I just got a delivery from Soldier of Fortune today and my nice new golok machete arrived... blimey it's big!
It's not long, the cutting edge is about 280mm long but it's a seriously hefty bit of kit. The blade is 4.25mm thick and feels like it's built to hack through concrete. My last machete was a little thin and tended to bend if I got a dodgy contact and it developed dinks in the blade fairly easily.
Although a little heavy, I think this is going to be a brilliant tool... well, after a few hundred hours of sharpening that is. :yikes:
In case any amongst you are after a machete that's going to last, SOF still have a few I think (but not many).

I have a bristish army issue one and swear by it....not just for jungle but for a lot of other tasks as well.....however in the UK they have bad press and as I don't want to be done carrying one I use my axe more often now.....shame as I do enjoy using the machette! :o):
I've had one for a few year. Fantastic bit of kit.:biggthump
Just wish I could get a decent sheath for it. Mine is a US sheath that is just that US! Its not at all safe as is doesn't hold the gollock in the sheath at all...:nono:

Mine came with akydex one with straps everywhere and a pocket for a sharpening stone, seems to hold the machete very securely... i'll put some pics up later if i get the chance.

Sorry seemed like a silly question at first... makes more sense now. This getting back to work business is killing me.

I don't think the machete is on their site but if you give them a ring they should have a few left.

I use one of the small army goloks and it's sure done me proud! I find that it's up to any firewood and shelter-building tasks needed on a small camp, is a convenient size and weight, quite literally bombproof and at the 15 quid I got it for, a proper bargain. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially if their looking for low-budget kit!

What quality of steel is the blade made from?
Will it stand up to a few knocks?

The quality of the steel is not the best in the world, but it does the job well. I've noted that mine tends to lose its edge pretty easily, but I find that a heavy tool like that stays functional even when the blade is relatively dull. As for standing up to knocks, it really is a hardy tool. I've been using mine for a good while for every manner of heavy task and it's still in perfect working order.
you can get them at www.actiongear.com, if that is the same one you guys have. after reading you great reveiws, I'm thinking about one myself.

$13.99!! That's less than a tenner in proper money! And for the larger one, too! Go for it, woodrat; you'll not be disappointed, especially not at that price!

just make sure it's a genuine one... the webtex ones aren't as good.
I don't know about edge keeping because i've only just got it... it's built like an out house though.
