View Full Version : gelled alcohol
this stuffs fun. My dad brought me some hand wash stuff back from work. I guess they have it in places other the hospitals. works well if you give cotton wool a nice coating in it. Doesn't seem to catch fire from just a spark but I've only used in bad conditions. Burns hotter and longer then cotton wool would. A bit messy but maybe easier to deal with then meths
Now you can look forward to going into hospital :o):
Is it like that stuff RM sells on his site, you know, wash without soap!
Wouldn't the alcohol evaporate after any significant amount of time?
The stuff on raymears site doesn't say anything about alcohol. This stuff would do the same job but sounds like a lot more fun :o): :o):
not if it was properly stored tomtom, if it's airtight then it can't.

I have a gelled alcohol handwash, it's designed to have no soap, so I can be sterile on my hands etc when I don't wash - soap makes your hands very cold.
Can you use it to sterilise knives for food prep?

I don't see why not... only there's a better way. Put it in the fire for 5 secs, and it will be quite sterile. :biggthump
Would that mess the temper slightly?
You can use it to clean knives etc, but personally I've found the stuff you get from Blacks etc isn't that good for cleaning your hands. You still end up with bits of black gunk smeared all over your hands that you then need to rub off...
No, putting balde in the fore that that short a tiem shouldn't affect it.
The stuff on RM's site is 63% alcohol, I think Gary also sells similar stuff.

Would that mess the temper slightly?
No, for such a short time and don't put it in the hottest part of the fire.
Edit: Just read your post, Jak

Is that Steridex like Bearclaw sells? Good tinder too.
