Hi, just picked up a magikelly hammock 2nd hand but unused.

When new would it have come with destructions?

I've reviewed carefully a recent PDF on tarp and hammock set up by bushblade however the magikelly hammock has hooks at each end was looking for some advice on the best way to rig it up with the webbing supplied.

Also, the webbing that comes with the hammock is it any good?

Would anyone recomend the Ronnie Sunshine £20.00 pro rig set (below) or an alternative

Thanks in advance

I have a magikelly hammock too - THIS (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=544944#post54 4944) is how I set up mine (however I have added a couple of climbing karabiners to make it easy to take down the hammock during the day if I want as suggested by Rich in the thread ;)

btw £20 seems a little steep for a couple of krabs and some knotted tape

I would say B&Q 25mm 'tape' 10m tis cheaper on the roll £5.99 the the cheapest carabiners from a climbing shop and then find Pablo's instructions on you tube.Basically a double round the tree bow like you do on your shoes.......you haven't got velcro trainers have you? LOL
Works for me

Just take the hooks off and clip some climbing rated crabs onto the black cord which comes out of the hammock. You can pick up crabs from most outdoor places, I bought a Rock Empire quickdraw which is two crabs with a length of webbing attached. The crabs will be the most expesive part of the set probably so maybe the RS set isn't such a bad price.

What about the original hooks on are they useful or just get rid?

Nah, get rid and replace with lightweight crabs instead.

I have a ticket to the moon which is like the jnugle one. It came with hooks and knotted rope which is good for a quick hang at a tea stop but I have also put rings and tape (which is 40mm folded in half and stiched so double thick) but left the hooks on so can still get a quick set up when taking a break on the bike.

PS Decathlon do quick draws which is 2 krabs and the bit of webbing inbetween for less than a tenner.

British Red gives a tutorial on how he hangs his here

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24542

the thread also covers underblankets tarps etc

I came up with an alternative method of hanging mine using the hooks that came with the hammock and posted about it here

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17893

Since then I have gone back to hanging my tarp under my ridgeline so have reverted to hanging my hammock the original way which is similar to the way g4ghb does it.

One thing I would say is I strongly recommend using climbing tape. Cheap webbing will stretch during the night and the knots either slip out or bind fast and will not release. I have yet to ever see webbing used without issue.

Hi, when you did the group buy did you supply webbing or climbing tape as part of the deal?

That's assuming any was bundled in the group buy

Good tutorials btw

There was no webbing or climbing tape as part of the deal. I could buy tape on rolls but it was not much cheaper than people could buy in small quantities so i never bothered doing a group buy on it.
