Old hat I know, but its one of the few things ive not got round to doing properly, and I rearly liked making it. Next up tinderbox's, with goodies inside, and larger food containers, I think.

So thanks to Ray Mears for the inspiration :You_Rock_

Nice looking bark too, I find it difficult to find good bark, always seems thin.

Cheers, I used one sheet around 25cm long and rolled it around 3 times as it was thinish but that amount felt nice and solid. It's glued as well which helps.

Thanks folks, i'll probably live in my hobo set up now to replace the shot gun cartridge one I made, for lighting the trangia or wood.

do you use dead or alive bark

Dead.. It's kinder to the tree. Also dead birch bark stays workable for years after the tree comes down.

Aye, the bark I used was from fallen trees. Easyer to remove and does no harm.

There's some birch planned to be removed from a new woodland I'm able to get materials from, I'll try working that for a change. You do get a nice clean look to the inside of new bark, which is the outside of the boxes.
