Here's the best Sourdough bannok recipe I have ever made and eaten. Enjoy!
What biscuits were to the west, bannock was to the north.Bannock was one of the 3 "b's" - bacon, bannock and beans. It is nothing more then a large pan fried biscuit. Here's how a trapper might make his.

1 c. Flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp baking soda
11/2 c sourdough starter
- mix drys
- pour over starter, mix only enough to moisten dry ingr.
- turn out onto a well floured surface and kneed gently 10-15 times to make soft but sticky dough.
- press into a slightly warmed cast iron pan greased bottom and sides with bacon fat or other oil , working a hole in the middle like a giant donut.
-grease the top of the bannock
- let rise for 1 hr. in a warm place ( In the stove with the light on and the door held ajar with a wooden spoon is how I do it )
- bake in preheated oven or over fire ( oven about 400 F 20-25 min )

Roughing it is for those who just don't know any better : )

Be careful of experimenting with recipes to keep the children happy.
The addition of chocolate powder may yield unfortunate visual effects.

I usually try to make mine with diced bacon inside it. Dice bacon, fry until mostly done, mix into batter, proceed. The perfect food for a day hunting; can be eaten quietly with no prep, lots of energy, tastes good.
