I've noticed that few BCUK members own these, http://www.strikeforcesupplies.co.uk/index.php?method=stock&id=20124&from=6

I'm thinking about getting one.

The issues I have with my current sleeping set up is that I like to turn WITH my sleeping bag and bivi bag, but my sleeping bag had that shiny material inside which is quite slippery, also my bivi bag and sleeping bag don't clip together.

I have to grab hold of my sleeping bag and bivi bag and hold them really tightly together and pull them round with me which disturbs my sleep, a sleeping bag with a soft cotton lining would suit my needs better.

My sleeping bag doesn't have a shoulder baffle either which can result in cold drafts getting in if I'm not careful.

I'd be interested to know what people think of their US modular sleep system. Likes dislikes, pros and cons.

Thanks

Tom

Well, i love mine! Its possible to button all three parts together so if you turn in the night it will all turn together..
Its possible to drawcord the 'hood' end up so its nice and draft free.
Cons:Its rather heavy and uncompressed its the size of a bungalow.
If you go for one make sure its buy Tennier Industries.Theres some knock-off out there.

Thanks launditch, how about the inner lining, is it cotton or slippery polyester ?

If your around 6' tall make sure you get the 'long' version as the standard can be a bit of a snug fit. There is a thread here somewhere about this issue.

The inner isnt cotton, its the same as the outside of the bags.Im the same size as you and i find it roomy.

I only have one grumble with mine - it's size. That said, it does compress down quite well and I honestly think it's a fair price for a good nights sleep, especially this time of year. The bonus for us hammock dwellers is we can hit the ground if trees are sparse, best of both worlds really.

In terms of it moving with you, I have no problem except maybe losing myself in it when the velcro bivi hood decides to close in on you :)

i have one from that very supplier, prompt delivery and its the genuine article

warm, adaptable, can be poppered together, although if you do the cold can track through, some fleecey patches are going to find their way onto mine

like all systems with a bag in a bag in a bag, can sometimes get twisted, but its normally easy enough to "kick" your way to untangledom

big downside , as others say, is size and weight, no good for backpacking

how i manage mine is to put a termarest inside the bivvy and a karrimat outside, i roll the whole lot up and stuff into the sack (it will go, just!), then i just pull out and unroll, bed made! doing this, there is no compression to be had

im 5'9 and have enough room to put my clothes in bottom of bivvy and still stretch full length

the "hood" can be a pain, although if you leave the zip a little undone, you can fold the hood inside the bag which helps to stop it going over your head, although of raining, having it over your head is a good thing!

its certainly bomb proof, the goretex being double the thickness of the rab storm, defo watertight

i would buy one again, but if intending to backpack would need to get hold of a lighter setup

I think you made a good call. They're rugged, but they're also very heavy and bulky.

the temp ratings on this system, while will meet surviving needs (the official spiel is that they will provide 4 hours sleep at the stated temps), i wouldnt suggest making use of those temps at comfort levels.

ive been to -7c in the complete set (20f) and was snug in my thermal undies...... i personally think you'll top out (comfort wise) with this at -15c (5f) unless you are a rufty tufty US Modular soldier and have full clothes on (as indeed they would).
