was pretty damn good, drew the line at dying it as i spilt leather dye on the toilet the other day and the damn stuff stains porcelain......

that left me with crap leather and a frame and a serviceable canvas bit. I scavenged what i could from the leather for bit and pieces and then took a pair of scissors to the pack and removed all the straps and top flap etc apart (from the long bedrolls ones on the bottom) i then stitched it all up witht he sewing machine and it became a bedroll canvas to strap on the bottom for longer trip to free up internal space for other things like tinnies.......

at the moment it has my tarp, hammock and poncho liner in it with all associated lines etc. There is still space for either a sleeping bag or blankets to go in the hammock depending on the season. Im pretty happy as it fits the colour of the bag and saved waste etc.
result! to be honest it would be worth buying a beater off ebay just for the canvas to do this if you already own one of these bags already!
added plus is it shifts the weight a bit and the belt on the bottom of the frame sits nice in the small of your back - lovely bag proper happy with this one!
