Yep, they make tents mate, i had one a long time ago, poor workmanship, had to replace it with a Lichfield.

Possibly Norwegian, I have one similar made by a British Company that was ex-Norwegian army.

It was rotting so I threw it out.
Nice vintage look, though.

Could also be British issue from WWII, they were very similar.

It's a copy of the original british commando 'bergan' from the fifties/sixties. Relum made budget camping kit but the exped quality rucks were made by Brown and Best (BB) or Blacks.......I think.

I picked one of those up last year at a boot sale for £3, mine is identical apart from the grab handle at the top . Sadly ive no idea where or when it came from either !! Comfy though.

it is without a doubt as the other guys said british made copy of the ww2 pack probally ok when new for what it cost but more of a collecters thing now worth not much am afraid but nice all the same to have one:)

Had one of these or similar way back in the Seventies, even then it was a used item me dad found somewhere.

hi, deff a copy of the original commando bergen. they came in 2 types, the more common sand coloured one issued to lrdg and similar on desert ops in north africa, and army commandos coming in to re-occupy europe carrying oodles of kit. the second type was the marine commandos bergen in dark green with a ruberised coating inside to aid waterproofing, this carried on with and without the lining with specialist units throughout post war and into the 1970's. lots of pics available of british troops in malayan conflict and royal marines in borneo as well, also SAS/scouts in same conflicts. i think the belgians kept it on also, but not sure.
i did think about getting one for bushy stuff but not sure i can sanction the weight.

i collect stuff from this era including belt kit similar to yours rappleby, the stuff is very tactile, natural fibres i guess!
anyway, if you use it let us know how you get on.

The Belgian conection is interesting as in the '70s I lived in Belgium and many items of my original hiling kit were liberated from the Belgian army for me by a friend who was serving.....
My bergan was very much like that one and I loved it until it died.....from overwork!

After ww2 alot of hiking packs copied or used excess ww2 frames,material etc.From the front it looks very similar to the packs used by commando's etc but there are differance's ,and the back bare's very little similarities.Probably just a post war hiking sack.
