Hi,
I dont know about anyone else, but I have certain things that I always like to take with me, that have never let me down.
For me its a 20 yr old raggedy fleece and SAK.
'Taken them up and down hills and mountains all over Europe, used and abused them countless times. Whether its blizzards on the moors or hurriedly fixing electrical gear under pressure, both have an inexplicable mojo for me.
If i ever camp out without them it feels like somethings missing, even though I may have 'better' kit with me. I guess I could afford some top end kit but if its not broke - don't fix it.
Anyone else got kit that has loads of mojo for them? If so, what and why?
(the more unfathomable the better!)
cheers
:)
10 Year old Gerber multi tool. Its been through about 4 pouch replacments and has the odd problem with some of the blades. BUT its great and has travelled round the world with me. Can you beleive i used to take it on planes with me!

My sigg 1L bottle. It's battered and dented, but does the job. They are really built to last.

Battered and torn, scarred up, few bits missing, hanging by a thread, been knocking around since 1978, but still got the mojo.

I've a copper plated billy that I've had since 1988 (year I joined the Army, so it's well travelled) that goes out with me most of the time. I've also got a small kettle that my brother found by a stream in the mid 90s, that nests inside the billy perfectly.
Oh, and I've an Aladdin insulated mug that's been in use since 95. Bought it on R&R from Blacks. There's better insulated mugs out there now, but I like mine. The only time I don't use it is when the kids have misplaced it. Usually turns up in one of the toy boxes.
I think all three must have mojo. They've certainly seen some use. I've tried other things, but I always seem to go back to them.

Just my hat. its a battered, faded, washed, crushed and generally abused US Woodland Boonie, but it keeps off the rain, it keeps off the sun and i don't think i can go anywhere without it.
Purple Karrimor Alpiniste rucsack !
NS
Martinii leuku, have it since 1980 and it is still going strong (in fact it's the most used knife in the kitchen as well)

I had a Gerber multi tool and due to forgetfulness one day, checked on to a Ryan Air flight home, and then remembered it was still on my belt from work. Gave it away to a shop fitter at Dublin Airport, it was either that or bin it :( gutted.
For me it's my Tilly hat I've had for several years.
SAK - whatever else I carry, it's always there - usually in my FAK. (SAK in the FAK?)
Me grandad's axe. It's had 4 new handles and 2 new heads over the years but otherwise it's just as it were when he were a lad.

Gotta be my lucky fishing hat, plain old olive baseball cap bought from Urban Angler in New York, goes everywhere with me
My boots stand up, walk around and kick ass all by themselves. Serious mojo. Or it might be that they need a clean.

Love mine too! But my Viking pendent on a leather necklace, which has protected me from Hordes of Witches and Evil forest Trolls flawlessly ever since I bought it, is the MOJO to end all MOJO!!! :beerchug:

My Sabre 75 and SAK explorer................
58 pattern water bottle, it has been with me for years, and I have taken it to work everyday for the last 10 years, ever since they replaced the drinking water tap with a big blue plastic bottle and "chiller"
I was absolutely gutted when I got back from a trip last summer and realized that I had lost the plastic cup that goes with it. :(

Seva 123. I loved it the day I bought it. I've had it since about 1969 and it has never failed to do anything but work flawlessly. Plus, its a shiny, brass, work of art. I have never took it out of my bag that someone didn't want to pick it up and admire it.
The Atwood Sharktooth makes a great talisman. :)

My BSA Cadet .177, it belonged to my Granfather, my father and now me, its was made in 1947 and can still knock rats and pigeons down with ease.
i have a BSA lightning with all the kit, but the Cadet has such a good feel to it.

Ah, the BSA Cadet, drool, slobber, drool. I thought I was going to inherit one from my wife's uncle, but someone else in the family got it. Curse, stamp foot, cry, wail, moan.
They are not unheard of here in the U.S. but essentially are as rare as chicken lips.
It was in 218 bee caliber, and looked like new. Ironically the guy that got it turned right around and sold it, before I knew about it. Cry all over again.

My msr whisper light petrol stove definatly has mojo
people are always amazed by it. its been round euope with me andstill works a treat:)
I have an old SAK that was a freebie from a company called BUCHER that make alpine lawnmowers. Got it bout 20 years back and it's still going strong.
My Gransfors mini hatchet is one of my fave bits of kit and goes all over with me. But of all my kit it has to be my bison bushcraft knife. After winning a BG bushcrafter at a meet I sold it for help for heroes. The chap I sold it to didn't use it so I asked to buy it back and he agreed as long as I donated the money to H4H.. I did and as well as getting it back H4H got a couple of decent donations to boot. It's here with me in Canada now ...... Happy days

Wierd things.
-The clips and prussick loops that I use to tie stuff down in the canoe and up in the hammock. Retired gear from the rack - real sentimental value.
-Yon black paramo fleece/jacket. Don't think it's left my back in five years or so, it's getting to be like a security blanket.
-Bardsters leather water bottle. Have got so used to it bumping around that I'd miss it if it ever floated away(like my last water bottle did).
I've older and more personal things that I'd hate to lose and things that I've made which are irreplacable but the ones above are the everyday "and we're off..." items.:)
My Tilley hat and my Trangia.
Both are looking their age but they still do the job they did when new.
My Swedish M90 Parka, Love it
I have a Leatherman Wave tool. I've had it for about 5 years and it goes everywhere with me. I use it at work, at home and at play and it never lets me down.
Luke
For me it's my little Highlander forces 33 backpack, it was one of the first things I bought when I started getting my kit together and fits me perfectly, I've since made a lot of and changes and Improvements to my inventory but I'll never let my Highlander go. It has served me very well and I've become quite attached to it.
Also my Fiskars hatchet, it's the best piece of kit I've ever bought and is amazingly versatile.
It really brought it home to me just HOW much easier it is to have the right tool for the job, after I let go of the romantic and fallacious ideal of the "survival knife" that does everything.
The more I use it the more I love it and love using it. Actually I feel like chopping something right now :D

Some of my gear definitely has a funk to it. Don't think it has mojo.
I'm waiting for a poll along the lines of "Does the top-10 of your mojo kit push your buttons?"

I've not been on it long but my pure wool tarten blanket seems to come with me everytime, it's thick and heavy though.
For me its my Aussie leather hat, bought on the World jamboree in 2007 (in chelmsford) and worn as often as i go out for any reason other than work or cycling (i wear a helmet) its seen me thru till now and is going strong and quiet simply if i dont have it on i miss it,
Does mean i need another new rucksack as my nice new little one stands a little too high and catches the back of my hat :( still it was bought for using on the bike... ho hum
My Captain Curry Lockspike pocket knife. Bought by my father in the fifties and all the corners of this all stainless knife worn by his hands. I inherited it a few years a go and it stays with me nearly all the time. Really good quality stainless blade that really holds an edge too.
