Bidding is at £82 already and then there's the final rush of bids to account for....postage is £4.50
You can get these brand new for £96 from Woodlore themselves.....think if I really wanted one I'd rather buy from woodlore for a few quid more than risk this one off ebay....unless it's one of us selling it and then we'd know it was ok :o):

I've been watching it for a few days. I was wondering if we should have bets on it selling for more than a new one :o):
Nothing seperated quicker than a fool and their money.

Oooooh my God, what have I done?! LOL
Too true, if they sell them at Woodlore for £95,- - I would buy it from them (or direct from Wilkonsword).
When I saw it, I immediatelly placed it on the forum - for you knifaholics :rolmao: :nana: - didn't knew what the new price was ...

Thats the most (need a more superlative superlative) ridiculous thing i have ever seen. Someone should email the buyer, tell him he's being ripped off!!

Do I win the bet then, sold for £10 more than a brand new one. You could make quite a profit buying them from woodlore and selling them on ebay. :o):
Bill
no you can't bercause the fees ebay charges amount to the same

I had a mad urge to buy a Dartmoor a few months ago (the urge has passed now thankfully) and I phoned Wilkinson Sword who plesantly advised me that they do not sell direct to the public and only through their distributors.....who do you know there that will sell you one then and do you get a discount? lol  :o):
Seriously, I don't know if I just sounded dodgy on the phone but they wouldn't sell me one!!!!! :yikes: as I said, the urge passed so just as well really as it would have been a waste of money....I seem to have heaps of knives and only two hands!!!! :rolmao:

This was my understanding too that WS won't sell them direct - you got a source there Gary?

Thing is though, the guy has chose to bid this amount without bothering to research the availability of a new one, so if he has been ripped off, it is by himself.
I wouldnt email him though, he is probably feeling well pleased with himself right now for winning it, what right do we have to spoil his fun? Different if it was a fake or something.

The lady did give me the name of their main distributor but as I decided not to buy I can't remember who they were....not a name I'd heard of before.

I was only pulling Jake's leg....you're right, if he wishes to waste his money then that is his business and he's best happy and poor then us tell him things so that he becomes sad and poor....

From the WS site....
"To order your Wilkinson Sword: Woodlore Knife please complete the attached form and post, fax or email to
Wilkinson Sword Ltd." but they charge £95.00 + £10.00 P&P :yikes:
For the Dartmore you have to get it from Heinnie Haynes.

If that's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen, then you must have lived a very sheltered life, old son. Who is being ripped off? Presumably the winning bidder wasn't being forced to bid. Presumably, he'll be getting a decent knife for a few quid more than he might have paid for it. So what? I've done far more stupid things than that!

Bingo.....that's the name of the company they sent me too....
It was only the Dartmoor I asked them about :o):
Caused a bit of a stirr!
I just think that the guy might be relieved to find out, but then i realised he's bound by contract so telling him will only make him feel bad...and don't worry i didn't email him!

Well, i wasn't being entirely serious old son. Just struck me that if someone obviously knows of this knife, and that it is good, then he should also know that it can be bought, new, from a completely safe source; RM.
cheers.

E-Bay becomes daily more ridiculous and I doubt the current series of TV adds are going to help.
In the areas I dabble in (Mil. surplus, radio equipment, outdoor gear, penguins & Landy bits) it's almost totally useless now. You get the odd "diamond", things that just can't be purchased anywhere else, but run-of-the-mill stuff seems almost invariably to go for the same price, or more than from an established retailer. Generally without the same level of service in event of a problem and, I'm sorry to say, with an ever increasing risk of being totally scammed.
E-Bay is one of a very few existing sellers markets that I can think of.
Still use it though.

What beats me is how someone who is searching for Ray Mears on ebay, doesnt think to search on google as well before spending over hundred pounds on a knife. Its not as if his shop is hard to find you know, google for ray and his site is top of the list!

OK, I'll come clean, I SOLD IT. I didn't know it was going to get that much money, I was hoping for around £70. Since I was one of the loons who paid £270 for an Alan Wood, I don't feel too bad, and I have sent it Special Delivery and included a DC3 with it.
As much as I'd love to have stopped the bidding at £70  I couldn't  so I couldn't rip him off, eBay is becoming mad!
I would have sold the DC3 as a Ray mearas sharpening stone
but then I'm trying to be a buisness man

I wouldn't worry about it mate, you just put it up....it's the bidder that bid and if they want to pay that much then it's up to them. Clearly a daft thing to do but hey such is life.
Very generous of you to include a DC3 with it, does the buyer know just how generous that is? ? ? (retorical question).
It's not the seller we're questioning!
