Hello to you all, Its my first time on the forum so please be gentle!
I am doing a couple of days walking and bivi camping with a couple of friends at the end of Oct. I am looking for a good site or sites to bushcamp at mid way between Portsmouth, Hants and Ashford, Kent. Once we have a site we can build our weekend around it. Any suggestions would be welcome (Excluding filthy suggestions, I get enough of them from work clients!!)

Hi Matt
Welcome to the forum.
I'm afraid you've asked the question that is most difficult to answer. Camping access is by permission only in England and all land is owned by someone.
Although some people sneak a stealth camp here and there, it is not something that we can condone here on a public web site and many will frown on such actions as it gets in the way of negotiating legitimate access with landowners.
I hope you get an answer to your question but don't be too surprised or discouraged if you don't. There is lots of knowledge and information to be found here but very few people are in a position to answer that particular question.
like wayland said. but also, what do you want to achive with your bushcamp?
If its somewhere to relax and camp then there are plenty of registered campsites, if its to have open fires then you might find one or two..
are you involved in scouts? if so, thats a great source of sites that you can have fires and relax generally speaking...
You could always try looking at google earth for some woods near you and then go and do a bit of door knocking until you find the landowner.
Don't be surprised if they say no but it's always worth asking, offer to do something for them in return, such as clearing up litter or mending fences etc etc.
good luck

Thanks gents. I should have been a little clearer about what I was looking for. I am aware of the rules concerning wild camping on other peoples property. what I was looking for was any camping sites which specialise in bivi/basha type camping rather than tents and caravans. I have found a couple but was looking for recomendations like Chas Brookes reply. I quite like the door knocking idea though shewie, I might give that a try if we see somewhere of interest. Thanks Gents
If your looking for campsites which are more layed back ie: farms etc. try campfires.co.cc thats the site advertised on the farm where we camp but unfortunately it's in the wrong direction for you. There is none in hampshire because its naff but every county in every direction from it has some listed :D

Thanks for the link to the campsites with fire page, which I have been looking at. One of these may be good for a Susex BCUK meet, which would be nice to see happen.
Someone posted a link to sites that allow fires recently, might be worth doing a thread search.
David, I posted one of lhe links in that thread and this was it...

There were others in the thread too, but that might help finding the right one.
Hi Mattrevolution, you could have a look at Nightwalker's site here:

There's a site that may be just what you are looking for. Check out the rest of his site and the chat room, there's loads of information and resources on there. :)
